Does anyone have experience with the Infiniti I35? A local small dealer with a good reputation is selling a 2002 model with 120k miles for $3900.
Is it reasonably reliable? Easy to work on? (spark plug, belt, fluid changes etc.)
>>
looking at that engine bay, you gotta separate the intake manifold to reach the far bank spark plugs.

its not overly difficult, but it can be intimidating to newcomers to wrenching

otherwise it looks basically like a V6 Altima set up of similar years. Transverse V6 belts can be difficult sometimes, but that comes with the territory.

If you like it get it, OP. Just a Nissan so it won't be crazy hard to work on.

If you're willing to put up with CL weirdos you might be able to find something newer with fewer miles on the private market.

So basically detach it from the engine and get it out of the way to get to the plugs on that side? I guess that's not so bad. I'm relatively new to working on cars but I think I can manage that much.

I been looking on CL for manual transmission cars. But I ran into this one on a spur of the moment while looking at a Lexus on his lot. Looks very nice and might be willing to settle on an auto trans for it. Then again he is also selling a $1000 Geo Prizm manual that I could learn on and DD until I find the right manual transmission driven car I want.

Here's the exterior. Quick scan of the body revealed no major scratches or dents. Looks well taken care of. Gotta look at the carfax next time I go look. He provides them printed out inside the car for anyone to look.

Final bump with Lexus IS300 I was looking at. It has mileage that's too high for my liking though, 169k miles for 5900 bucks. Ehhh

It's LITERALLY a restyled Nissan Maxima with infiniti slapped on. The I35 is a decent car as were all Maxima's before the 2004 redesign.

I wouldn't say easy to work on though. It is a big DOHC V6 in a transverse FWD layout.

Definitely reliable though. The only downside is 2000-2003 I30's and I35s were automatic only while the Maxima sister car was also available with a 6 speed manual.
>>
>>14723291
I got my i30 at around 200kish miles about a year and a half ago, its about to break 30k right now. From my experience, watch out for the power steering getting stiff when parallel parking and thats about it. Mine is extremely reliable, even after my
boiracer tier abuse of it. They're not good on gas, but they are very comfy.
>>
>>14724179
I wish my i30 came with a manual, I was about to spend an arm and a leg on a manual swap until I realized how retarded that would be
>>
>>14724142
Get the lexus dude.

>more reliable
>easier to work on
>rwd
>isn't a maxima
>>
>>14724217
>i30 came with a manual
it did, it was an extremely fucking rare option.

>>14723382
>>14723441
Don't do it kid, too much shit breaks.
sauce: same gen maxima owner
get the IS300
>>
>>14724142
They're asking WAY too much for it. It's a $3700-4000 car.
>>
>>14724244
From what I've read it was mainly overseas that the i30 got a manual, although it was called the 'nissan cefiro'

The I30 did indeed get a 5 speed manual option in America from 1995-1999. The 2000 redesign made the I30 auto only.
>>
>>14724310
So, in theory, if I could find a manual i30, doing a manual swap on my i30 would be less daunting

That's what I think I'll do. Yet, not this one after the Autocheck I got from VIN bro.

>>14724245

Same thought here, Lexus cars tend to get overpriced though thanks to the reliability rep. I also don't like the Autocheck, sure no accidents but 3 owners and it's from Ohio. I'd have to look under it for rust.

Here is some of the interior damage of the Lexus. Also automatic locks for the driver side don't work.
>>
>>14724336
>From the rust belt
Fuck, that's a $3000 car then.
Where are you, OP? I've seen IS300's listed for $4000 by small dealerships on Craigslist down here in Florida.
>>
>>14724334
it would be easier to use a manual Nissan Maxima parts car of the same year. The center consolde of 2000-2003 manual transmission Maxima's does work in the 2000-2003 I30/I35
3.0L cars got the 5 speed.
3.5L cars got the 6 speed.
>>
>>14724334

I30 and 95-99 maxima are the same fucking car lol. If you want to swap in a 5spd, just find a maxima parts car. Literally the same exact parts. Unless your i30 is in great shape it would be better to just find a nice maxima and have literally the same experience.

The only differences are styling, like bumpers, lights, shit tier bose speakers, etc.
>>
>>14724372
>>14724354
Fair enough, I'll jus get rid of the damn thing because i'm sick of automatic

I saw that the power steering pressure hose was a common problem, also the crank position sensors. It was also part of the air bag explosion hurt face recall. I'd need to get the VIN checked for service records on the recalls it had.

I see mixed reviews of these cars at 100k+ miles. I can sort of tell who the idiots are that don't know shit and take it to a mechanic who over charges them and tells them to replace things like cat converters that might not even be part of the problem. Common parts replaced are brake calipers, cat converters, mufflers, motor mounts, and typical stuff like alternators, starters, coils, and so on.
From people who know what they're doing it seems like the car is just like any other in terms of maintenance needs, and it has lots of horsepower for things like overtakes.

>>14724348

Yeah not bothering with this IS300 really. I live in central FL and I can't seem to find a decent IS300 on CL but then again I was looking for a manual.
I bet if I set it to include automagics I might see what you see so I'll go check now.

I was also looking at the Geo Prizm he had. 1000 bucks for a Corolla clone to learn manual in and DD and then later get a car I really want. Any thoughts on that?

>I was also looking at the Geo Prizm he had. 1000 bucks for a Corolla clone to learn manual in and DD and then later get a car I really want. Any thoughts on that?
Do it. A friend of mine bought a manual Geo Prizm for that reason and she's never been happier.
>>
>>14724431
>I was only looking for manuals
Well no wonder, there aren't any that aren't overpriced trash.
If you really want a manual IS300 you'll have to buy a good auto then do a manual swap.
May as well put an LSD in there, too.
>>
>>14724446

Oh boy, I'm gonna go take a closer look at it. Supposedly it's in good mechanical condition and it was driven on the interstate regularly. Also has cold A/C. Gonna have fun learning manual in local parking lots at 2am hopefully.

>>14724447

Yeah I might have to. I only found one in Miami in questionable condition and priced at almost 8k. Goddamn it America.
