i did 169 verified by calculations done by rpm and gear ratio/tire diameter when i got home. in a 1990 honda crx with about 400whp. I still had more to go, but i had a vibration that came on pretty quickly and i decided to back out.

Right after i let off i attempted to apply the brakes, which instantly turned into a wooden solid pedal that did nothing to slow the car down. Luckily i was on an abandoned strip of road about 20 miles long and had plenty of runway to slow down.

The latter terrified the living shit out of me. At 110, the Chevelle was rattling softly. At 150 and above, every bump in the road felt like vertebrae fusing.

The Challenger feels like you're going 100 at 145, though. Comfy and very stable.

I owned it for 6 years, and got about 1 speeding ticket per year, which cost about a grand just for the tickets and really fucked my insurance rates. Then I got a letter from my insurance company saying that they wouldn't insure me if I got any more tickets in the next few years (which, shockingly, I haven't). Also, when I sold the Subaru I had already also owned an NA Miata for 4 years, and (this may shock you) the Miata is truly more fun to drive. I also had to pay off dat college. I sold it for 19.5k in late 2013, and when you consider that I got it for 22k at an auction in 2007 that's pretty decent.

If you've never street raced a lot IRL, here's how we did those races (remember, this was in '07-'08 when the street scene was more popular): They were on the crowded Highway 526 in Charleston, SC. We met at the usual Saturday night spot where 100-200 cars showed up every Saturday, split into ricer, clean import & domestic cars, truck, and biker sections (pic related, my old RSX on the left). We then planned the races out and occasionally made bets (I never did). One car would go way ahead of the group and would ensure that no cops were coming from the other direction. Two cars would be in the back when we got to the highway, when it was time to race, they would slow down to ~25 mph side-by-side to block traffic from the rear. If they were filming, one car would occasionally be ahead of those two with the camera. Finally, there were the two cars racing, who would slow down to exactly 30 mph. The car on the left would honk 3 times and both would launch on the third honk.

Good times. I got my ass beaten a lot though because I didn't install any mods until I moved out of South Carolina.
