Be sure to have about $1500 put back to have someone professionally do the heads if you are going after a Z06

Are you really getting a C6 Z06? i heard those were kinda rough around the edges as far as ride comfort.

Did you test drive it or have you driven one before?
>>
>>14517294
I'll be going with the LS2 only backlash I'm aware of with the 427 is the lifters

Lurking in this thread.
Thinking of getting a 2005 for $16500.

Any critiques on the car? Will it be suicide?
>>

Why would you take out a loan for a car?

2005 C6? or a C6 Z06? i have no idea how you found a C6 Z06 for $16500 if so.
>>
>>14517862
what site did you find that deal
>>
>>14517578
Is the title straight anon? How much miles does it have? Make sure it hasn't been driven hard either

A clean C5 Z is more than 16k
>>
>>14518200

How I know people have no idea what they're talking about is when they say save 15 grand for cylinder heads
>>
>>14518569
It depends what you're having done with the heads. Having heads pulled off and rebuilt on a z06 is about 2k with labor. But no one does that. You're going to have those fuckers milled and ported. And you're going to put a wildass cam in there, manifolds, intake, and tb. But now your car doesn't run on pump gas anymore because you took 0.040" off the heads and the stock fuel system can't shove enough E85 into the motor for all the air that it wants to suck in. So now you go out and buy new injectors, fuel pump, and a flex fuel sensor. Your car now makes more power than the stock clutch can handle, so that has to be replaced as well.

That can easily set you back over 15k. So yeah, 15k is a closer estimate than 1.5k to what really happens when you decide to rebuild heads on an otherwise stock z06.

It was worth every fucking penny.
>>
>>14518569
You havent seen the type of people who drive a zo6 then.
>tfw old women do this a lot
>tfw great aunt did for 13k on her z06
It gets me every time. Also the reason why i dont trust gm. Or merks. I got a lot of weird stories.

If your going for a c6 avoid the 2005s if possible, they are known for having a weak diff. 2006+ all had a different design.

I have an 05 with the stock diff and I'm at 75000 miles, however I do have another diff sitting in the garage waiting for this one to grenade.

This is my dd.

You can always check it out and see what the deal is. It is a dealer with pretty poor reviews. i mean it looks like half of these people just learned English.

I can give you all the check points to look at, the rear diff on the 05s aren't horrible, but if the car has been abused it can grenade.. You need to look at the lower radiator support abused cars tend to have broken lower supports also check inside the read wheel liners for excessive rubber I.e. burn outs.

More than likely it has been in a small accident that wasn't reported. That's how I got mine 2 years ago with with only 27k in miles for 23 grand. Only tell tell sign it had was the lens on the passenger side had less fog than the drivers.

So for those who have driven a C6, just how bad is the interior? Was thinking of getting a base 06/07 in a few years.

get an 08-later version if you're going base model. LS3 replaced the LS2 that year

Just did a 6 hour trip in mine today. ride good compared to my other sports cars, however it has more drone than the my other rides... I have heads, cam, and headers/exhaust... side note, I still got 28 mpg @ 80mph on the trip, overall average was 25mpg.

the interior is good if you get at least the 2lt. I have a 3lt.

>>14524449
the ls3 is a great more, but only 35hp more. I don't think you'll notice much difference. Both are great engines. The only difference I have noticed from the 2005-2007(ls2)to the 2008+(ls3) is the transmission for the 6 speed manuals. The ls2 manual is a bit clunky, where as the ls3 manual is more smooth... However for me the $5k difference wasn't worth it.
>>
>>14524947
do not get a c4, that shit rides like a brick. definitely pass on a c4 auto. I had one for a few years(was my first vette) it sucked me dry on my cash and the ride left me with my underwear up my ass...

>>
>>14525048
you wouldn't be making a mistake by getting either. both the ls2 and ls3 are great motors.

my list of sports cars i've owned, not in any order.

1978 porsche 911 with 3.0 swap
1985 porsche 911
1986 corvette
1982 280zx turbo
1984 300zx turbo
1988 300zx turbo
1999 t/a ws6
2000 ford focus zx3, built motor w/ turbo @ 18 psi and 4000 watt sound system.
1976 383 roadrunner(more muscle then sport).
2005 GTO with maggie supercharger 600whp
2006 porsche c4s
current- 2005 c6 manual.
>>
>>14525105

That's a pretty impressive list, which one would you say is your favorite?
>>
>>14525105
Hm, I'm sort of worried about losing any resale value but getting the LS2 or over 3. Pretty good if your C6 rides better than a 996, though.

How well does the 86' Vette's engine handle? I know the later C4 models had better engines, but I'm looking at 85-89 specifically for the interior and exterior styling (gotta get dat 80s).

what is the purpose of you buying a vette? are you going to drive regularly or just a Sunday car?>>14525138
the first model C4(82-84) had crossfire injection, which had a lot of problems. the next was the TPI l98 corvette which my first vette was.. It was a fun car no doubt, I still like the design of the exterior, the interior pissed me off though. I loved the 80s still gauge cluster, but desu the breadbox( passenger side dash) drove me crazy, it stuck out like a foot. I ended up removing the bread box and installing a plate. look up corvette breadbox it serves no fucking purpose
.>>14525138
the engine was ok.... I'm pretty sure any of my Z's would have stomped it in the 1/4. I had an auto and it was slow super slow off the line and I mean slow. however at highway speeds it would get with it. Tid bit of information, the 80's c4 had the split blinkers like in your picture, the 90's and up c4 had round blinkers like this one.

The bad: The interior materials are garbage. Rattles constantly if it's less than 50F outside. My nav unit would shut down any time the car would exceed 1.2g. The seat is garbage for supporting you (maybe it's fine if you're super fat tho). Car has fuckhuge tires so no matter what you put on there it's probably going to be loud on the highway. Might be fine on a base model vette with more comfort oriented tires but even with my winters on it's pretty loud. With 335 R888s all around it actually sounds like your wheel bearings have disintegrated.

The good: Relatively roomy inside (i'm 6'2 and I fit fine even with a helmet on). Placement of the pedals, wheel, shifter is ideal for me. Hatch space is actually pretty nice. Visibility is good too because of the glass hatch. Really not a bad car to take long trips in as long as it's either warm out or if interior nuisances don't bother you. HVAC in the car is great whether it's 100F out or -25F out. Seat warmers are HOT if you want them to be - pretty nice on the way home from the gym.

I DD'd a C6Z for the last few years, but it's just my fun/hpde car now. Drove it through 4+" snow, it did fine with winter tires. Ground clearance was the only annoyance, but that should be obvious.
>>
>>14525315
I think I'll go test drive one to see just how bad the rattles, seats and road noise is. As a potential DD I can see that getting old quick.
>>
>>14525277
then I wouldn't worry about the resale value, if your going to DD mileage is going to hurt the value more than ls2 vs. ls3. I thought about that and decide to save the money up front as I knew I wouldn't recoup it with the amount of driving I would put on it.

>>14525294
well. My first problem was a leaking fuel injector, i could smell fuel at idle, I replaced all the injectors, then the fuel pump went out, after that the ignition system went out, replaced that. Then my tires were starting to get bald(not the cars fault) I replaced them. after that the rear monoleaf started to fracture( i noticed the right rear tire started to camber more and more as i drove it). I replaced it with a metal one. After that the motor over heated on me(In fairness it did get me to my destination 30 miles away). I had the motor pulled and rebuilt. After that I put about 5000 miles on the new motor and started to notice the transmission was shifting at odd points, and not shifting where it should. then the drivers side head gasket started leaking! at this point I had $12,000 into it and decided that it was costing me way more money than I was able to enjoy, so I sold it for $2500.00 and got into my next ride.
>>
>>14525330
It really depends on your tolerance for that kind of stuff. Didn't bother me when it was my DD because I was just used to it. But now it's pretty annoying when I get in the car. The door panels are just embarrassingly floppy and I think that's what may be generating the noise. If you live somewhere warm it's not a problem. Car only gets squeaky when it's cold.
>>
>>14525351
>then I wouldn't worry about the resale value, if your going to DD mileage is going to hurt the value more than ls2 vs. ls3. I thought about that and decide to save the money up front as I knew I wouldn't recoup it with the amount of driving I would put on it.
I'd still worry about it anyway, even though mileage will be the killer I still imagine LS2/3 will be a big-ish factor.

>>14525355
Wouldn't call it warm. Moving around a year or so before or after buying my next car and am not 100% on the climate of wherever that may be.
>>
>>14525315
I disagree with the interior being garbage, however you said yours is a c6z and mine is a base with a body and c6z wheels/tires. the only rattling i get is from my targa top and from the drone from my exhaust. Also I live 1.5 miles down a dirt road which I drive multiple times a day. the popping from the top can get annoying today was a high of 37f. it is a good car for long drives. and your right about the seats, the 2 setting for heat on the seats are roast your ass or hardly noticeable.
>>
>>14525407
The doors are made of shitty foam and literally flop around if you look at them wrong. The dash isn't much better. The plastic fascias feel like they're bound to crack at any second. The center console barely latches. The glovebox only stays shut if nothing is kept inside of it. The seats offer next to no support.

Everything is placed in an appropriate spot and functions well, but it's built like shit.
>>
>>14517291
E46 M3 is a far better driving experience.

I honestly don't know why anyone would ever buy a fake sports car GM piece of crap. The only saving grace is that it's cheap, but why go fast in a crappy car when you can still go fast in a good car?

>>
>>14529630
That's what gears are for. You pretty much can't be in gear & coasting ~2000 RPM though, which because of the Z06 gearing is ~17 mph in first. Only time it was annoying was in stop and go traffic around Chicago. Which is pretty miserable no matter what you're in. I DD'd it for 4 years w/o issue.

>>14527902
The 2LZ - it's an 06 Z06. The 3LZ materials are a little better but they're still not "nice." The 3LZ also doesn't fix the underlying issue of the interior components mostly being foam with little structure to hold them together. The cam lope and relatively tight suspension don't make matters any better. I'm very happy overall and the bad interior doesn't bother me, but I would like the car even more if the interior was better built. Plenty of options from BMW or Porsche that are nicer cabins to spend time in and are just as fun on most roads.
>>
>>14525919
Cayman S is a far better driving experience.
