Pic related is the latter
>>
Best: USA
Worst: Everywhere else.

What's so bad about Canada?
>>
Worst: Singapore.

The taxes are so retarded that you have to either be rich or drive a company vehicle.

Otherwise, your ass takes the bus
>>
I'm on the fence about the States. On one hand cars are cheap, plentiful and easy to modify. On the other hand the average road is utterly boring and in an increasingly worse condition, a country this developed shouldn't rationally have such awful fucking drivers, and it's absolutely full of complete dickheads.
>>
>>14159613
it's your fault for living in vermont you dumb moron.

most states outside of the midwest have great driving roads.

Mostly flat, need to travel far to reach a tooj.
Snow most of the year, not so bad if you like pulling hektik skids in the ice.
If you're in quebec like me, all the roads are shit. It almost makes it not worth owning a nice car because all the roads are so full of holes, it's easy to fuck yourself.

Pretty sure Canada is GOAT is your an "auto enthusiast" Alberta and BC mostly.

The good provinces are rich as fuck and gas is cheap as fuck.
Fuckloads of land and open space containing every type of driving style/activity you could ever want.
What was that? Couldn't hear you over my 2 stroke that I can drive legally on the streets.
No emission inspections in most provinces.
>>

That and kickass 15 year import laws.

Ah, there's the problem. You should try moving to Canada. I consider any province past Alberta as an extension of the USA and not Canada Worthy.

BC is mid tier. There's little to no tracks/motorsports and the province is so sparsely populated the density of fun roads and paved roads is low compared to more heavily populated mountainous parts of the world like the Euro Alps/California/Japan.

Boring roads, hardly any 2J, not even in the Rockies. Year is 5 months of snow/ice/roadsalts and 5 months of road construction. Imports must be 15 years old minimum. Half of the worlds brands never show up. Haven't seen a car over 100,000 bucks in weeks.

Japan is obviously top tier. Call me a "weeaboo" but you can not deny the fact that there is nowhere else in the world with as many car enthusiasts, tracks, tuning shops, traffic-less touge, metropolis expressways, and general love of cars per square mile.

Pick any random town on Honshu. I bet there's a nice touge 5 minutes away.

Obviously there's disadvantages, the cost of living is generally high and owning an older sports car is not cheap there, but fuck, obviously tons of people do it.
>>
Japan is pretty bad. Yes, you get access to all of the cool Japanese cars, but, at the same time, taxes are heavy and the roads are narrow.

You could definitely fit any normal sized car down that road. The matter of opposing traffic would be a problem. See that truck in the distance? Obviously made it down the road just fine because there wasn't any opposing traffic. The only place these roads exist are in rural parts of the country where traffic is so infrequent that it rarely ever matters.

The best place to be an enthusiast would have lots of great driving roads; very little traffic, law enforcement and invasive transport regulations; lots of different interesting cars available cheaply; cheap fuel; a thriving and varied motorsport scene and just the right climate.

I don't know if there are any US states that are like that. There might be. Alternatively, perhaps there are some European states in the right places that are politically stable enough that you'd actually want to live there, but unstable enough that the government isn't under any real pressure to worry about what car guys are up to. I wonder what car ownership is like in Croatia, for example.

nah, nah mate, you've gotta be trolling. The majority of the cars on the roads of Japan are not kei cars. Yes, there are small rural roads that would be somewhat annoying to negotiate with a larger car, yes there are back alleys that are smaller. But if you actually click on random streets in the city or countryside, you'll see that theyre filled with averge sized sedans and trucks.

The roads are definitely NOT too small to be a car enthusiast in fucking japan. The cars we covet are generally small 2-doors anyways.
>>
Are import laws that restrict by age common worldwide or is this just an NA thing?

15 years here ain't too bad but it's still a dumb law.
>>

Yes, but small roads are completely unavoidable.

Also, you have to spend $2000 on driving school.
>>
>>14160448
Its common world wide, but varies depending on the country. i know a few south american countries have flat out age restrictions like the usa.

In australia for example any car imported thats made after 89 needs to be made compliant with local laws, muh blinkers and safety shit whatever
any car before 89 anything goes as long as it meets emissions standards of the time or some bullshit

Best- New zealand by far. Barely any invasive modification laws. As long as it isnt a constant explosion risk almost any vehicle can be registered. Insurance isnt mandatory. Cheap imports (can buy a skyline for 6k nzd) . Driving liscence actually requires you to know how your car works and know defensive driving. Amazing roads .all the main roads have well maintained seal. And cops dont care if you hoon as long as you are well away from the main roads and theres no traffic. Regular car meets and events all over the country

Worst. Singapore. Communist shithole that makes cars cost as much as houses

Yes, a lot, Gravel and Pavement. Unfortunately Calgary is kind of far away from the mountains so you have to drive an hour to get to them. The 40 and highwood pass are pretty close and have very nice turns, the 66 is nice too. Most roads leading up to the ski resorts are pretty epic if you want to get your touge on.
>>
>>14160678
Don't forget that if you decide to settle and buy a vaguely sporty used car and build it to be something fun, if some dumb old person , a dumb soccer mom, a dumb teen ever hits you, you'll not only trigger the persecution complex most if these people have , but this car you've poured money into will get totaled and you'll have to end up paying more and getting fucked despite doing nothing wrong

In the winter (which lasts 4-7 months depending on where you live) salt destroys your car. In the summer, all the ice thawing creates massive potholes, most of them easily big enough to completely ruin rims and suspension. That is, if you're actually going fast enough to do any damage. Which you won't be, due to constant road work. Insurance costs are high as fuck. My 19 year old friend pays $700 A MONTH on a 2015 WRX. A MONTH. He has a clean driving record, no tickets. Your cars get inspected frequently, so hektik modz are hard to do, you need to be able to revert to stock easily. The used market is expensive as fuck. Gas isn't cheap. The dollar is shit. Speed limits are low. Tracks are few and far between. Oh Canada.

>a combination of climate and MOT law makes it much harder to preserve classics than, say, the US (though that problem is somewhat mitigated by some super zealous owners' clubs)
>if you live in London, as many do, good luck running a car at all
>>
>>14159670

what? our modification laws are nazi as shit. technically you need certification for just about anything that differs from oem specs. that and wof inspections every 6 months for anything pre-2000 or 12 months for post-2000.

>cops dont care if you hoon as long as you are well away from the main roads and theres no traffic.
cops in this country are nazi as fuck when it comes to modified cars, i honestly don't know how the hell you formed that opinion. they will fine you for anything they can, i've been on the receiving end of this but nowhere as bad as others i've known over the years.

that said though, jdm imports are relatively cheap, and lots of our state highways are pretty fun as long as you're not stuck behind a truck or something.

Sorry to hear that mate.
Even in Wiltshire they have reduced to national speed limit areas to 50mph everywhere.

Blame Medicine Hat police for setting up cameras in the middle of fucking nowhere, where they don't protect anyone or anything. Fucking cunts.

The other thing I noticed going back for a few days was the general lack of young people. Used to be filled with boy racers with modded corsas and the like, but there seems to be none of that up there now.

I live in Northamptonshire now, and although all the fixed speed camera's have been turned off, it's actually not a great place to drive.

>constant police presence

>become one of the main commuter points for Londoners wanting a place in the countryside
>pot holes

Last decent drive I had was in the lake district. I should just spend a weekend up there again.

>Good grandfather laws (old vehicles exempt from new rules)
>Emissions is mostly by city/county, so you can live in an area without emissions testing if you want
>Gas is cheap compared to most of the world
>V8's in everything because we can
>Plenty of rural areas to hoon in

>Medicine Hat

fuck that place, lived there for 4 months and got my first and only speeding ticket within a week of moving. Pic related, there was a cop hiding behind one of those mobile signs pointing a radar gun at traffic. Here. Protecting the shit out of those empty fields.

>speed cameras
These wont affect your insurance premiums because there's no way for them to prove who was actually driving the car at the time, so you're just paying fines in the same way that you would pay for a parking ticket. The only speeding tickets that will affect your insurance premiums are when an officer actually pulls you ever and looks at your actual drivers licence.

Worst are Switzerland and Germany. Best is obvious.

A little down the road, where it goes from a 70 to a 50 zone for no reason, is where I've gotten a couple. Not a fucking thing around for half a kilometer.

I lived in Medicine Hat for half my life. It has everything you need while still feeling like a small town, but good GOD is that place boring as fuck.

>parking/speeding tickets don't effect my premiums

Oh, thats good.

pretty much. roads really are fucking horrible due to the freezing and thawing and most end up having to get repaved every 3-5 years or even more often depending on the area. i've seen fresh roads completely fucked after only a single winter

Your friend is a fucking idiot to pay that much just for insurance. $700 would be car payments, insurance and operating costs for my 2014 wrangler for two and a half months.

In Ontario of all places.

That and the fact that they use a 1/4'' of asphalt and wonder why it gets wavy as fuck. If they did it right the first time they wouldn't have to re-do it every 2 months.

Most Subaru's are in a higher rate group than most Ferrari's, add in a driver with no driving experience and there you go. 700 a month is way too fucking much though especially for a 4 cylinder shitbox.

I traded in a 2002 Impreza wrx for my Jeep I only paid $180/m for that hunk. Brand new jeep is even cheaper and with better coverage. Course I was over 25 when I bought the impreza.

inb4 fairytales that modding your car is illegal in Germany, insurance costs ten thousand bucks and gas is ten bucks a gallon when in reality we have some of the lowest insurance rates, registration taxes and speeding fines in western Europe and the world's only highway with no general speed limit.

Don't move out west. Other than Vancouver, the west is filled with Canadian cowboys and forests. The west is a shitty place for no-lifes and oil rednecks.
