I own a 2001 JDM celica m/t GTS.
It's awesome. Never had a problem with it. You will love it. Don't get a GT. Don't get an automatic trans.
I'm dubious about getting it as your first car. I had a manual E90 corolla before the celica. I feel that without knowing how an average car handles and performs and hopping straight into a celica I would've had troubles learning to drive in it.

Loves the touge.
