Outside of the super duper special type r 90s hondas, correct. OP is not going to find one of those, and even then, he can most likely find something better still. With an MR2 he's getting MR, that's a huge bonus already, and with a miata, he's getting double wishbone suspension combined with light weight and rwd. Sure, he could buy an early 2000s honda, but that's a fucking commuter car with a garbage suspension setup and nowhere near as much aftermarket support, not to mention a very small enthusiast community, where as everything in the world has been done to miatas and documented. I'm sorry you're probably trying to rationalize purchasing an econobox for yourself, but if op wants a fun car, he rewlly, really should stick with a dedicated sportscar platform. Power is easy to add. Tires are easy to change. Brakes are easy to upgrade. Curb weight, weight distribution, suspension design? Not so much.

Yes but barely. You're gonna spend at least 500-1000 on tall guy mods, most of it on 1 good racing seat that will have you sit much lower than the ones ripping foam out of their seat. Then you'll want a smaller steering wheel. The rest costs no money, visor delete, armrest delete, center console delete.

Now your car has less weight, fits you like a glove, and will brace you in the corners. Stock miata seats, in every single generation, are not good in the corners.

Aus fag here, had a 5kish budget(on road, so car was no more than 4k), you can get alright na mx5's, dc2 vti-r's or flogged gc8s that have been written off

Gc8's are the most powerfull but do feel heavy, especially in the steering
Owned an na mx5, good little car, more inconspicuous than a dc2 (I found), motor isnt quite the b18c3(I owned a 1,8) and they are stupidly noisy
Now I own a dc2 vti-r, love the motor, great feeling and desu I love driving ff, the only problem is the stigma around hondas and mine with a mugen wing stands out a lot(they look pleb with anything less than a type r wing)

Define what you want better.
I generally differentiate between "fast" and "quick"
I use quick when referring to acceleration and fast when referring to top speed.
Fast? Literally anything and a tune, but you want quick so we'll try.

Are quick but high maintenance. Upgrades are cheap and you can easily push one past 300 HP for under 10k.
I live in anti-fun carville, there are two srt4 neons for sale around me, both are over 8k, but have been tuned. So I guess it depends on the area.

More likely to find one of these, pushing it past 300 goes about the same as the srt4 neon. Doesn't have as much physical aftermarket and Ill-fitted hardtops are the bane of any fun car.

I dunno about these things at all, but they're cheap.
Don't know much about any other car in that price range, I always looked with a 10k hard budget so most of the things I look at are more than you want.
