As a weight to energy ratio, gasoline engines are better than batteries by a mile and the ability to fill up at gas stations is great, too.

I'd say it's one of BMW's modern air cooled motorcycle engines, which one exactly i'm not sure.

Could be out of one of the R1200 or 1150's.

It's a pretty good engine for that application, a lot of them are fitted with reduction gearboxes for use in microlight aircraft. It's not particularly heavy, simple and reliable and, most importantly for aircraft, it's the right kind of shape - it pretty much disappears within the outline of a small plane or that hoverbike

It's pretty much perfect for such applications, it's well balanced, simple, reliable, extremely torquey and compact.

Also if you plan on putting a motor in the air, this really isn't the place to ask, do the rounds on ultralight and other kit aircraft forums.
