Brabus is simply a tuner, whereas Alpina is registered as a separate manufacturer.
Even AMG is not the same as Alpina, because they are officially an in-house tuner, not a separate manufacturer (not even with the GT).

The only other equivalent to Alpina is Ruf.
MAAAYbe Bowler, too, but I'm not at all clear on British company law stuff.

At least in Europe, it's that way for every manufacturer. Somewhere in the early 2000s, laws were made to have everyone use water based paint, for environment.
