What should one expect to pay for an fd in america?
I've seen them range from 10k to 40k so just wondering what they're actually worth
>>
>>14542680
>I've seen them range from 10k to 40k
Fuck, really?

I should really try and pick one up here before I come back then.
>>
The only expensive ones are the Spirit Rs and the Bathursts which America never got.
>>
>>14542680
>actually worth
Same as any mid 90's used car. The rice tax is way high on them though
>>
>>14542689
http://atlanta.craigslist.org/nat/cto/5437909910.html
Do you think importing would be better? No idea how to go about that though
>>
>>14542712
Wow I saw this car a couple weeks ago at a tire place in his area.
>>
Spirit Rs are the highest tier model of the RX-7 FD3S lineage.

$44,000.

So whatever is below that.

They will go higher. You are already too late to the Honda NSX Type-R price jump.
>>
>>14542712
wew

I only said that because I can get them for $4-7K
>>
>>14542771
spirit rs were never sold in america

$12-19k is the going rate.

$20-24k if it's in especially good condition.

$8-11k if it's beat up.

<$7k if it's inoperable.
>>
I keep worrying about the rising prices here in nz but at least I feel a little better knowing that they arent as bad as burgerland.
>>
>>14542786
you in japan too? fuck some cars are cheap here compared to their prices in n. america.
>>
i hadnt really bothered looking up fd prices here since they aren't really my thing, but holy fuck are the cheap.

bathurst with 53k km for $6700

I'd pay 15k for one in solid condition. Anything highly modified or in mint condition is goign to fetch a huge premium.

Even averaging 20k for decent ones, iit is about as fast as you can go for that level of investment. If you drop another 15-20k on it, there isn't much sub 200k that could beat it stock.

Best of all it looks exotic while doing this, not like a modified civic.
>>
>>14542819
You are about 3-4k low on all numbers, values are moving up rapidly.
>>
Fuck, this is really making me consider bringing one over from Japan when I move back to Canada land. Are RWD examples worth less in Canada than their LHD counterparts? The car would obviously have a bunch of extra JDM goodies like oem rear backup camera, etc. Looking at the prices here it looks like I could probably buy a super nice ~70k km example and ship and register it in Canada for less than $12k CAD all in.
>>
>>14542680
No more than $19k

13B-REWs last 100k miles max... so 19k for a base FD in the least valuable color combo with a motor that is about to blow.
>>
>>14543672
Also not a base, it is a touring. Worse than a base.
>>
series 6- 15k
series 7- 20k
series 8- 20k-40k depending on trim, only type rz and spirit r (type a) should be 30k+

>series 6 SP
50k+
>>
>>14543690
What's the most valuable color?
>>
>>14543672
this

their pretty cheap in commiefornia unless ls swapped
>>
>>14543699
I think yellow was produced in the lowest volumes
>>
>>14543699
CYM and White have very low production numbers, also 94s and 95s are worth more than 93s.

I think half of all FDs are vintage red.

Black interiors are worth the most, porno red for the right buyer on the right exterior color.
>>
>>14543711
That car is complete garbage. Its maybe a 12-14k car. It is going to need a motor rebuild very soon. Turbos soon. Reliability mods. As I said basically the worst color and trim. The only way it could be worse is being an auto. The only thing it has going for it is the mileage and the condition.
>>
>>14543699
Most popular ones I've seen are chaste white and cym yellow
>>
>>14543690
The new engine was rebuilt by a professional rotary mechanic, it should run fine.

>>14543690
The red w/tan interior is the best color combo, I don't care if it's cheap.
>>
>>14543738
Its being sold by a used car dealership. What do you expect.

>drive by used car lot one day, see shiny silver FD, decide to have a look
>series 7, automatic, 160,000km
>25k

here is one in need of a rebuild

>The new engine was rebuilt by a professional rotary mechanic, it should run fine.
From ad
>A used and tested engine (105 psi front and rear) with 80,000 miles was professionally installed.

Where are you seeing rebuilt? They swapped in a motor that is about to go so they can flip it.
>>
>>14542680
20k for a good one, if you pay more than 30 you're getting scammed
>>
>>14543758
>105psi on both rotors is "about to go"
No it isnt. Thats healthy compression.
>>
OP here. Seems like I should look into importing a lower trim, since they are apparently dirt cheap in japan.
>>
>>14543787
80k miles, it is full of carbon, that is the only reason it is reading that high.
>>
>>14543789
If you're in a LHD country do it, but in the US LHD would tickle my autism too much.

>>14543738
http://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/cto/5402713184.html
http://sfbay.craigslist.org/sfc/cto/5423411851.html
These are the other two decent ones in my area. I would definitely go for the red one at the dealership first, though.
>>
>>14543797
80k isnt that high, 105psi is strong. I dont know why youre so set on claiming its about to blow at any minute.
>>
>>14543690
>13B-REWs last 100k miles max
Nice meme.
>>
>>14543824
I'd maybe look at the second one. All three you are going to be looking at an engine rebuild soon

If I was getting into a FD again I would want a straight body base or R1 with under 100k miles with a rebuilt (not reman) motor, replaced turbos, and a few reliability mods for around 20k.

Some people really love FDs, and they don't care that things go wrong with them, its all part of the ownership experience. They will pay 17-18k for that dealer car. Other people like me think a car is worthless if can't ever drive it because it is always needing repair, its not the fact that it needs repair, it is amount of time it spends off the road.
>>
>>14543869
Also, the ad gives the name of the guy who did it, if you're really unsure of the engine you could go ask him about it.
>>
>>14543897
Go read RX7Club, people are proud to make it over 100k. It doesn't happen often.
>>
>>14543936
>being this naive
After owning 20 used cars you learn what it looks like is usually what it is.

If they put a used motor in, they didn't give a shit. It doesn't matter what stories they tell you or what assurances they give you. Unless it is in writing that they will replace it no questions asked, anything they say is worthless.
>>
>>14543970
single turbo setups with water injection and modern electronics should last quite a bit longer
>>
>>14542712

This company could probably import them for you.

http://japaneseclassics.com/inventory/
>>
>>14542709
They're worth exactly as much as people are willing to pay for them.

There is no such thing as a rice tax.
>>
>>14543750
>http://sfbay.craigslist.org/nby/cto/5416841350.html
This is a sweet deal.
>>
>>14545778
>They're worth exactly as much as people are willing to pay for them.

Are you dense? This is exactly what ricer tax means.
>>
>>14543346
this will be offset by JDM imports. '91 FDs are ripe for the taking for americans, and only more good examples will be available as time goes on. After all the importation and shipping costs theres no way youd be paying more than 12k for a good japanese FD. USDM FDs wont be able to compete.
>>
>>14549184
FD's were crazy fucking expensive up here in Canada. Then when they became legal to import the NA market crashed because you could buy them cheap as shit in Japan and have one in your driveway for less than 12k all said and done.
