My father would like to buy me a car. He appears to be thinking BMW, $7000-10000, and 2003 or newer. I am considering a Manual 7 series. What should I do?

you're out of luck if you live in the states.
>>
>>14614290
Darn it.
>>
>>14614290
E38s are nice though. With big, comfy cars it's ok to have automatics. Or you could go with a manual E39.
>>
>>14614281
Best bet, don't buy a Beamer. Lexus ain't bad if it's luxury/speed you want in that price range.
>>
Z3 or Z4
>>
>>14614320
It's not my choice, my dad seems pretty set on a BMW for me. I can't complain.
>>
>>14614320
or if you're a grandmother
>>
>>14614331
this
really solid cars and comparable maintenance/reliability to an e36, which is good
shoot for a n 00/01 3.0 for dat m54 powah

early e9x's are getting down in that price range too but they're not as fun

would you be fixing this thing yourself op?
>>
>>14614362
>>14614331
Nice, but I need a 4 door sedan or wagon
>>
>>14614362
>would you be fixing this thing yourself op?
Yes.
>>
>>14614375
that complicates matter a little, i guess you could get an e39 but they need some upkeep

maybe shoot for a really well cared for late-model 530i with a stick shift and sport package?
>>
>>14614402
E39 and 530i look promising, thanks
>>
>>14614424
post your local craigslist

be mindful that an e39 isn't a particularly great first bmw, a really clean e46 wagon might be better but they're all frigging awd.

i mean, the 530i is actually a real reliable engine but the e39 just has various annoying problems in general
>>
>>14614481
What's wrong with awd and what problems does the E39 have? I don't need a stick, but I do need 4 doors more than anything.
>>
>>14614504
cooling system issues for one
>>
>>14614504
you'll want a stick to avoid the autotragic issues.
i can't really list all the potential problems you might face but the cooling system will be annoying, the CCV system will break, and various electrical issues among other things.

they're great to own but you need to dedicate time and money on maintenance and repairs
>>
Thank you for the advice, still not sure which I will get but I will avoid automatic.
>>
>>14614578
why not get a lexus is350? comfy, reliable, and fast as fuck (5.5 0-60)
>>
>>14614585
>not a 2j
>>
>>14614585
My dad is partial to BMW for some reason. I already own 2 cars, a Pontiac and a Lincoln
>>
>>14614638
please test drive an e39 and an e46 though, preferably a RWD e46 with the sport package

2000 540i/6 reporting what would you like to know about the best car I've ever owned?
>>
>>14615747
that's the other thing
anyone who owns an e39 falls in love with it. hard.
>>
>>14614281
IS300 or a GS if you're not retarded mentally
>>
>>14614281
>bimmer
>7 series
Keep in mind that 7 series are huge money pits, expect to throw thousands of bucks at it, annually.

I don't even know if your dad spoils you or hates you
>>

Maybe OP's dad wants OP to drown in repairs from the BMW, so OP would learn to wrench.
>>
>>14614281
IS300.
>>
>>14614281
There are no manual 7 series from 2003. E38 (1994-2001) was the last 7 series to feature a manual trans
Get a 5 series with a 6 speed
>>
You say you need four doors. If you need actual rear seat room, avoid the e36 and e46 3-series. In other words, get a 2006+ (e90). That'll be on the high end of your price range, but mroe reliable than an e39 5-series. There was a wagon, but finding one with a stick is almost impossible.

Old BMWs generally don't make good used cars. You already know this. Good luck.
