Hey /o/, so I'm 19, and looking to get a 2006-2012 Ford Mustang.
https://www.carsforsale.com/vehicle/details/14753355
and
http://www.cargurus.com/Cars/l-Used-2012-Ford-Mustang-c22857#listing=135038906
Are two pretty nice ones that I like.
This will be the first car I bought(Right now I'm driving my mother's 2011 Ford Escape), and I'd like to know what're some things I should be concerned about?
I want a V6, because apparently that'll keep the insurance from being too costly. Automatic preferred, but I'm okay with a manual if there are benefits to having one(If anyone can convince me to get a manual I'd be really grateful).

Also lets discuss how the 2016 Mustangs are shit. They have literally no defining features and don't even look like a Mustang(See pic related)

Not baiting, I'm genuinely serious.
Why is this a bad decision?
>>14437231
Would gladly get a 67, but I need a reliable car, not one just to show off occasionally
>>
>>14437397
who says a 67 can't be a reliable DD? Get one with an I6 or restomodded
>>
>>14437170
As far as buying a manual, I feel like the only point that has to be made is that you'll have a finer level of control over the car, but if you really need another reason the gas mileage should be better assuming you're not revving it to shit.

may be bait but fuck it

>v6
If you insist on getting a VEESIX get a 2011+ model year, they have much more power than the previous years. Also v6's depreciate like fucking turds so you can get a base v6 for cheap. No offense but just stay clear car culture because once you hear and feel the v8 rumble you will forever be disappointed in yourself.
>issues
The only major issue i am aware of is the LOLDRIVESHAFTFAILURE if you go 125+ (which should be impossible sense the car is electronically governed to not reach that speed)
https://youtu.be/LZXBjVIrR08?t=36s
>Manual v Auto

Bait radars spiking. If you do as i say and get the 2011 and only use it to get from point A to point B because fuck all, while not giving a shit actually driving all while looking like a 16 year old girl, then get an auto. There is not much difference other than the manual v6 is much more fun to drive for obvious reasons and gives you instant respekt from normies. Also In /o/ terms you wont be as much of a fukboi

i fucking love me some mustangs but chose wisely, fag.
>>
>>14437595
I cringed, how can that even pass an inspection to get off the lot?
>>
>>14437595
Yey, a well worded and informative response.
Do you think the insurance costs would be much more for a V8? The insurance is what I'm really worried about, because I plan on saving 10-13k cash and buying the car so I won't have to worry about monthly payments on it.

Also, about manual vs auto, I'm considering Manual because of this. I want to enjoy driving my car, but was worried a manual would be tedious and annoying.

Also, thanks for the response anon. I may seem like I'm baiting, but in reality I'm just legitimately retarded when it comes to cars

they were governed at like 114 MPH its easily removable with tuners, but the issue was not seen until... well you took it to 135+ and had pieces of drive shaft shoot through the cabin. I know it was a 2011 issue, but i am not sure if it was fixed in later model years.
>>
If I got a mustang it would be a v8 auto. Fuck a manual drag car/tourer and fuck paying a premium on looks and not performance

all insurance cares about are age, # of doors and cylinder count, so yes your rates would rape you. Hell im sure the v6 will still be high. See if you can get it under an family member. If that is not an option go get some quotes and go form there.

As for the manual v auto, even i have to admit it is more or less a meme. The manual are defiantly more fun to drive and cheaper. If you don't live in a big city, really want to enjoy driving AND want to learn how to drive it, then go for the stick.
>>
>>14437675
Thats messed though, how rigorous are the tests? People could die

But hey they probably saved 3$ each car, and I realize that adds up, but not when people are in danger

The 2005-2015 was baby boomer pandering cant turn bullshit with burger grease interior.

The 2015+ are more of a sports car. With IRS because you know, its the current year.

This.

Your insurance will kill you over owning a sports car at a young age.

Also, automatics have just as good shifting on models after 2010 as any average Joe that drives stick.

I traded my manual mustang in for an automatic ranger. I never realised how much the novelty of manual shift didn't matter until I owned an automatic.

On another note. I may be a little late and just saw the 2017 Ford GT commercial and my dick is diamonds. I cheered.

OP don't listen to this nu-malw who bases his compensation for lack of testosterone on the type of transmission he drives. Even when it's proven that modern day automatics outperform manuals. His favorite antiquated phallic granny system is soon to be phased out completely.
>>

I'm just so happy that Ford is peeking back into its old super car prospects.

Its nothing more than a tickle on the nuts. But a full carbon fiber 2600 lbs car with a v6 pushing prospectively over 600 horse and 580 ft lbs? I can't wait until lateral g and slolem results come out. I might cry.
>>
OP here, how much would I be looking at for insurance if I'm 19, on my parents insurance, no tickets, and been driving for less than a year? (Rough estimates are fine, not expecting anything accurate)
>>
>>14437872
Hopefully its more reliable than the the last GT they tried to produce

Hopefully they can boost the market for powerful lightweight v6, honda might step up the s660 and sell it in north america
>>
>>14437898
OP I pay 145 a month with clean record (no tickets and stuff) for an 09 impreza

I dont know what you be, but I assume alot more
>>
holy fuck i needed this thread, im 18 and been looking for 2010 - 2014 mustangs, i learned how to drive manual last week, still dont know if i should go for the automatic
>>
>>14437851
>Do people not like the look of them?
The new ones? I think they look spectacular, but there is a general complaint about the headlights being too squished and tiny. I sorta agree but it gives them a mean bulldog type of look. Along with the v8 sound its a real attack dog, which i really like a lot.

Its a very pleasant modern take on muscle, unlike say the hellcat which is absolutely abhorrent imo.
>>
>>14437170
the insurance is gonna be like 400 or 500 a month kiddo and the car payment is gonna be around that too gas is gonna be like 75-100 a month

So this is coming from an anon who actually did this at around your age. I bought the v6... an 07 to be exact. 2 years later I am a owner of a 15 GT. I still have a place in my heart for the v6, but its on some buy here pay here lot now where they are trying to get $16k for it, which is a joke. My insurance was through USAA, I was paying $160 a month for my v6. Now I pay $240+ but it's worth it to me and it'll go down, and yes I bought both cars myself, no mommy and daddy to buy it for me here. I wasn't a car person until I bought that car, and I did a ton of stupid shit in it, but it brought me to the joy of loving and caring for my car.... however, the v6 will leave you disappointed when a v8 or a mexican camaro owner rolls up. I'd so buy what you want if you can afford it by yourself, you'll love it as it's still a great car, with a shitty interior and not as reliable as the cars in its league, but you'll get looks for sure.
I lived in Mass. so there's not many nice cars around, so while driving a shitty v6 i was still the coolest fucker on the road most of the time.

Here's the pros:
Sexy compared to econ cars
still pretty fast, ESPECIALLY in the 2011+, for your age, its more than enough
Just fucking get it if you really want it, you can buy them cheap, just don't plan on getting much back
Girls have no fucking clue what the difference is between a v6 and a v8 so there's that
2011+ good transmissions for auto and good a solid v6

Cons:
ricers
mostly women drive the v6
everyone wants to race you thinking you are a GT
It's a v6 and not the v8
high insurance
Don't buy it to impress girls, they don't give a shit and if they do they know its a 6.

Also, the 15/16's are the sexiest mustangs yet, and you'll understand if you drive one if you can get over the panel gap issues in some 15's (mine has minor gaps), and the wheel hop.

Pic related my old mustang.

Look anon, if you're actually being for real, do yourself a favor and forget about a V6 Mustang. It's just not worth it. Get a V8 or get something other than a Mustang
>>
>>14438041
I wouldn't lease - this is the same anon, just personal preference, you are limited with a lease and with a mustang you're probably paying close to the same for a reg montly payment if you bought it anyway.
>>
>>14438282
is 50k+ miles too much for a mustang? how many miles till they start asking for repairs?

thanks for the tips btw, i appreciate it
>>
>>14438307
i bought my old one at 50k. like with most cars depends on previous owners and weather. Mine had alternator issues and belts wore out quick, but that was really all the issues I had. If you do have a Facebook I would recommend joining the big Mustang groups on there... and if you are going to pay cash, you can find a few for sale for really good deals. It's a cult following that's been around for 50 years, you get the fanatics and you get the average joes to the ricers that put Shelby badges on a v6 along with "GTR" and louvers.
>>
>>14438307
Actually I did have my harmonic balancer blow out, but that was an issue with the 05-09... at 65k miles it broke in half that caused my alternator issues and belt issues... but if you are looking 2010+ that issue was remedied a little better as far as im aware.
>>
>V6
Once you drop down to a v6 there are probably better choices with better suspensions and or interiors, right?

Saw a 14+ mustang and a challenger that I'm pretty sure wasn't r/t because it wasn't plastered with badging that floored it through a busy intersection through a yellow. I had to move out of the way for a cop to go chase their asses.

>>14437779
Fuck insurance companies. I had to get my current car, an 08 Honda Civic, under my dads name because under him i only pay $60 a month. By myself i would have to pay something like $400 a month.

I'm in a similar boat as OP. (Probably not gonna get a sports car though) How is it possible to get insurance under your parents' name? Why would insurance companies even allow that?
>>
>>14437170
Your insurance will be no less then 300 monthy on top of a 200-350$ payment assuming you have a cosigner

Also will you be okay knowing you will most likely wreck/trash this car
>>
>>14440006
You have to have your parents put the car in their name. Of course youre fucked if you crash because you wont be covered, so stay safe
>>
>>14437170
Where I live (BC Canada) the insurance companies go solely off of how old the car is and how much it would be worth.

The insurance rates of a 1989 JDM twin turbo supra are exactly the same as a similar year Camry would be, again because they really only go off of how old the car is.

I'm 18 and I drive a 1992 Lexus sc400 (V8, rwd, 2 door) and I only pay $130/month for insurance.

Before that I owned a 2008 Subaru Legacy and that was $220 a month to insure because of how much newer it was.

That's just for British Columbia though I'm not sure where you are
>>
>>14437170
Get out of here faggot. Clearly you're not an enthusiast.

Get a V8 and a manual. Everything else is shit.
>>
Get a mk5 or mk6 GTI. 4 doors, 4 cylinders, enjoy low insurance.
>>
>>14440869
Although they will eventually find out about you and throw you on the policy.
