I have a 1990 Kawasaki ZX-1100-C1 which (when originally tested) seemed to post a record 176mph...which made her the quickest/fasted production motorcycle one could buy, for 5 yrs running...until the Honda CBR-1100-RR 'Blackbird' hit the open-market.

I drive my Kawasaki at 65mph everywhere I go.

Why drive so 'slow' compared to everyone else ? No...NOT to '**** everyone off'...but simply because I have NO NEED to drive any faster.

It was (and continues to be) the absolute BEST possible bargain I could get, for the money I had in my pocket at the time. Also ? because at 65mph my Kawi returns no less than 85mpg, which is a hell of a bargain, considering it only takes @ $4.00 to top-off the tank.

And no, it's NOT 'only' designed to 'go fast'; that is simply what YOUR immature-brain is able to come up with, because ALL you know how to do (out on the open-road) is 'go fast'.

Hi! Since this seems to be your first post, I invite you to stop by the "New Users" section so you can introduce yourself to the forums.

Now back on topic.
You see, when an object spins (like your wheels!) and it's not perfectly balanced, every imperfection, asymmetry, dent or defect will exert a radial force that grows in magnitude a lot the faster the object spins.
Few ounces of imbalance can become pounds given enough rotation speed and these forces cause the object to oscillate.

Now, when you drive your wheels can spin quite fast and, depending on the amount of damage or imbalance, they can start to oscillate a lot.
This oscillation travels back through the whole steering system, where it eventually arrives to your steering wheel, making it vibrate in your hands.

Thankfully there is a solution to this, it's called a balancing machine.
Basically, it works by centering a wheel on a metal hub and spinning it, then sensors attached to the spinning hib pick up the forces that try to make the wheel oscillate and calculate the amount (in oz. or grams) of imbalance your wheel has.
The result is a number on a screen and a marked location on the wheel, the number represents the amount of material to add to the wheel in order to restore it's balance, while the indication is needed to know exactly where to put that material (you can't just out weights in random spots or you will decrease the balance even more!).
The only thing left to do is to apply the corresponding weights to the right spots on the wheel and you are good to go!
Your wheels will now no longer vibrate.

Alignment has nothing to do with wheel vibration, it may cause uneven tire wear, strange steering responses when hitting bumps and, of course, a not straight steering wheel, but vibrations come from somewhere else.

turned out one of the double wishbones had rocked loose and was letting all sorts of dirt in and over time they grinded together

luckily bmgguy3 had a how to on here, i had a search but turned up nothing

if it helps you can get the parts from ebay and have the shop fit them for you

First time on this part of 4chan. I'm interested in knowing the pro's and con's of Honda Civic's or Accord's verses Subaru's. I'm in the market for around a 2009-2011 vehicle with preferably below 100K miles. I currently own a 2003 Honda Civic with 280K miles. I think it's seen it's day but still runs well despite a recent major repair of a new radiator and AC system. As for Subaru's.. I wouldn't mind a smaller SUV but am open to a smaller more fuel efficient car. One thing I like is I hear most Subaru's are all wheel drive. Is this true? Input would be appreciated. Thanks.

All Subaru's are AWD, hence they get worse gas mileage than Hondas, but it's not that different.

From what I've read, Subaru's last just as long as Toyota and Honda, but they might require a bit more maintenance. Nothing to worry about though, consumer reports just ranked them up there as equal with Honda and Toyota for reliability.

I've also found that parts can be a bit more expensive on Subarus because they aren't as common. Depending on a lot of other factors, this might or might not cause insurance to be a bit more as well.

The other negative about Subaru is that their interiors are a little bland, but if you're like me, I don't really care about that.

But overall, they get better rankings for safety.
Personally, I would rather drive a Subaru than a Honda because Subaru's are more unique and you hardly see them (at least where I live).

Under normal driving conditions, the ratio is 90%-10% with the 90% going to the front wheels.

As the vehicle detects slip, the ratio can be increased to as much as 50%-50%.

There is a solenoid in the rear of the trans that operates this. This is how they used to operate. Not up to date enough to know if they still operate this way.

Not sure about the newer ones, but the older cars had a place you could install a fuse under the hood that would "turn off" the awd feature. You did this if you had a flat so you wouldn't do damage to the trans with the different size wheel.

I've owned both brands. The Honda was an excellent car with a 5-speed. Nothing ever went wrong unless it was a wear item, or I abused it.

When I purchased my Subaru, it already had a ton of miles, had been wrecked at some point in time, and obviously neglected. I replaced some typical stuff like axles, battery and timing belt, with minimal problems otherwise. It's never failed to start, and has never left me stranded. I have a hunch the Subaru would have been close to the Honda in reliability if maintenance had been equal.

I work in a repair shop, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend either brand based on reliability. Personally, I wouldn't buy a V-6 Honda, but there are much worse cars out there.

I think my clutch needs replacing, I want to do the job myself and I want it to be cheap.
Budget is $300, I only have a scissor jack, a cordless drill and I need it done in an afternoon.
I am used to replace bulbs myself so I think changing the clutch won't be a problem for me.
Is this feasible?

How do I add more power to my car? I heard that changing your exhaust so it gets louder can greatly improve performance, also installing hood vents can help cool the engine and making it more powerful somehow.
