i got all nice new ngk plugs and a fresh starter
what tips does /o/ have to start a diesel in -8c/17.6f and colder?

blast it with piss
block heater
>>14740541
are these helpful because they allow the glow plugs to get hotter faster? i always thought they were more useful for gasoline engines?

Literally wut?
Block heaters jeep the coolant jacket warm. Keeps the block closer to operating temperature and that helps the fuel combust easier

Ether

Block heater helps you spin faster by reducing cold oil resistance, when starting, which helps.
My truck also has a heater on the fuel filter.
Putting sleeves on the fuel lines, blocking wind into the engine bay, and putting insulation between engine and engine bay metal can also help.
Intake air heater coil is GOAT however.

thanks for the suggestions.. this is my first ever diesel and my first vehicle over 10 years old that's not a motorcycle
you named three heaters.. are they all externally powered? i know a block heater is, but i don't know anything about the other two

I'm assuming you own a powerstroke? Just get a block heater and plug it in every night. If you forget just shoot ether (starting fluid) into the intake until it starts. Just don't go crazy with it

i don't know if it's powerstroke? how would i know?

Turn they key so the cluster lights up but the engine doesn't crank, wait for the glowplug light to go out, do it again a couple of times then start the engine.
-8°C is not that bad for a diesel engine.

Ngk plugs? As in spark plugs? Mate diesels have glow plugs no spark plugs, ima call bait on this but for shits and giggles what make and model is it?
by having a cummins
