/o/ im seriously debating as to whether or not i should buy an eg/ek hatch. talk me into/ out of it.
>>
Find one in a local Honda group page that has an h22 swap with a b series transmission. It will do 0-60 in the low 5 seconds with a lsd. It will make you happy.
>>
>>14302436
Go for it take some for test drives if u like it buy it, if u listen to people on 4chan ul never get anything cause everyone here hates anything that isn't thers, just buy what makes ya smile
>>
Get an Si or an Si equivalent. If it doesn't have rear disc brakes and a dohc engine it's trash. This is a must.
>>
>>14302450
>>14302436

+1
i always liked the ek and ef hatches, i was looking for one before i got the s13
>>
>>14302436
I've owned both.
Sold them both within 3 months because I got bored with them.
>>
>>14302466
S13 with an rb26 is my dream mate one day, one day......
>>
What I love about the Honda scene and what really hooked me is how grass roots the tuning scene is. The Common mods are high compression pistons, cam swaps, and long runner manifolds.
>>
>>14302476
im eventually swapping the ka24e for something but lol california

right now its just being built for daily reliability and the occasional midnight fun.
>>
U can go on craigslist right now and find k swap ek/eg hatches all day in the tri state. With disks all around. Suspension setups. Etc etc. Ull spend between 5 to 8k. Well worth it if ur looking for a honda and u know what ur doing.
>>
>>14302497
Fair enough I've got a mate with a 180 running an rb25det with an ar70 the thing is loose, we dnt have smog or anything like that in New Zealand, I got rid of the cat on my sti made a straight pipe exhaust I gotta put a muffler on the end coz it's a bit loud for the kids haha even tho they love it
>>
>>14302497
There is a guy in town who put a s15 turbocharged engine from japan in his 240. It's illegal and he acts like a wanted fugitive while driving but it's pretty cool.

After he first built it he blew the headgasket racing another guy's nova.

Do it m8.

I got mine for $1300 and it's been a joy to drive every day. I buy something new for it every now and then.
>>
>>14302522
Fully legal in New Zealand u just have to certify it with vtnz which costs around 400 but a s15 spec r will run ya anywhere between 10-25k which in usd is 7-17k
>>
>>14302520
>>14302522
im thinking eventually when i get another car or the z32 running again im going to put the s13 as non op and throw some rb series in ther in there and just use it for fun at night.

of course if i were to get caught i would get anally raped but meh

or i could go legal and have an ls1.

fuck this state
>>
>>14302551
What makes having an rb illegal?
>>
>>14302561
smog emissions
over here they have to be farting out gasses clean as a whistle or be labeled a gross polluter. now they wont take your car and crush it but you cant legally drive it in the state on public roads.

they only take your cars and impound it or crush it depending on shit if your in the street racing scene and caught.

and in certain area only too.

you also loose your license for a few years among other fines and bullshit
>>
>>14302534

....1300 luck sob.
>>
>>14302586

SHIT! California right?
>>
>>14302436
Oh god... I was just like you once anon.

Buy a civic they said.
It will be fun they said.
Now here i am a few years later thousands of dollars poorer. Don't buy it unless you're prepared to become addicted to modding.
>>
>>14302593
yup
>>
>>14302586
That would suck my younger brother just bought a r32 gtst coupe with a decatted 3inch straight pipe and there's nothin the police can do coz it's not "too loud" emissions testing would suck ass
>>
>>14302606
Would a good exhaust proper tune and high flow cats bring it within legal measures?
>>
>>14302598

Why mod? You fucking ricer. I would buy a hatch. But keep it stock as possible.

If i really wanted to race i would buy a mustang or a camaro that originates 200hp at the wheel. Not some japanese lunch box.
>>
>>14302614
This is what every Honda owner starts out saying.
Lol
>>
>>14302588
I haggled it down from 1800.

>I'm the tenth owner
>just needed a new MAP sensor to run good
>all but one tire was shit
>transmission mount exploded while driving because only one bolt was in, others were stripped so I had to helicoil it, needed a new CV axle when it happened
>no cotter pins on front LCAs, one literally fell off during a turn, broke that CV axle again

No regrets, though. I just want to get all the dents out and maybe a new paintjob.

>>14302598
You may be right. I do take care of all my bills first, though.
>>
>>14302614
>implying a slightly gutted eg with a stock gsr isn't a better platform
>>
>>14302614
Oh nvm, i thought you were a hobbyist. Or at least somewhat understood car culture.
It's not about racing anon, it's about the feeling you get working on /customizing/improving your car.
>>
>>14302607
>"too loud"
kek we also have noise related shit too their exhaust note cant be above a certain levels too.

that depends on the cops though
>>14302611
i dont know man its possible but that shit costs money

>high flow cats
we got some of the most restricting ones here we have to buy special expensive ass ones that got for almost double regular ones

when i got my z32 i needed two of em and came out to 500+ dollars
>>
>>14302634
Here's a pic of the day before I bought it.
>>
>>14302606

Thanks. I know out here in cali you can illegally smog and these mexican now want 400 dollars to do so.

So many people do it or they mod there vehicle to the point cops will pull you over for the stupidest thing. just so they can send you to a smog referee.

In my county I actually have police checkpoints. Not for dui.s. But for modifications! You will see them stop every single honda. pull them to the side for inspection. Ans everybody else get a wave by.
>>
>>14302639
Damn makes me feel a lot luckier for the cars I've owned, it sounds like a lot of hassle to have a fast/fun car but you got v8s comin out ur arse in the us

Theyre awesome to drive and easy to work on, but expect them to cost you 2 or 3 grand if you want one in decent condition without Honda cancer or a bunch of shitty work done on it.
>>
>>14302638

. But to defile and reduce value of a vehicle is not something to be proud of. Especially a car that is worth more unmolested.

>>14302634

Look at this poor hatch for example. These cars are becoming much harder to find or expensive because people want to do stupid shit to them. But that's my point im coming across.
>>
>>14302649
yeah we have those here too apparently, never seen them myself however.

and its getting more expensive since those places are getting shut down now

>>14302664
yeah but its only in this state others aren't so restrictive
>>
>>14302678
Yea I guess, I like my japa turbos so I'd find it hard to live in the states nearly pulled the trigger on a r34 rb25 non turbo manual for 4k wish I bought it now but instead I bought a sr20det Nissan avenir and a Toyota starlet glanza v with a 1.3 turbo lotsa fun from both cars but the skyline would've been more fun
>>
>>14302678

I want one really bad now. Just because is the best looking hatch out there.

But they are so expensive in cali. And to find one unmolested and smog ready is fucking bitch.

Also they get stolen so often. These cars are Mexican And coon magnets. I always hear a story of some one Honda getting stolen.

Happened to me once at college of all places, where the incompetent fucks they hired for security didn't even know what to say to me.

Pretty sure theyre the most stolen model in america. Best thing to do is just put an alarm on it right after you buy it, get a foot club, and probably pull the ignition fuse when you leave it for over a few hours.
>>
>>14302699
yup know a guy who has an ef and had it gotten stolen 3 times now. and who knows how many times before he had it.

my z32 got stolen before i had it and dude almost ran it into the ground leaving it with internal damage that didnt arise til i hooned it.

and my 00 z28 got stolen from my work parking lot and never got it back.

Mine came with an alarm which is nice. Has that stereotypical WHOOP WHOOP noise to it which gets a few chuckles out of friends.

I'm actually surprised that there are no records of theft with its nine previous owners. The title isn't even a duplicate, either.

move to somewhere with mountains, or even in the foothills. way better to deal with some rednecks than it is to live with straight roads everywhere.

tennessee is spitting distance from the Appalachian mountains

They also sell relays that can be disengaged via a clicker just like the one for ur alarm. U can run a chain inside ur hood to legit chain it shut. If u have actually money invested in ur car ppl will come with a flatbed and boost ur shit here in NJ. Thats just how it is. Gotta be smart.

Yeah it's awful to find a tutorial for something I need to do only to see dead Photobucket links to the images. I've made a few friends locally though since I bought the car. Would have never met them if I was still in my automatic shitbox. They're a good source of parts and advice.

Thankfully none of them are ricers. Well except one guy but he's alright.

Good news for guys our age is in the next couple years we ought to be able to start importing them. All the old people who modded them are probably burnt out, so we get the genuine Japanese stuff when we're probably financially stable.
