How does subaru's awd system stack up to traditional 4x4? I have grandparents with a ranch that i'd like to drive through, and was thinking of getting a 4 wheel drive suv or subaru outback or crosstrek
it's a meme buzzword
It's fine, but don't expect to rock crawl with a Subaru.

I'd mostly be going through grass and mud

AWD isn't meant for offroading.
>>14712303
Then it'd be more than adequate
>>14712335
he's probably going to get stuck in mud
OP it depends on how much tread is on your tires. AWD isn't going to regulate slip like a locked center and rear will.

bad meme

Subaru's AWD is pretty god-tier, being mechanical instead of electronically controlled. Get one where you can turn TCS off and you'll get through a lot of shit. However, if you're off the beaten path, you'll probably want the ground clearance of a truck.

Since when is a VLSD center, with open front and rears god tier? The only cheaper way you can possibly do AWD is with an open center.
You are a dumbass.
Subaru's AWD is great for road use, but off road it's really more a question of tires than drivetrain.
OH BOY.
SUBARU AWD SHITPOST THREAD!
WRX/Sti awd - God tier. LSD everywhere
Older manual subaru - Highest tier. 50/50 front/rear, maybe rear LSD, front open
Newer manual subaru - High tier. Maybe 50/50 front/rear.
Autotragic subaru - Norm tier. Probably 80/20 to 55/45.
Other oem's sometimes-on Awd - Why bother tier.
But really.. get good tires.

Uhh.. audi?

It makes no difference unless you're comparing something with lockers to something without.
What matters more is stuff like clearance and tyres
>>14715387
also God tier

lada niva
pinzgauer
willys jeep
kubelwagen
aec matador
suzuki samurai
haflinger 700ap

Fourth generation toyota hilux
all of the above suck off road and should be avoided at all cost
