Cobalt SS, huge aftermarket, fairly reliable, has been a couple of cases of fried piston rings but other than that there good for around 400-450hp on stock internals

Yeah the SS is a good choice. Also a dodge neon if you are lucky enough to find one that got converted to an automatic.
But honestly I think if all manuals came with a shiftier light more people would adept to it more easily.

Hey man maintenance isn't that bad. OBD2 readers are dirt cheap now, and post GM takeover saabs aren't that bad to find parts for.
