I'm pretty sure it's functional on the the street car as well even though there is no direct tubing. Pic related appears to be a modified NSX with its mesh engine cover taken off and an after market snorkel applied but the NSX-R GT works the same.

those type of intakes are the ones used on aircraft because they can let air in without disturbing the flow of air around the rest of the body relative to a flat surface with no duct.

though I'm fairly sure it makes essentially no difference until you start approaching mach speeds. I think the F40 had them too, but it's mostly just for looks.

It's not just for looks, NACA ducts actually stop working approaching mach, they excel at low speed air control with minimum drag.

The only challenge with them is position them correctly in relation to other airflow so they don't end up becoming low pressure zones themselves. The yellowbird suffered from this problem, they actually sucked air out of the engine bay rather than sending it through.
Hence why on later cars they removed it before customers called bullshit, and eventually resorted to putting on fake ones for the look.

I've visited the Koenigsegg factory actually, used to live like 30 min drive away from it. Awesome to see it in person, pictures don't do it justice.

This was a couple of years ago before /drive and before the One:1 and the Regera so they weren't as well known, they probably get flooded with phonecalls from neckbeards who just want to touch carbon fiber once in their life these days. But when I called they were happy for me to swing by and take a tour.

Air intake if they're on that side, intercooler is over on the right generally.

Doing an SW20 properly means water-to-air intercooler anyway so you can just throw it wherever, cool intake air is pretty important especially in such a small+cramped bay.
