Who regularly drives at over 2500 rpm here?
Who needs upshifting when you have torque?

autofags need not apply
>>
>>14512538
I do in my NA Silvia. Only because I like the exhaust tone.
>>
I drive a performance vehicle not a diesel semi so yes
>>
Tfw vtec engine

Fun dont begin till 5200 rpm
>>
Torque range on my 4.0 is between 2000 and 3000rpm, it only makes sense to drive it within that range.
>>
>no tach
You tell me desu
>>
I can't afford the gas it would take to run around above 2500 all the time.

>always keeping it low

Enjoy your carbon buildup.
>>
>>14512538
I usually drive my gf's Ford focus, shift around 3-4k depending on how I'm driving.
>>
>implying upshifting above 2500 isn't normal

Is it not normal? Do people usually upshift around 2000? Even when I'm driving my most conservatively, I rarely shift below 2500. Unless it's from 3-->4 or 4-->5 I guess.
>>
I'll drive up to 3k rpm, I've pretty much set that as my shifting point, mainly because I like the exhaust note in that range.
>>
>>14512985
Literally entirely depends on the car. 2500 is very different for an old, large displacement V8 compared to a more modern I4.
>>
>1.8T
>Torque doesn't kick in until 3k or so rpm
Shifting below 3500 rpms feels weird when accelerating from a stop. Also wonder if it's better to stay in that rpm range for better mpg. Such as better gas mileage for driving 70 vs 55 mph.
>>
I shift at 3 or 4 usually

7200 rpm redline
>>
>>14512538
Subaru BRZ, hardly ever go above 2500rpm on my commute, hardly ever go below 5500rpm on track.
>>
1.6 blacktop, 8.5k redline

It feels like I'll lug the engine anything below 2k, and often drive just at or a little under 3k rpm
>>
>>14512538
I drive around 3k and shift around 3500-4000. Motor mounts are shot, so if I keep it around 2k everything shakes and buzzes so violently you start to go deaf.

>Pls don't die before new mounts come
>>
>>14512538
i keep em low unless hooning

i don't like making excessive noise unlike inconsiderate fucks especially at 5am

1.1 twingo
the force awakens at 3500-4500
>inb4 tacho in twongi: I got aftermarket one
-don't give a shit about gas mileage because it's still ridiculusly high even while driving in fujiwara zone
-don't give a shit about engine because it has already 240000km(150k Miles) on the clock and still in perfect condition.
-don't give a shit about clutch because it's on "things to replace" list for 4 years now, yet has no intention to die.
All I care about is having fun and making noise

My tach is marked at even intervals.
2200, 2400, 2600 etc. just to be difficult.
>>
My 85 Volvo 240 with the high compression engine would cruise around city streets below 2000, sometimes close to 1000

1.8 Miata here. Once she's warmed up I rarely shift below 6k RPM for normal everyday driving.
>>
>>14516375

Holy shit i thought that was an S14

from that thumbnail, I did too. Even said in my head "hey a non-riced out S14"
>>
>>14512538
Engine sits at 3k rpm when cruising at 80 in 6th, so it's not like I have much of a choice in the matter.

2013 5.0 here. Never go above 2k normal driving. But with a full exhaust and And the coyote engine screaming at 7800 rpm. The noise it makes. It makes angels cry.
>>
My W124 runs at 3k at 70.
>>
I live in SF

I usually shift anywhere from 2.5 - 3k when on flat

3.5k+ when I'm going up hills. On the huge fuvkin hills I usually just wind out 1st and 2nd gear.

Sometime going downhill I just put it in 5th

I drive a shit integra
>>
>>14512846
You drive a ranger also?
>>
>>14518102
It truly is suffering. The drone wears on you quick
>>
>>14512538
at highway speeds im spinning between 3.5 and 4k. No its not a honda.
>>
Fiesta ST here, and realizing to my own surprise that I actually have no idea what RPM I shift at. I'm so used to the car after a few years that I just know what gear to be in depending on speed and situation, and don't really pay attention to the track.

It's kind of the same story on the track or in the canyons, too, I just put it in whichever gear makes sense for the corner I'm on. (Which, incidentally, is 3rd 90% of the time, because the car's so torquey at the low end that it's faster to just stomp it at 3500 in 3rd and go than it is to downshift to second and then have to upshift again right after the corner exit.)
>>
>>14518277
I live here and I can't even imagine trying to reverse parallel park into a tight spot on those uphills by the marina.
>>
>>14512538
My car doesnt have a tach
>>
>>14519671
Just count dude easy
>>
I just leave it in drive and cruise efficiently, If i'm feeling cheeky and want to do pulls, the minimum i'll run at is 3500rpm.

>>
>>14520165
Can confirm, love that V6 humming on the freeway like a god.
>>
>>14512538
Wait, are you telling me people drive below 2500?

Are these people women?
>>
>>14520239
Doubtful. A woman could hardly be asked to closely monitor a tach to stay below 2500rpm...or drive that slowly. It would have to be an autist.
>>
>>14520239
yeah but muh v8 tork tho
>>
shift the 1jz vvti at 3500

freeway 2400 rpm at 60mph instant 10 psi
>>
>>14512538
My cams don't even start until 2700rpm, faggot. Stay slow.
>>
