How would one go about acquiring a mail truck?
Auction? are they legal to own for private use?
Would mostly use it a get around vehicle on a large farm.

Auction and you have to remove all the CP markings, like other governmental vehicles.
Canada Post is replacing when with Transit Connects. The USPS is still deciding what to do with theirs. I assume a lot of these things are going to be sold off: you'd probably want to buy at least two to have spares.
>tfw it's the same guy that's upsessed with mail trucks posting over and over again.

not op but I have always wanted to get a postal truck mainly for that aluminum body and just having a bulletproof work truck

I think the usps ones are based off s10's or something, most of the drivetrain _should_ be interchangeable
>>14656423
shortened s10 chasis with Iron duke engine under a body built by grumman

I have a mighty need for this little mail truck.
All it needs is a 383 SBC and a 5 speed manual transmission.
Reworking the suspension for touge would be the tits.
I've seen a few 70's mail trucks like pic on craigslist, but no newer ones. I think you'd be extremely hard pressed to find a grumman llv. Maybe just wait 20 years for them to commission new trucks and snag all the old ones.
I seem to remember that all grummans in the US have to be destroyed at the end of their usable life and can't be sold off like the old jeeps.

But why would they want that?
just get a geo tracker
you can even sawzall the back off and build a flatbed on it and have all the utility of a really expensive side by side without the yuppie price tag

They work for the courier. The mail man.
It is an S-10 chassis with a shitty "long life" engine, under that body.
you can get one for like 3500 bucks
>they are based on the old s10 chassis from what i remember

why not use a quad?
>>14655963
Get a surplus HMMWV from the US govenrment.
they eat diesel, kerosene and jet fuel.
can not get stuck unless you really try.
lots of space for stuff
simple and durable enough.

are you fuckers thinking
what I'm thinking?

They also get 2 miles to the gallon and give you an incredible amount of Douchebag Points™.
>>14659130
doesn't matter for an offroad use only farm truck.
any farmer worth a damn has his own tank of diesel on the farm.

Wait til it comes to maintenance on those things. Fuck. No.
how expensive will they be when the usps decides to replace them? 2500-5000? I really want to get one eventually

Isn't the LLV motor just the old 2.5L Iron Duke GM stuck in everything back in the day?

cant you read that has been said several times already in this thread.
