Who /unreasonably averse to car payments/ here?

I drive a beater. It sucks. I have a good career making respectable money. My mortgage is low.

But $400+ a month for 5 years, even for a fun but reasonable daily driver is just abhorrent to me.

Anyone else allergic to that for reasons other than fiscal responsibility? just preferring the turd in hand to the fun comfy car in the bush?

I have the same problem.
Just seems like such a waste of money for any of these new comfy cars.

Anything worth having new is in a price range that is $400 - 500/mo - and that's before higher insurance rates.

I have two beaters, a winter and summer.
Paying wayyy less than a new car and I have just as much fun. This includes repair costs (plus I buy them broken usually)
>>
I feel the same, for me it's paying a price for something expensive that loses money every year. A new car loses a £1000 the minute you drive it off the forecourt, you never get that back. At least with a house it's value shouldn't go down so much.

>5 years
Car sales in America are fucking stupid. Long contract, high prices, shit cars, high interest rates.
>>
>>14626363
Me too. Somewhat respectable job earning $75k or so per year, still drive a $900 car... I honestly think this might be the reason I can never get a date because I live on my own and generally have my shit together for the most part.
>>
>>14627685
>and that's before higher insurance rates.
Don't forget another 350-700 a year just to title the damn thing.

>>14627894
Please, do tell us how cheep cars where you live are.
>>
i've never financed a vehicle and i never will.. i just don't fucking get it
>>
bought a £500 japanese car and it does everything i need it to do
>>

>high interest rates.
What? If you have good credit interest is well below the rate of inflation if not 0.

I make around 110k. Drive a 15 year old saab as a daily driver. I put about 40k miles a year on a car, so if I drive anything that isn't at the bottom of its depreciation curve I feel like I'm throwing away money. Driving, and buying, an older car really only works if you know cars though. If I didn't know what to look for, I could have ended up with a very problematic vehicle.

My wife does drive a much newer car though.
>>
I took out a 3k loan to buy the car I wanted. Pay $100 bucks a month.
>>
>>14627737
That has always bothered me too.

>paying a $6,000 premium just to be the guy who drives it off the lot

If youve got a stable, well paying job, go for it. I just paid off my 5 year loan recently and I do admit it feels good. But I make enough that $300 a month was nothing, the only annoying thing about it was remembering to pay it every month. Life is too short to drive a shitbox forever. And im not a yolofag, but this is /o/, an auto enthusiast board. So grab your fuckin nuts and act like it.

I might consider it if someone besides ferd or VAG made a medium fast, manuel, hatch/wagon that isn't FWD. Unfortunately there's no WRX hatch anymore, and the Levorg isn't sold here, is CVT only, and has 300hp, not 268.

>>
>>14626363
You could always just pay most of it in cash and get a smaller loan

i recently bought a fun little hatch for 11k put 8 down and i only pay 100 a month

>mythical AWD 300+hp MS3 doesn't exist

>>14626363
So save up for something nice and buy it outright. Shitbox and car loan are not your only two options. I did the car loan dance once. Never again.

Focus RS. Only $38k starting and the dealers are only doing $10k+ markups so they're presaling for ONLY around $50k
>>
I'll never buy a new car. I'd have to be making like 150k or more a year to buy new, 2bh.
>>
buy a three year old off-lease car with cash, drive it for eight to ten years, chop in, repeat

there you have it. that's the Terrible Secret of /o/. here's your complimentary stack of twingo memes and instagram-filtered 'track shots', now away you go
>>
>>14628837
>someone besides ferd or VAG
I'm not buying a focus. It's too fast and too expensive anyway. Something around $26k like a WRX with around 250-280hp is all I want.
>>
>>14626363
If car payments don't make sense to you it's probably a good idea to continue driving beaters and paying for them in cash.

If you can make sense of car payments and are stable financially, you're so dumb for not financing a new vehicle.
>>
last new car i bought got stolen by a nigger and never found

never again

Nigger what are you doing
You do realize down payments are a thing? And if you save the respectable money you make for some time you can just buy the thing outright?

I mean I understand not buying New and there are plenty of legitimate reasons, but I don't think this is one of them.
>>
I've never had a car payment, probably never will. I'm 25 and the newest car I've ever owned was '04. Went back to my classics, rocking a '79 C10 atm.
