I want to get a cheap manual trans to learn in and I've always had a soft spot for 80s and 90s Japanese cars with pop up headlights.

Found this for 1800. Think it's worth a look?

I wouldn't trust fuck all from that area of the state

It's loaded with greaseball white trash and minorities
>>
>>14670025
Don't buy anything that could be even misinterpreted as sporty, it'll be too trashed for you to properly learn in. Buy a super cheap no-fun shitbox to learn in, keep it in decent shape and turn it when you get the real car you want.

What's your point?
>>

Not worth the price eh? Honestly it's the cheapest 1980s Celica that looks like it's in solid shape in this area.
Though it being listed 4 times over isn't a good sign I wager.

https://orlando.craigslist.org/search/cta?query=celica&auto_transmission=1
Don't know if you can see the same search results I can.

This one is a $550 beat up one.
https://orlando.craigslist.org/cto/5495106994.html
A real fixer upper. Though I hear finding parts for this gen is hard. The harnesses for each model ST/GT/ GT-S/ All-Trac were different and such.
>>
>>14670025
dooood is that an st165???? it cant be
>>

dunno

if its as nice as it looks maybe Id try to talk them down to $1500 at least

>>14670122
but you can tell its a ST162 by looking at it
>>
>>14670106
You can already tell it was own by an adult who doesn't use the internet that often

But these basic wagons are unicorn rare and very reliable and easy to tell if it has a problem

Great cars, that's got the 3SGE so I'd bet unless it's had a rebuild it burns oil like fuck. I've got one with just over 100k and I have to top it off practically every time I drive it. The oil rings like to go around 90k miles, but compression rings are good until the end of time.
>>
>>14670025 >>14670144
'Nother thing, those transmission are great, but if you work the synchros to hard, they give out spectacularly. I tracked mine and lost second, ended up swapping in a '95 tranny from a JDM Beams Celica.

I've currently got a 1992 Dodge Spirit that likes to eat oil. I like it as a DD but it's auto and transmission problems are rearing it's ugly head. It was a freebie from a nice old feller so I'm glad I have it at all.
I want to move on to manual and was thinking a cheap old Corolla or Celica would be nice.

Maybe a 1980s is a bit too far back.
>>
>>14670173
The oil problem is in all small cars not geared for highway use

https://orlando.craigslist.org/cto/5461217899.html

I will just buy this truck as a fun piece
>>
Cavaliers are always the awesome and mint condition besides the paint peeling problem they all have

>>
>>14670173
Celicas are great cars, I am a huge fan of the 4th generation (same you've linked), but they are not for the faint of heart. They are old and even if maintained right are difficult to find parts for and have simple things fail. I've gone through basically every system in one form or another.

Bullshit
This doesn't burn any oil and has seen mostly highway use
>>
>>14670206
V6 or a I4? It's not really bullshit, you can always check the dipstick at 3,000 miles or so
>>
I'm in the same position as you are OP. I drove a manual F-150 for 8 months but that was a few years back, and it wasn't exactly a smooth shifter or anything. I've gotten a bit rusty over time.
Going to look at an 86 MR2 tomorrow. I've been looking for late-80s Celicas and Preludes but nothing's come up in the last month and I'm sick of walking. Rage your dream.
>>
>>14670228
>late-80s Celicas and Preludes
>Less power than a Cavalier
>Shittier than a Cavalier
>More expensive than two Cavaliers

>smooth shift

I think it was the driver who was still a bit new to driving stick
>>
>>14670194

I didn't rule out something like a Cavalier as an option. That one looks really clean too. Would have liked a shot of the engine bay though.
Think the a/c really is functional? Even though I'm no stranger to not having air conditioning. (my last two DDs had/have no functioning air conditioning)

>>14670202
Not sure I'm up for a car with hard to find parts as a common issue. Not scared of small issues though. I've resolved to be a DIY guy to a certain extent. Though things like head gaskets and oil rings are still something I haven't dared to go to.

btw check this one out

1.6 I4. I do check the stick regularly and never need to add oil
>>
>>14670307
>Would have liked a shot of the engine bay though

Simple I4's like the rest of them and you could easily the owner to take you on the highway. I mean these cars don't sell so well in the used market because they are Cavaliers

I mean you are no rush in buying a car
>>
>>14670272
>less power
Hardly. And its power counts a lot more considering it's not hauling as much pigfat
>more expensive
Fucking where? Not here, that's for sure. They're all the same price if you want one that's driveable

And I mean it was a rough thing. Rusted out old 1982 farm beater loaded with issues that clunked into place with every gear even when my dad drove it.
>>
>>14670307
daytona link: not the 3sge, could be the fe or 4s, slow as all dick but reliable.
ocala: I would buy this, 22re reliability and parts are cheap and easy as fuck to get. also rwd
tampa: ack, no verts for me. probably the epitome of the Celica mechanically, but they are slower than the previous generations and are boring as fuck. To each their own.
>>
>>14670316
Korean? Top it off and report back after 3-4,000 miles of extensive highway use

Toyota.
It doesn't burn oil moron.

>>14670339

Corolla gearboxes are very short like 3.722
>>
>>14670414

NONE of my many Toyotas burned oil
>>

Daytona: Reliable is good but I did want something not too anemic and slow.

Ocala: RWD? Didn't know that, very nice. And parts are readily available? Also great.
>114hp + 140ft/lb
>EFI + timing chain
Not bad, how much do these guys weigh?

Tampa: I know but it looks so nice and clean, the interior looks pretty good too. Not a vert fan either just liked how it looked.

My 2005 Camry 2AZ-FE has the leaky valve stem seals, burns oil slowly and it's obvious from the morning start ups being greeted with a poof a blue smoke from the tail.

Second this
>>
>>14670469

>a poof a
"a poof of" I mean

>>14670052
>>14670476

Probably really good advice. Which is why I was thinking something like a Cavalier is a good idea. Also cheap as fuck parts and they're everywhere.
>>
>>14670469
>2005 Camry 2AZ-FE

It's because the small motors are not meant for short gearing in the highway

Prius is superior for the highway because of the cvt and slippery body
>>
>>14670469
I'd say they are in the ball park of 2500lbs, at least for the notch back. I would buy that if I was in Florida and daily it. Can't find any good 3rd gen celicas on the west coast that aren't beat to fuck.
>>
>>14670509
Fuck the fuck off moron.
>>
>>14670521
Corollas are at 2500 to 3000rpm at highway speeds
>>
>>14670539
So? My miata is 4000rpm at 70mph
So it must burn oil too right?
>>
>>14670518

Man I wonder why it hasn't sold already if you'd jump on it that readily.

Though in this area, you could get an NA Miata for that much.
>>
>>14670549
Yeah of course? The miata is known for it as well? You can see it all over clubroadster and miataturbo

Funny thing is that the Prius has 1,000-2,500rpm at those speeds depending on grade
