I'll start with a question.
I purchased a new car a few days ago and don't know diddle fuck about polishing or waxing. It's black which shows dirt anyhow, but what really drives me crazy are the tiny swirl scratches when the light catches it just right. What do I need to buy and how do I use it to remove these scratches?

Washing a car is not hard. Why everyone is using so many product?

My black car looks perfectly deep mirror shiny every time. Deep like a blood at night.
And I never use any stupid €200 of "product" every time to make a wash of the car.

How I make the washing:
I wash dirt off with a normal yellow sponge, water and some dish cleaning soap and bucket.
Then I clean wheels with half of old broom and remaining water.
Then I rinse off everything with hose.
For last step, I wipe the extra water from body and glass with skin of deer or child cow.
I use yellow duster for polish the chrome.

To shine tyres, I use paint brush apply 30:70 dish washing and soap water. Becomes shiny when dry.

Thats it. It looks shiny like any show car.

Takes only 30 minutes and not fast working.

Maybe I apply wax later. I still having Meguairs Gold class with W210 on bottle.
I buy in 2004. AHAHA. Still many left of it to use.

I using yellow duster for applicating this
Nothing special. No micropenis fiber cloths.

Wax only cover up the sun swirlings.

You need polish to get rid of sun swirling, because it is a defect in the lacquer of paint.
You can make damage easily if you do not knowing how to make use of a polish. Especially when using with a motor power and hair of the sheeps.

Generally using a power washer is considered bad as the high pressure pushes dirt into the paint causing more scratches. You said you paint is shit though so you probably don't care about miniscule scratches, but just for future reference.

First I gently wash with a combination of Mr. Bubble and a teasy hint of Joy then I hand dry with a chamois made from the hides of the Andelusian yak.
I make my wax from the finest hand selected carnoobs then I age it for 7 years in oak casks then gently apply in a circular motion with a hypoallergenic sponge lightly moistened with Evian.
I then hand buff it with mitts made from matching chinchilla hides.

the products work pretty well, but the service is way overpriced.
Some shops charge upwards of $1000 per application.
You can buy a bottle and put it on yourself for like $50, it's not hard to do. Just have to cure it properly.
I've seen it last up to 2 years

>cleaner wax
what, wax doesn't clean. I assume you mean that shitty car soap with "wax" in it
>1 coat polish
you're not supposed to coat the car in polish, it's an abrasive. and if you're just putting it on and taking it off by hand it doesn't really do anything, most polishes these days need a machine to work best.
>carnuba sealer
carnauba is not a sealant, it's a type of wax that is found in leaves of a plant.
A layer of carnauba wax only lasts about a couple weeks, a synthetic sealant lasts months.

I'll share with you then, You can find alot of info @ www.autogeekonline.net/forum/how-articles/
I couldnt possibly type all the info and knowledge base from there.

For starters you will pretty much need:
decent car wash soap - not cheap shit from a parts store. Read about the two bucket system. Maybe invest in a soap cannon.
No foam sponges. ever. Research this. All they do is drag dirt along your paint.
Claybar or clay pad or glove. Maybe ironx.
A dual action polisher- I use a porter cable
Selection of pads of varying harshness - I like lake country.

Then the compounds glazes sealers and waxes...

There are alot of paint correction/protection systems out there that vary in price. I personally prefer the blackfire system for black cars, when done properly it gives the dripping wet look. Sure other compounds will do the same and they may be cheaper but I do not have the time or money to try every brand out there. Meguires has a 105/205 system. I would say that is the recommended compound combo for beginners. Search and See if you like its results. I did not like how the compounds dried too quickly while I was working with them. So I tried other systems and found others i liked. Search the forums for the most preferred sealers and waxes.

Example: Menzerna power lock is a very high quality sealer that will last for at least 5 months and a bottle will last you for years. maybe 30$.

Then theres pad selection. again research.

I went out this morning and spent $60 on automotive care supplies. I got a microfiber wash mitt, a 30 pack of microfiber towels, Meguiar's washing soap, polish and liquid wax. I spent about 3 hours cleaning the car up, polishing and applying the wax. It looked a lot better than before but the swirl scratches are still somewhat visible. I was polishing by hand though and started getting worn out so I may just have to keep at it this weekend. I was glad to spend all that time giving the paint the care it needs even though I drove it to work this evening and it got rained on. It's absolutely filthy, so I went back by walmart for some quick detailing spray.

Also holy shit. I don't know if the car sat in a shop where painting was being done or if someone just drove nearby a painting project, but I noticed that the entirety of the car is speckled with tiny white flecks. They're not visible on the black paint until you get within a couple feet of it and seem to come off for the most part with a few firm swipes of a microfiber towel, but god damn that shit is annoying. I feel like I'll never get them all off.
>>
>>14651107
that power washer thing is a myth. they are perfectly safe to use on any sort of car.

Get a machine buffer and utilize compound. You may be able to get that overspray off.

It'll help with the swirl marks too.

Only plebs hand polish their cars m8.
>>
>>14653939
I was eyeing the buffers they had but just couldn't bring myself to buy one today. After spending all that time trying to do it by hand I am much more apt to spend the money on one.

One more thing maybe someone will know about. The car is a Mustang GT and it looks like the previous owner either plasti-dipped or replaced the chrome 5.0 badges on the fenders with black ones. It looks like he used something really harsh to 'clean' the patch where the badge is stuck on and whatever it was left a rainbow swirl effect in the clear coat. Try as I might, I couldn't make a difference on it. Any ideas?
>>
How about PTFE products like Soft99 Fusso 12? Is it any good?
>>
>>14651553

It'll never look or feel as good as a fresh wax (feels rough from what I hear).
>>
>>14652168

not the guy who're responding to, but cleaner wax is a real thing, it's just a carnauba blend with very light microabraisives that kinda clean the paint a bit as you buff them off. I think they're shitty compared to just doing a normal cleaner polish and a dedicated wax though. I felt like using cleaner wax on a newish car left the finish a little duller.
>>
>>14653877
I kind of know that feel on the second part
Neighbors have bonfires like every fucking night all summer
>wake up every morning
>car covered in fucking ash specks
>call town multiple times to complain, since it's against the law to have a fire without a pit
>there's doesn't
>still they do fucking nothing

I've been tempted to go over there some day and bury a few aerosol cans or something under their fire-spot but I'm not that much of an asshole.. and it would probably make even more of a mess of my car
>>
So last month I did the whole thing, wash, clay, compound, swirl remover, wax.

I'm using quick detailer here and there which is holding up fine, but when should I actually give her an actual wash?

And what steps? Wash, then what? Do I have to wax after every time I wash? I thought you only needed to wax 2-4 times a year...
>>
>>14647440

I don't use a quick detailer if I haven't washed it already, it can cause light scratches from the dirt you collect while you drive around. I know it's a pain in the ass to wash every week, but the light scratches add up over time and become more noticeable on a dark car.

Steps should generally be wash wheels/tires first with separate bucket, wash body top to bottom, dry thoroughly, wax if you need to, then quick detailer. As long as you're using car wash that doesn't strip wax, then yes you should only have wax a few times a year, i'd say once a month at most.
