german "quality"

>The results of the nitric oxide tests carried out by environmental group Deutsche Umwelthilfe (DUH) and German state broadcaster ZDF - who broadcast it on December 15 - appeared to show similar discrepancies between "test mode" and road conditions to those found in Volkswagen cars earlier this year, revelations that triggered one of the biggest scandals in German automobile history.

>In response to the report, a law firm representing Daimler, which owns Mercedes, sent a letter to the DUH that read, "Should you in any way present the accusation that my client manipulated its emissions data, we will act against you with all necessary sustainability and hold you responsible for any economic damage that my client suffers as a result."

>The law firm, called Schertz, also warned the DUH against publishing the letter itself, but the group defied this and posted the letter in full on its website. "How are we supposed to do our work as a consumer and environmental protection organization when industry forbids us from making public certain threats it makes?" an outraged Resch added. "I think the threat itself is borderline legal coercion."

>The discrepancies were not small. While all three cars kept comfortably below the European Union's legal nitric oxide limit (180 milligrams per kilometer) in the lab, out on the road the BMW recorded 428 mg/km (2.8 times its lab result), the Mercedes hit 420 mg/km (2.7 times its lab result), and the VW Passat reached 471 mg/km (3.7 times its lab result).

>"We haven't heard anything from the KBA about Mercedes. We haven't even got a confirmation from the German authorities that they have received our report," said Resch. "Interestingly enough - the EU Commission, the European Parliament, and some foreign governments are all highly interested in our tests.

also new model mercedes are no longer CARB complaint, so all you califags better get a refund before the DMV asks for your plates back
>>
>only VW fudged its reports
>well fuuug
How long until ETA focuses on Ford GM and Dodge?
>>
>>14106661
Car companies do this so that you enjoy a more powerful, more fuel efficient car.

Only complete fucking retards care about vehicle emissions when china and india pollute so badly there are fucking seasonal brown clouds covering large chunks of our planet.
>>
>german ''quality''

I think you mean ''VW quality''.
Also, VW it's the german GM.
>>
>>14106695

Dodge is Fiat now, and the only cars they actually sell (those little Fiat things) are probably emissions compliant given their small size. GM isn't competent enough to make a computer that can lie to the EPA.

Ford is 100% emissions compliant, because Ford watched CAT get mouthfucked by the EPA and CARB over the same stunt (lying on emissions tests) a decade ago
>>
When everyone cheats, is it still cheating or are the rules just not realistic?

some are better at cheating than others

for example, Fiat will never be taken to court in the US because the current EPA director is catholic

oh look, more cars that aren't CARB compliant

imagine how great it must be to be a wrecker in California right now
>>
>>14106724
Should be pretty obvious when tests are showing 0% of cars from all over the world passing.

It'd be like the US government demanding NASA build a single-state-to-moon vehicle by 2020 for only a 5% budget increase and then getting mad when they fake it
Like what the fuck did you expect
>>
Germanfags BTFO
>>
>>14106861

the EPA's tiered regulations are meant to drive innovation, or at least that's the official excuse behind it

though in light of this, it makes me wonder if congress will actually cut down those policies before US companies get caught in it too
>>
>>14106887
Pfft, the EPA want to drive innovation while increasing the cost of a new car by fucking 3x.
After all, if koenigsegg can make their 5L V8 meet all euro emissions targets why can't ford?

Nevermind that koenigseggs turbos cost more than an entire mustang

It's just stupid. Electric cars will take over in 20 years anyway, let internal combustion go out with some fucking grace.
>>
>>14106923

>Pfft, the EPA want to drive innovation while increasing the cost of a new car by fucking 3x.

that's how they want to make electric cars a thing

I never claimed it was a smart idea, just that it's the one they roll with.

>Electric cars will take over in 20 years anyway

only if battery tech improves greatly, and more importantly people continue buying new cars in that time. The latter isn't a guaranteed especially since the economy is still shit. And Tesla's plans for the next five years are pretty much fucked because oil is so low due to larger political issues they have no control over.
>>
>>14106961
Battery tech is set to change pretty largely very soon anyway, google 'lithium-sulfur', there are already things being powered with prototypes now, in 10-15 years the technology will be workable.
>>
>>14106980

Sure, but can it compete. If the average person isn't buying new cars in the first place, how is something exotic like electric cars going to get big? And as long as gas prices remain low, people won't by switching in the first place.

>/o/ talks down on emissions restrictions and catalytic converters for years
>many even drive pre-cat cars or purposely cat-deleted cars and advocate cat deletes to others
>suddenly cheating the emissions is worse than the holocaust when /o/ can use it to bash German manufacturers
>>
>caring about emissions

faggots
>>
>>14107126
Only the retards on /o/ remove cats.

They're another point of tune (EGT) and a muffler.
>>

This.

Fucking retards.
>>
>>14107135
>only retards remove cats
now ive heard it all
>>
>>14107126

Agreeing with the meme frogposter.
Shit is wack. Who gives a fuck if they failed some emissions.
Actually makes me want to buy a shitty cheap volkswagen that failed emissions. But I don't want to own german trash.

Probably the only big reason why people are making a big deal about this though, is because gas jokes and Germans are A+.
>>
>>14106738
>catholics are jews

You what.

hello Bernd :3

>How long until EPA focuses on Ford GM and Dodge?
Outside of trucks, how many diesels do the big three realistically sell in the US?
>>
>>14107169

That chevy cruise diesel?
Maybe? Do those even sell? I dont think they came manual.
>>
>>14107165
kc tier
>>
>>14107126
Probably because it gives them another excuse to talk down on VAG trash. They're making it easy.
>>
>>14106661
well it may be more "harmful to the enviroment" but they still make amazing vehicles and you cant contest that.

>vw gti owner

Meanwhile in 4chan.gook:

>amerifat piggus not comply with own emission! they dare criticize superior Chinese factory!

Damnliar*
>>
>americans cheat on regulations
kek nigger engineering murrifats get fucked

>japanese cheat on regulations
chinks btfo they'll never match superior kraut engineering

>germans cheat on regulations
THE REGULATIONS ARE FUCKING RETARDED, GERMANS DON'T DO WRONG, IT MUST BE O'NIGGER'S FAULT

never change germany
>>
>>14107169
Don't think you get a pass if you only sell diesel trucks.
>>14108246
Get off the internet dad.
>>
>>14108314
>Get off the internet dad.
No son.
>>
>>14106708
You're pretty stupid. Emissions eventually affect the whole planet but a large part of it stays where it is for a long time. Ever notice why smog in big cities is a lot better than it used to be? That's because vehicles in those cities pollute less than they used to.

>>14106724
The Japanese didn't need to cheat. German engineers just need to get gud.
>>
>>14108459
Lets be clear, diesel exhaust is some nasty shit. Much worse than gasoline.
>>
>>14107135
I removed the cat on my skyline. It shoots fire now

what you gonna do about it fuccboi
>>
>>14107157

emissions failure = car isn't CA legal = CA DMV has you mail your plates back and you have to get your car towed anywhere
>>
>>14108515
>living in California
>>
>>14108515

Jesus Christ, I'm fucking glad I don't live in california.
I've got an "off-road" exhaust on my car, I don't even dare drive to that side of the world.
>>
>>14108515
This is wrong.. you get a certain amount of time to fix it.
It's called a temp registration.. you ever seen those red squares on the back of shitboxes? That's what they are.

You never have to mail plates back.. even if you car is inoperative and wrecked and salvaged you never mail plates back. I don't know where you're getting your lies from.
>>
>>14108524

it's even better when you realize that the CHP can now do spot emissions checks at traffic stops, and that they do setup emissions checkpoints now to ensure compliance

it's mostly done to beaners, so that the police can arrest them for being illegal immigrants and impound their shitty trucks (you know, the ones where the shocks are completely fucked because they keep overloading it like the retards they are)
>>
>>14108566

You get six months otherwise the DMV rescinds your registration and you mail your plates back. Remember back in 2006 when all this shit went down with dirtbikes?
>>
>>14108566
Also this isn't just California. Half the states in US have emissions testing.
>>
>>14108573
And iirc roadside testing was what put those researchers onto VW diesels
>>
>>14108582

California has the California Air Resources Board though.

>how does that matter

CARB is like the EPA but more stringent. And they have power in CA because they were setup by a ballot prop (like everything bad in CA is).
