Is it weird to a normal to be able to recognize basically 99.9% of every car make and model that you see on the road every day? Some girl said I must spend hours everyday researching cars, and I was like "bitch, I ain't even that much into cars, I just remember shit"...
>>
>>14768185
I guess you could try to say its a "guy thing"
>>
>>14768185
Back in the early late 90s I knew all the makes and models, now everything looks the same.
>>
>>14768185
No, it's not weird at all, especially on a car enthusiast board. Other people don't pay attention to that because they just don't give a shit about cars and only know what BMWs look like.
>>
>>14768506
this
If a 90s shitbox drives past me I can name it 9 times out of 10. Now I mistake kias for mercedes because they try to look the same.
>>
>Is it weird to a normal to be able to recognize basically 99.9% of every car make and model that you see on the road every day?
Yes.
>>
>>14768185
I'm fairly well convinced it's a late teenage male thing. Probably something to do with pattern recognition subroutines regarding prey/predator identification. It seems to stop adding new things after about 25 and from that point on you recognize cars that were popular or desirable from when you were younger but newer cars just become a blur.
>>
>>14768649
I guess that explains it. I'm 26
>>
>>14768185
I was in my parents car with my mom driving and we were coming back from the store.
I had spent like the entire week looking up all sorts of different tire brands and variants and shit.

We were driving down a semi dark road and I spotted a merc with Toyo T1R's. I pointed it out excitedly and she was like >wtf you randomly know exactly what tires they are? how m8

I-is that autistic...?
>>
>>14768673
No. That's just the effects of knowledge in a topic brought forth from your research.

I have RHD radar apparently. Saw a MarkII and a Mk4 supra yesterday within about 10 minutes of each other. Saw an FD and a Hilux SURF this morning.

Oh yeah I can relate to this too defo.

Yes absolutely. I can identify 99.9% of performance cars, but if you can identify all the different bland Toyota and shit Nissan, you have the autism.
>>
>>14768779
About the only thing those have in common is that they're red. A 928 and an IROC are not even on the same planet stylistically, let alone the Escort
>>
When I was younger (about 9 or 10), I was on the school bus and a car ran the stop sign that swings out on the bus. The driver went to take a note of it and asked what kind of car it was (pick up truck, car, suv). While the other kids replied with "it was a red SUV", I said "A Nissan Pathfinder!". Then all of the kids made fun of me because I guess I was knowledgeable about makes and models of cars.

I worry for myself sometimes.

Honestly I find myself playing Forza 3 sometimes and the game usually has 3 tire upgrade options. Street/sport/race

Street being a normal street-worthy high performance summer tire I assume, the sport seem to be semi slick directionals of a higher performance level whilst the race is straight up slicks.

What I do is find myself browsing several tire websites and comparing reviews and grip ratings from different brands tires such as Yokohama, Toyo, Bridgestone, Michelin, Pirelli, Kumho, Goodyear, BF Goodrich, Avon, and so on.
I find a good tire with tread that I find visually appealing, and then I look it up to see if it matches the wheel size of the car that I'm modifying, and compare the additional grip levels in the game and how much it improves performance with the stock tire setting and then take the two results and strive to find the most relevant two IRL tires that seem to match.

Then I put put a manufacturer livery thing of the tire brand name on my car to fit the theme of a fictional sponsorship and base the rest of the car's design around it, or just leave it looking clean.

It seems pretty fun sometimes actually.
>>
>>14768185
I could do that by about aged 10. I started with cars pretty early, and could read well by about 5.
>>
>>14768961
Wow dude

I just slap a "Toyo" or a "Bridgestone" decal on there and continue on. Lol

you sure sound autistic
>>
>>14768977
you must have learning difficulties if you're into cars and can't learn to spot a common model like that pretty quickly
>>
>>14768972
I get so immersed in it sometimes that I want to make it the most realistic experience possible, and sometimes I end up doing that for longer than I actually play the game for other parts as well.

For example I'll do a suspension upgrade, all the way to adjustable coilovers. I then search multiple auto part sales websites and forums for spring rate availability and which manufacturer sells parts for the car I'm modifying. I'll take height drop amounts into consideration as well.

For example KW V2's have only adjustable rebound for 16 clicks, so I'll leave the bump setting the game sets for me as it is default, and count out equal values for the rebound (in-game it goes from 1 to 12 in .1 incriments), so I can adjust it accordingly and equally for 16 steps. So for example from 2 to 9.5 on the rebound setting.

It gets annoying when I can't find that.

I think I spent like two hours yesterday trying to figure out what the Cusco limited slip torque ratings were and how quickly they engaged to full lock so I could adjust the sliders accurately.

It also bothers me when you upgrade to a big brake kit and it's considerably larger than stock but the brake distance only reduces by like 5%.

RRREEEEEEEEEEEE fuck I can't take it anymore I'm sweating so hard right now.

>99.9%
yes
>more than normies (even car people)
no

I recognize many cars but there are still some I can't remember the name of because I simply don't care about them enough. Real autism starts when you start with engine codes and stuff like that.
>>
>>14769139
>engine codes

No, it's not hard. It's just part of being an aware human being in the modern world. She's just dumb.

Oh and the one above that is an Accord.
