I had a E36 325i a few years ago and never had that problem. IIRC it only affected really early models, so generally for BMWs (or any car really) by one of the later versions of a model era since they'll have found and fixed all the problems. So avoid the E36s from 92-94.

It's decently fast stock ( 13.5 1/4, 5sec 0-60, rwd, 275rwhp ) and can get to the mid 12s and 340-350rwhp for about $1.5k.


On top of that everyone loves it. I get compliments on it all the time everywhere. Every girl that's gotten in my car compliments it, little kids on the street yell nice car and fellow car enthusiasts on the road always talk. Especially how it sounds - exhaust isn't stock though.
