Live in a wealthy area, have a good relationship with the service writer/manager, work on a make where you can flag tons of hours by doing nonstop major services (Toyota, Honda, Ford, any big brand it's possible), work a lot, be good

Being an auto tech sucks dick

Generally heavy duty tech's or diesel tech's can make more money with less hours and better job security, I have seen them start at 80,000 a year salaried and if you want you can always move to an oil producing area (Alberta, Alaska, etc) and make bank. By the time you finish your ticket oil should be back up.

Own a shop and make it wildly successful

Good luck nigger. Just spoke with a heavy duty mechanic from cat finning who was layed off. Working for Kaymor now, we blew a turbo on one of our generators and he had to swap it out.

But im pretty sure he is sucking dick on the side to make ends meet.

Literally this
Or open your own shop
Otherwise you're fucked

Not sure what the going rate for Mechanics in America but being the US of A I would guess fuck all.

Based off Aussie rates and my wages as a Tech I'm going to say not. Diesel Fitters earn better money, Auto Electricians make really good coin.

And unless you stay in the industry long enough (10 + years of work/study) with a dealer and get to the position of Master Tech wages are pretty average all around.

Average rate for a qualitfied Mechanic here is about 25 dollars an hour, Master techs pull 35+
