Why does this exist, apart from making tree hugger boomers who have never owned cars themselves, happy?
>>
That's exactly why. So that carbon producing monsters can still be made.
>>
>EU Regulation No 443/2009 sets an average CO2 emissions target for new passenger cars of 130 grams per kilometre. The target is gradually being phased in between 2012 and 2015. A target of 95 grams per kilometre will apply from 2021.

And that's why I'll never buy a new car. Here in Germany they already introduced a new tax system in 2009 which earned new models much higher taxes compared to 2008 models with identical emissions.

And if I ever buy a classic collector's car it'll be from before 1970 because those don't need an emissions test at all.

It's simple really. CO2. Isn't an issue with cars. People that say this is the issue are retarded. We have trees, we have alternative forms of energy to offset this.

The real problem is NOx. This is what CATs are for. To burn off the NOx.

The real question is in the EU why aren't diesels regulated the same for non-industrial use?

Why is there a displacement tax, when there's not a tax on cars with Turbos?

Not to mention, for some vehicles, having more displacement makes them MORE efficient. An anemic car pulling around a heavy car, isn't going to be efficient, and going to burn more fuel, and create more NOx.

And for all these people going

You may want to check the conversation, at no point was it said or implied that limiting the car to 2mph had anything to do with emissions. Was English comprehension an elective you didn't take as it clashed with pottery?

>Just be aware if you ever go to china, and show them a picture of the US wilderness, they'll tell you its a fake, because the world doesn't have that much light.

>burn coal so you can refine fuel to burn again
>wahhh dem elerctics run on coal mane! its turble!
Plus, you don't have control over what a refinery does, you can always put solar panels on your roof.

>nb4 angrily assumes I am a liberal

Not a samefag. Where your electricity comes from is half the argument. In my area it's mostly renewable energy. Hydroelectric, wind, solar etc.

The real problem is that creating lithium Ion batteries is really dirty, and takes a shit ton of energy. Not only do they have to mine the salts, which are only Nevada, bolivia, or chile, in a specific parts. then it has to be brined,

Not to mention new cars, with the aluminium(Which also takes a shit ton of energy to make) and all the manufacturing processes
>>

>aluminium
Fucking britfags.

>Nevada
Pretty fucking convenient for Tesla, mane. Likewise Chinese sources to plants throughout asia. But yeah, I guess it's hard to compare when no mining goes into fueling a conventional car oh wait.
>>
>>14159600
>Britfag
Implying I'm not sitting in the glorious PNW.

>But yeah, I guess it's hard to compare when no mining goes into fueling a conventional car oh wait.

The point is there's still one more piece you have to manufacturer that takes an exorbitant amount of man power, and energy. Not to mention it leaches into the water supply.

And I can bet you Tesla doesn't get their lithium from nevada. No doubt chile and bolivia because they can get it cheaper because they don't have the environmental bullshit the US has.

Using American sources is definitely in the gigafactory plans, though. As is running entirely off of renewable sources.

A DPF only reduces the size of particles, where previously you were able to cough them up they now penetrate further into your lungs as the body has no defence against small particles (or fibres, etc)

Anyone who chooses to take it off can, but it's good that the millions of normie cars are being smog controlled. It's literally a non-issue.. it's only 4 bolts.

The ash gets incinerated or decomposed depending the type of filter.

I just don't have the energy to explain stuff to morons.

Modern DPFs aren't as shit as the first generation ones were, and providing the auto manufacturer putting them on isn't shit to begin with.

This is the original exhaust from a BMW 520d that has covered 150k miles. look how clean it stays.

A diesel engine that is running poorly is torture to drive behind, they fucking stink.
>>
>>14163465
Diesel soot is a road hazard as well because it restricts visibly greatly increasing your risk of an accident.
