Hello fellow Subaru owners.
Which ones have you got?
Do you like it? how long have you had it? Where are you situated?

I've got 2010 Impreza 2.5i.

I like the car a lot, but Don't like the interior front panel much.
Got any interior tuning ideas?

>Tfw kind of want to get a Subaru but friend said the head gaskets are known to fail around 60k miles
>Tfw other friend owns two Subarus and always seems to be working on them, and he had picked up a third that didn't run and was in the process of getting another engine swapped into it
>Tfw when I did rallycross a couple years ago, two of the three Subarus that showed up had overheating issues, one of which was down for the count - can't remember if a burst hose or something else

wut, Subarus are known as extremely reliable cars in my country.
Well, except Turbo engines are known for breaking down sometimes..

I love the car but it makes me feel like such a meme it's almost unbearable at times :(

Protip, don't go to subie meetups, it's just a shitload of stis and wrxs with stickers that say fear no evo.

I'm planning on painting the hood scoop the correct color of blue soon. The plastidip was just because I needed a quick fix since the old paint was about 35% peeled off

Head gasket issues are fixed since FA20 (2015). Also allegedly the turbo is more reliable but it hasn't been long enough to tell for real.

SUPER FUN for winter here in canada.

Interior is shit

waaay to loud. it let's all the wind and road sounds in and is fucking annoying.

I will probably get a GLA next unless subaru figures out how to make a silent ride.
>>

>>14749087
Hg issues are on the old 2.5 Sohc engines and have since been worked out. This issue is from the late 90s-to early 00s. And they usually go at about 100k.

The turbo motors are rock solid in stock form. If modified correctly they're still solid. Issue is subarus are very temperamental with their tuning and if you just slap a vent to air bov on it you're going to have issues
>>
2015 wax. has been a piece of shit so far. The engine blew up at about 25k miles, and then now they want me to send it back in because of a starter issue on all cars. fucking shitbox i can't wait for them to fix it so i can sell it.

It can go fast when i need it to and can carry a lot, but the suspension sucks and parts are big and expensive.

Even on the older models with head gasket issues, if you have a functioning sense of smell, you know when they are starting to get flaky. I've replaced the headgasket on my outback LL-Bean already. Just have to find a good mechanic. Engine still runs like a dream at around 330,000 miles, and that fucking car will climb a cliff covered in ice.

I've had to replace the exhaust from salt rust twice, the transmission needed a partial rebuild at around 230,000, been through a couple of fuel pumps, and many other little things, but for 300,000 it's really hard to bitch about a bit of wear and tear.

TL;DR on subarus is: If you live in an area where the two seasons are winter and roadwork, I would highly recommend.

'08 STI here in Canada
Just crossed 176k kms and still going strong.
Recently had the secondary air pump removed because it was throwing codes all day.

Switching to Summers and throwing on rallyarmors this weekend.

No ragrets, although to be honest when i was in the market I really only wanted a WRX.

I'm thinking of a getting a new set of rims, Currently have 2 sets of the gold 18" OEM BBS's.. Looking for opinions if anyone has some nice wheels to share. Don't know what colour to go with, thinking Black, Gunmetal or Copper maybe?
>>
I considered the Subaru Legacy right before I bought a Fusion in 2015. One of the dealbreakers was a lack of factory installed remote start (which is a lifechanging feature when it is integrated with heated steering wheel & heated/cooled seats).

I hear mixed things on the reliability which somewhat concerns me. I'm kind of surprised as Toyota, Honda, and Japan in general are reputed to have more reliable vehicles, and statistics for Toyota and Honda definitely seem to hold true for that but Subaru doesn't.

At least they finally seem to be getting over the cheapness of their interiors.

I don't think there has been a time in my life where I haven't had a subaru nearby.
My entire childhood revolved around the family car since we took so many road trips.
Right before I was born my parents bought an outback fresh off a boat.
Unfortunately it was destroyed and totaled in front of my house at just 9 years... Some drunk shithead.
Insurance company did their work and we ended up getting a Limited Outback Legacy with a multi subwoofer pack and other neat bells and whistles that the old one didn't have.
I remember going out in the snow with that car, first time ever driving.
The sound of a boxer flat four always brings me back to when I was kid.
Fast forward to now. I own a Forester. A pretty nice car but I would honestly rather have an 07 impreza wagon, either that or an H63.0 Limited 2003 legacy anni.

> I over reved my car with shitty mods and it blew the motor. Subarus are such shit.

Literally had to restore it because bodge exhaust, very little maintenance, stupid boost controller, body issues everywhere had lead to it running like arse.

But hey, in the end it was still pretty reasonably priced.

>>14761130
You're correct about the 96-99 EJ25D, but the 00-04 EJ251 also has headgasket issues. They released a revised headgasket in 2004 for both engines that fixes the problem forever. If you see someone that has had to do headgaskets twice, they did something stupid the first time and/or used shitty aftermarket gaskets.

I have a 2015 and it rocks. I highly recommend it.
>>
>>14763345

The interior is still plasticky but it's upgraded plasticky. The fake carbon fiber is a nice touch.

The seats are very huggy and comfier. I think the interior has like an extra inch of space from the previous year. I have the Limited so the little bells and whistles are nice. Unexpected, let's say. The rear anti collision warnings and side mirror warnings are new to me. The electric seat adjustments are nice, the radio is good but the Starlink system is ass. There are three screens of info where in the past it was all just analog stuff.

The motor is the same, the road noise is a little better, I thought I hated the body style but I ended up really liking it. The LED lights are a huge improvement. The flat bottomed steering wheel which I thought I would hate is very very nice. Basically if you know the EJ257 you know the capabilities... it's the same!

Because of previous warranty issues with the car I have no plans to mod the car until it's out of warranty so it is bone stock. Still like it a lot.

Are Subarus the worst car to be a fanboy of? Like having 3 cars for different purposes and they are all from Subaru?

08 outback. Bough it over a year ago. I like how Subaru has a simple fill/drain bolt for transmission and differentials. Easiest v belts I've ever replaced. Haven't done spark plugs though. I like the car, shifts hard but supposedly that is just the nature of the 4eat beast. My mileage is surprising too I get above sticker.

'96 JDM Legacy GT twin turbo. Yes, it's RHD. Of course it's a manual. And yes, it's broken. I love it, though, despite all the things wrong with it, which is why I haven't driven it for a while. I've had it for almost three years now, I think. It's kind of finicky, but lawd jeezus does it rip. It's quicker than I expected the EJ20H to be. I'd like to swap in the 276hp EJ20R, though. I've ripped through the mountains with it, even had it sideways a couple times, and you better believe it's torn up some dirt and snow. She's hibernating at my show right now until I can figure out what all is wrong with it, as well as spend some jewgolds on more JDM aftermarket goodies for it.

I also have an '05 Saab 92x, the "Saabaru". It's just the Linear model, 2.5 N/A, automatic. But it's fully loaded, with every option. My brother drives that, I just bought it for him about a month ago, and he loves it. The engine was freshly, fully rebuilt by the previous owner, so that's a huge plus.

'Bought' (was really cheap) a '98 Impreza wagon a couple of weeks ago.
It's a 1.6 manual with DUAL RANGE NIGGUH, which is about the only feature on the thing.

The poor car has spent all it's life parked on the street and has been crashed into 5 times (while parked), so it has about 5 different shades of faded red now.

But since you can probably guess what that looks like (shit) I fired up S-tuner and this is what I came up with.

I've owned a lot of Subarus throughout the years; 2008 WRX Sedan, ej205 2.5RS coupe, Impreza L sedan with a 20g 2.2L and WRX heads, 2012 STI hatchback.

Right now I have a swapped 2000 2.5RS with an ej257 and td06h-20g turbo and also a 1980 Subaru Brat.

I have a love-hate relationship with them. They're not the best performers in the world but are pretty reliable and do great in poor weather (which I get a lot of). Interiors are generally shitty and always have been compared to other cars at similar price points. Rattling everywhere, thin factory paint, bad factory tunes, and they don't attract the best people out there where I live.

I think I have enjoyed my BRAT most out of all the cars I've owned. It is fun to drive slow, does great offroad, reliable so far, and meet a lot of interesting people and get to hear great stories.

Having owned Subarus exclusively for the last 8 years makes it hard for me to get anything else. The fact that there are a great number of parts that can be shared across different models and even platforms can make maintenance really cheap and easy.

In all they're pretty decent cars but like all manufacturers, they have their own unique problems and quirks.
>>
Anyone have a Hawkeye (or probably any pre-08) WRX and replaced the speakers? They're shit. (Love the car otherwise.)

Pretty much. They've used cheap materials in most of their cars for a long time. The designs were definitely nothing special for a long time. The frame-less windows on the older models, while cool in their own way, didn't help at all with cabin noises. Pretty bad stereo systems as well.

The good thing is that they've always had good seats and driving positions. Subaru's interior is also getting better with every generation (which they kind of have to since everyone else is getting better as well).

>>
>>14779155
The things I do like on my Impreza is that the speedometer is in the middle of the dash, and I like the circular vents. Everything else is meh.

Mine came with an aftermarket Kenwood radio. Kind of annoys me but I guess it's a bit better anyways. If I keep the vehicle, I might go ahead and upgrade the speakers.
>>
>>14779091

The 2.5RS with the ej205 cost me about 6k-7k total. Didn't help that I paid someone to splice the ECU harness for me, just didn't have the time as I was leaving the country for a while and wanted to get it done while I was gone.

The Impreza L sedan I originally got as a parts car. Everything was done but it was running like shit. Stole it for $3000. Better yet all I had to do was replace the spark plugs and mess with boost controller a little bit and it was running great. Ended up using it as a daily driver/beater/'rally car'.

Have about $9500 total invested in the RSTi. The donor car was a wrecked STI that had a new, (5k miles on engine) fully built motor made by a shop in Washington which I got for just under $5k. Donor car was about $2.5k, did the body work and painting myself. Then about another $2k in misc stuff like the Td06h-20g, JDM lights, and window tinting.

I'm almost completely sold, but something is holding me back. I'm probably just used to the interior in my Jag or something... still though, this one I'm looking at for 8900 is clean as fucc. Can anyone comment on them? I know they go like fuck but are they satisfying to drive?

I love my car and have no regrets putting all this effort in to it. Rewards me every time I drive it.

>>
>>14755803

Besides the awesome cornering, the wrx is only a few grand more but I used to have an 06 Sti and I wouldn't settle for a wrx, but I wanted something different. The clutch blows so I had to adjust it and take the spring out, the tranny is notchy and horrible 1-2-3 until it warms up allot even then I get clunks pops all sorts of noises which I guess are normal for this car, but I feel like it's always going to blow up.

1992 SVX 3.3L auto
1996 Impreza GL 1.6L manual
1999 Legacy wagon 2.5L auto
2007 Legacy Spec.B 3.0L manual
2015 XV 2.0L CVT

I recently drove the Levorg. Lovely car, but it is not available in the 2.0L turbo here which is very unfortunate. The 1.6L turbo drives very nice but more power would suit it so well.

I love Subaru's man.

That's what I have now, a 2007.

I like it, and I bought it with 52k miles. It's got 140k on it now. Unfortunately it's been kind of a pain. There was a leak in the headgasket and it cost me a pretty penny to get it fixed.

It makes me look like a raging mom/lesbian in it, but at this point I don't care. I had a 2003 WRX that I drove for a while and loved it. I didn't love the insurance costs or the poor gas mileage, though.

also basic maintenance goes along way even though I've had a check engine light for like a year and I beat the shit out of it (off road it alot, drive it pretty harsh because muh rally) also the things that have gotten haram'd I haven't been able to afford to replace. Need new EGR valve (cleaning it didn't fix it) and all my struts are worn af to the point I occasionally bottom out the suspension on hard turns. I did replace the PCV valve, spark plugs, alternator and front CV axles as well as brake pads and rotors all around.
