Theoretically speaking, if I were to plug in a block heater every time I parked my car at home, would I be reducing the wear on the engine from cold start-ups, even in a warm area?

You'd probably spend more on power than you'd save on engine rebuilds.
>>
>>14741479
yes
>>
Yes. I do it for like 8 months at a time. During the warmer periods it will be a negatable difference so I would just spend more in power than its worth
>>
Also, how safe are block heaters, long-term? Am I gonna burn my car down?

>>14741518
Solar panels, baby.
>>
>>14741539
Very safe unless installed by an amish priest. The area that receives heat is metal and wont burn
>>
>>14741553
Amish people are handy as fuk. Just saying, I'm sure they would install it just fine.
>>
In a warm area no however, keeping it warm in the winter is extremely beneficial
>>
>>14741539
Is fine. I have tractors from the 60s with original heaters and they spend a solid 5-6 months plugged in every year
>>
>>14741479
they are quite safe, so long as you avoid a few simple mistakes during install. make sure you don't have the cord touching the engine, or especially exhaust. don't overtighten into place, clean freeze plug hole well, use good sealant. Get in the habit of checking for coolant leaks as you approach your car. If installed well, you wont see any for years and years, but it doesn't hurt

they are 400 watts.

average kilowatt hour is $0.12

running the block heater for 4 hours before starting the car will run you about $0.50.

That is much more economical than running hella rich on cold starts.

Webastos are fucking nice, but diesel is more expensive than electricity here... still, its good when you don't have access to an outlet or something
