I can't really make out the damage too well from the pic but I'd try to fill the cracks with bondo, sand it, then prime and paint it.

Get a sodder gun, and instead of sodder melt some plastic off another source and apply it to the inside of the guard to glue tit shut. Careful not to melt through the guard, and then apply a small bit of paint to the crack itself.

You can also carve a "v" into the underside and epoxy it. I would epoxy some kind of support to the back as well. I've fixed a few with this method.

If you don't have a heat gun you can pour some boiling water on the dent and push it back out "use a damp towel on your hand when you push or you will burn your hand"

Also if the crack is in a textured area don't use bondo, you will get a flat spot

yes you have I've owned a 95sentra that I traded in for a 99 maxima that I traded in for my 04 xterra and I have litterly never had a problem with any of my cars
the sentra killed spark plugs and the xterra had a mandatory timeing belt change but that's been the extent of this. my mom still has a 95 sentra with 450000 miles on it and she barely changes the oil ever 20k

Oh I thought it was split all the way. Just get some flexible plastic filler, clean it up, scuff it fill it, and finish sand. If you paint it instead of Berliner use a sealing primer or the filler will absorb the paint and look scrappy. Also you will need flex agent in the paint or it will crack and or flake off.

What's wrong with the second gen? I drive a 2005 mt and love it so far. High teens - low 20s mpg, plenty of room to haul tools and camping gear. Very capable to get out to my cabin and through the snow we sometimes get in Wi.

The transmission issues I've seen have been due to radiator fluid leaking into auto trans, or something like that. I have the manual trans, so I don't think this applies to me.

I took that piece off of my Xterra, if I didn't throw it away years ago I'd mail it to you. Truck looks much better without it, less mallcrawler plastic-y. It serves literally no function other than appearance. It got tossed along with the plastic mudflaps and flimsy sidesteps when I upgraded tires. It's all just extra crap hanging off the bottom to snag on the trails.

Don't use bondo on plastic. You could try to fiberglass it from behind first for strength but that's extra money on top of color matched paint, bondo, sandpaper, etc.
You could repair it with plastic welding or a soldering iron, if you know what you're doing and want to spend 1-2 hours sanding it. Repaint the entire piece, if you do a good enough job everything else of the front end will look like garbage in comparison.

Go to a you-pull-it yard, I'm sure you could replace the piece for less than $50. Don't be a little bitch.
