theres a reason why american made junk doesnt get sold in europe.

because the few that GM tried to sell, failed miserably, mostly because they're simply terrible cars

a lot of people dont know that the ford explorer was actually on sale in the uk. in about 10 years ive seen 1 on the road

honestly, im from england and i like it. not because its technically good (because it isnt) GM reliability, stupidly thirsty lazy motors and such, but i still like it, mostly because of the looks i guess, and since it's something unique, you dont see many SUVs around, and especially the explorer, to me its quite iconically american

but they are cheap, might still buy one for the luls
>>

>Explorer
>Technically good

This is why Ford shills are Ford shills, no actual experience with the cars they're shilling against. My dad has a 4.0 V6, and the entire god damn car is a pile of shit outside of the V6. Lost the trans just after 100K miles, replaced all 4 wheel bearings twice, back up alarm randomly goes off, door ajar chime randomly goes off, AC long since quit working, and even with the rebuilt auto trans it doesn't like to get into gear. This is a car that has been taken care of, no rust, interior is in decent shape, and he never abused the Explorer. It was simply an A to B vehicle. His K10 Blazer that was 20 years old when he sold it was more reliable, and his 1992 454 Sierra has never had an issue.

Also euro brands here are considerably more expensive when it comes to entry level than anything made by US/Jap auto makers.

im not sure what you're saying, i said the explorer was NOT technically good
>>
>>14153521

Oh, I thought you were saying it was good

Sorry for the wall of text then. For what it's worth, the 4.0 V6 will probably last till the end of time if you're okay with a shitty auto trans
>>
>>14153526
but i agree with everything youve said

similar thing happens here (uk) people who dont know shit about cars always telling me to buy old fords (fiestas/escorts/etc) their reasoning is - "its the cheapest they've the most popular cars around anon"

when i point out that it's probably because they break constantly and rust away the soonest, but have a good marketing campaign for people who arent interested/ or dont know much about cars they just ignore it

Trucks, SUVs, and muscle cars. Seriously that's it. Americans don't really buy a lot of small cars from domestic brands. The Japanese have that nailed better and they make better small cars than Europeans. Trucks are what we're best at and trucks are what sell here.

European automakers suck at SUVs and trucks save for Land Rover and Mercedes, but those are a lot more expensive and not really middle class vehicles.

Believe it or not, there are people who genuinely like cars from the American brands.

Also, there are only a handful of economy brands from europe that sell in the US. You don't see Renault, Puegeot, Dacia, or any of that over here. The only two you're really likely to see are Volkswagen and smart. Most other euro brands that sell here are luxury, the biggest being Mercedes, BMW and Audi.

As for why people buy American, well thats a bit more difficult to answer because the answers are varied. Some buy because they are brand loyalists, some feel patriotic when choosing their cars, some just like the offerings better, and some just aren't very big car experts and go off of word of mouth.

in the southern united states there is some kind of illusion or myth that people have that if you buy a BMW or VW it would be harder to find a mechanic to work on it. There is also the notion that if you buy a ford or GM anyone will be able to work on it. Same goes for parts, Ford and GM parts are super cheap in the US and VW parts are over priced here.

You better be because after vans that's the one market you haven't lost to captive imports yet. Enjoy your Fiat I mean Ramvan and your Transit.

Nigga, the new Cadillacs top at everything now! Also reasonable at price too.
