What's better, paying $120/month on a 10/15-year-old Honda Accord or $300/month on a 3-year-old Accord?

Insurance will be $150/month regardless of the year.

I make $2,000/month.

I'm getting an Accord for work-related purposes... I mean, I could get a TSX or Camry, but an Accord is my preferred non-hooning car.

>>
>>14452977
I prefer the former of the two
>>
You make $2000 a month, but you can't afford to buy a 10-15 year old Accord outright?

>Insurance will be $150/month
holy fuck

$2K a month isn't much if you live on your own. We can't all live in our parent's basement, faggot.
>>
I made 1500/month and I bought and kept a WRX for 1 year, sold it cause it was too expensive to get power out of it. Coulda kept it for ever.
>>
>>14452994
I could, but that will take months to save.

I have other shit to pay for, including my current Accord, which I'm paying $80/month on insurance.
>>
>>14452977
>not paying a 15 year old honda accord in one lump sump
good goy.
>>
>first job I worked one day a week
>saved up $850 to buy my first car
>moved out, live with brother
>second job I made $1400/month
>saved up $7500 to buy new car, then sold old car
>third and current job I make $2000/month
>saved up $9500 to buy another car
>still have 2nd car, trying to sell

And I'm only paying $30/month on insurance

*all figures have been converted to USD (I'm an ausfag)
>>
You guys seem to be missing the point in what I'm asking.

Would it be worth financing a 3-year-old car based on my income?
>>
>>14453154
The idea would be I'll be paying more on a modern car just to have the technology.
>>
>>14452997
Dunno where you live but... my monthly costs:

>$675 rent 1bdrm apartment
>$50 internet
>$20 cellphone
>$200 food
>$90 electricity (electric winter heating)
>$120 insurance

I live completely alone off about $1200 and I make $2500 per month.

Personally, I am driving a 17 year old accord that currently has 124k mi on it. I've put 70k mi on it and in that 4 year span I've paid about $5000 in tires/auto transmission/oil/brakes/rotors/whatever other maintenance. I had both rear wheel bearings go out about 10k mi ago and now one of the rears is going bad again. Headgasket is leaking coolant when driven hard but otherwise I put in 200ml coolant every oil change maybe.

Avoid the V6 in 6th gen accord.
>>
>>14453244
I believe most people know how terrible the 6th gen is.
>>
3 years old accord still $300? talk down to like 16k if you can. walk away if not in your budget book until you find one.

Bust ass and find 2nd job. 70hr a week.
3k per month (mostly earned by overtime)
do that and go back to school asap
get a performance degree (Chemical engineering, or hell any engineering. Or be a plumber or mechanic.)

get what ever you want once you make about 50k a year and be single.

P.S: Get gym too, because that 70hr a week will kill your diet if you not watch it. might as well be a 300lb fat ass and die early 50
>>
I would get 300$ newer accord for following reason:

1) Newer car had less problem, most likely.
2) Value will be there when you need to sell them, the 15yrs old car will worth nothing when you try to sell it.
3) I always get something I want, not considering the cheaper option. poor life choice is not getting cheaper stuff but mentality behind it. I will take extra job to cover what I want. Just like I will cook all the time and refuse to eat shit fast food. Get what you want, not what you think you can afford, you can always afford more if you earn more.

Personal loan? I can't imagine a bank would finance a car that old under normal circumstances.
>>
>>14453347
It's finally starting to fall apart; the cooling fans, cv axles, and front struts have recently started to fail (cv boots are torn). That's a $500 job I'm reluctant to do after dumping $3,000 in previous repairs.

It's a 1990 Honda Accord with 4,200 miles to go before reaching 300,000.

I've done what I could do to keep it intact, but with four previous owners who have left it out in the sun and not washing or maintaining it well, the engine, transmission, and suspension needs a lot of work done; everything was nearly worn when I bought it back in 2013 at 217,000 miles.

Hello Georgia anon.
>>
>>14453353

For that price you could buy a brand new compact car with options and have money left over.
>>
>>14453416
Compact cars are too small for what I need and I need a car large enough to carry all of my fucks.

So, a modern Accord.
>>
>>14453010
Keep the current fucking accord then, stop trying to dig yourself an even deeper fucking hole

>>14453080

Idk anon, I'd rather own a car that isn't in the brink of FALLING THE FUCK APART!
>>
Here's the cars I have in mind:

>>14453353
This 2013 Honda Accord LX CVT with 30k miles.
>>
>>14453465
Just a quick search shows a few 2013 LX cars with~35k miles for $2500 less than that one. That's going to be a difference of about $50 a month.
>>
>>14453465
This 2008 Honda Accord EX-L 6-speed V6 coupe with 106k miles.

>>
>>14453480
Ah, the one I posted was the first one that was under $17k that was near me.
>>
>>14453497
Read the reviews on this place and you'll see why you shouldn't buy from them.
>>
>>14453502
It was in Marietta I think. It really depends on where you're going to get your financing. A credit union will offer the best rates, then you can choose a better car for less money. Of course other factors as well, such as down payment, trade, etc.
>>
>>14453453
Fix it, save up like a madcunt, cut out loads of unnecessary expenses and then buy a metro or another honda outright
>>
>>14453508
So, >>14453495 would be the best option out of the other older Accords?
>>
>>14453519
I'm ignoring the rest of your posts because you do not seem to understand the situation I'm in.
>>
>>14453529
They seem to be a little less shady. At the end of the day it depends on your budget. I wouldn't really want to finance a car with over 100k miles, even if its a Honda. At these independent dealers money talks and shit walks. If you can secure financing elsewhere, then go to them, you will be able to get a better deal.

Same guy, but ok.

LX manual with 110k on this one.

I am worried that if something does break, I probably won't be able to fix it myself since everything on these cars seem to be surrounded by computers and sensors.
>>
>>14453570
The best accessory you can buy is a Bluetooth obdii dongle and an app like torque that shows diagnostic info. Honestly with a Japanese vehicle I don't see much that couldn't be fixed fairly easily.
>>
>>14453586
I just have a blind belief that cars today are too advanced for an amature DIY mechanic to work on without messing something up.

I believe that one day cars will be so advanced, it'll be impossible to remove a wheel without ruining a sensor; you already need to be careful about changing a tire because of TPMS.
>>
Not try to disrespect.

>not going to imply again

Just get better quality stuff, because repair will cost you NOT ONLY $
but time.

I would use money to buy time, or prevent time being spend in case shit goes down. You need car for work and shit so DON'T risk it.

risk other shit like cheaper cell phone because no one need verizon.

Imagine you go cheap and save a little, end up with paying more in long run. Definitely not worth your TIME.

Take more time now to search the qualify car.

I think sweet spot for you to take loan is 16000
but how good is your credit? I got 0% 72 month. I pay like 200ish for my loan and I buy additional insurance that makes my shitbox 10yr 100k mile transferable warranty.

I think answer is clear, get 3 yrs old accord and look for mileage/price ratio closely.

under 50k mile, price around 11k might be sweet spot, I would actually looking for out of state (like Texas, South Carolina etc. when I buy my new car I drove over 6hr to get it)

good luck
>>
>>14453676
There is no way you got a 0% loan on a used car.
>>
>>14453676
My credit is useless for financing because I'm attempting to pay off $2,300 from repairs; I'll need to cosign for a loan.

I was at 650 when my credit utilization was 98%, but I'm now at 680 at 73% and I just got an automatic $3,000 credit limit increase, so I'm expecting my score to climb to 720, soon.

I've only had a credit card for 2 years.
>>
>>14452977
You should never by a car on payments jesus christ, its not that fucking hard to save money. If you absolutely have to, only do it if you get 0% apr. If not then you are literally throwing money away.
>>
>>14453751
I bet you save money under your mattress too.
>>
>>14453774
Just for emergencies, there's savings account for most of it.
>>
>>14453378
Fix it. It's better than going underwater on a shitty newer car that you should be paying cash for.
>>
>>14453751
If you can make money, loan is not bad option.
I suggest don't fix it, car pool or bus for work for few month and save all your cash for 3k to 5k car.
IF you cut everything for 3 month you should able to save over 3k, use that to buy a (Toyota/Honda) 2 most reliable brand shitbox

You can't polish slippers. I will call you idiot if you keep dump money in something had 0 value and will develop more problem later on.
>>
>>14452977
>What's better, paying $120/month on a 10/15-year-old Honda Accord
My sides.
>>
>>14453751
>Sorry wrong reply

I meant to say loan is not that bad. 0% is very hard to get indeed. I only got it after 3 month car hunt and 35+ dealership (and lots of weekend)

6% is max I will take, everything more than that is shark loan. Local bank or credit union had lots of not too bad deals too. Especially credit union.

Hold on OP, life will get better.
You simply need to give it few more step before you get to your reliable car
>>
>>14452997
>make $2100/mo
>buy $7000 single-wide trailer
>utilities + lot rental all equal about $550/mo
>food, fuel, insurance, etc. is around $300/mo
>high speed internet is $34/mo and prepaid AT&T phone card with unlimited call, text, and 2g data is $45/mo

Gives me over $1k extra in the bank every single month, and personally I feel like I could probably save more if I budgeted everything better. Right now I have about $17k in savings. Thank god I don't have a wife and kids tho.
>>
How is insurance gonna be the same with a 7-12 year age gap?
>>
>>14453744
BTW 720 is damn high, when I buy my house is not even that high. Because I only use 2 credit card for my past 15 yr credit history. Although never miss payment.

Print out your credit score from Equifax and bring it to bank said you already got pre approved by other bank, you are here to shop better deal. If bank/credit union counter offer, deal. if not then work away.

3 year old car should have pretty good rate.
I am not trying to talk you into another financial shitstorm. But if you do go cheap, 3k is range just enough to make you hurt.

You either go dirt cheap (1k max, I brought my 1st auto shitbox prelude 84 SOHC for $600)
or get better car, 3k to 5k car if you miss look anything it will hurt you badly.

Judging by what you mention of repair cost, you getting rip off. Like pants down took hard from behind rip off. If you don't know how to fix it yourself I do seriously suggest you get a loan to get better car to prevent yourself into learning process of heartbroken and sucking.

Don't get ripped off.
>>
>>14454353
Exactly

if he took loan, insurance will be likely $1200 for 6 month. Holy shit I said.
Or he simply had too many ticket or being young.
>>
>>14453358
