i don't get it, all the cars at my local track are like 911s and ferraris, how do the average /o/ poster actually get to the track and not get completely destroyed?
>>
>implying the majority of /o/ doesn't own 4 cylinder, 20 year old shitboxes
>>
spend 500 bucks on a car and the rest on LS swap
>>
>>14085002
whats wrong with that
does it have four wheels? it can compete
>>
>>14084992
>/o/ doesn't go to the track
get more money op
>>
>>14084992
Where do you live? At an average track day at my local track, about 1/3 are Miatas & Toyota 86es, 1/3 are Mustangs and Camaros, and 1/3 are 911s and Corvettes. There might be one or two supercars.

open track days aren't racing
>>
>>14085157
open track days dont even exist anymore.
i dont know when this fucking fad of "track day promoters" came around but its fucking retarded.

>$195 for 4x25 minutes sessions at generic club level race track
this shit has got to stop.

what happened good old fashion open practice days with a gate fee.
I can go to pala motocross track and share the track with pros practicing for the national outdoor series, but I can't go to buttonwillow and have a practice session without paying some dweebs 200 dollars for an hour and a half of track time. reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
>>
>>14085186
this
its fucking ridiculous
and people wonder why people do shit like street racing
>>

>Living in SoCal
>Whining about paying $200 for a track day that's only a hour away
>Not mentioning open track days at Adams Motorsports Park every week

God I fucking hate you socal faggots meanwhile in the northeast we're paying $400-600 for open track days that are 3-4 hours away
>>
People are usually at the track to race the clock, not each other
>>
>>14085002
Mine is a 19 year old 4 cylinder shitbox thank you very much.

Different issue altogether, but it has to do with the cost of running a track.

>>14085243
gets it, you can't get "destroyed" at an open track day, most organizations even frown upon you getting in any kind of battle if you aren't experienced
>>
>>14085208
adams is shit man. it's a kart track. even 12hp TAG cadet karts (age 8-12) are faster than cars around that track.

plus its time attack so you get 40 seconds around a tiny little track where youre in second gear the entire time and then you sit back in line again.

and on track days theres like 5 groups.. 5 fucknig groups.. thats why theres no track time. there only needs to be two groups. slowfags and then everyone else. point bys are so fucking retarded. I came to drive not hang out at the baby sitters club.

honestly I just want to go back to karting i wish i wasnt 6'3
>>
>>14085002
Strong reading/10
>>
I don't know about the track you frequent, but the ones in Ferraris and Porsches are regularly the SLOWEST people around. Like, doing 1:40s in a 996/997 while people in clap trap EG Civics do 1:20s

That's life in Vancouver for you though.
>>
>>14084992

Build something fast and learn to drive it. My open tracks usually have 2 sessions. Track day folks and racers trying to practice. The track day cars range from built Civics to mostly stock Camaros, Mustangs, Corvettes, Vipers, Porsches, and so on. Sometimes there is a super car. Usually the more expensive cars are the slowest. The guy in a Spec Miata goes out there and drives it 11/10ths on the actual racing line and beats the Viper going 4/10ths at best with sloppy lines. Last time I ran 4 20 minute sessions in the street car group and never had to give a point by. Most of the time I was in traffic following guys in more powerful cars with too much pride to give a point by when I could corner way faster but only keep up or fall a bit behind on the straight.

How bad would I get destroyed taking my 370z to the track? Stock except for the exhaust.

>tfw want to go but feel like I'll just get laughed at

at least it isn't an frs though
>>
>>14085398
you wouldnt get destroyed because no one is racing and no one cares anyway. they have groups for noobs. everyone is just having fun and trying to get better.

irl is nothing like this board if thats what you think.
>>
>>14085398
nobody will even notice you are there unless you drive like a moron
>>
>>14085186
I aint paying for that shit when i have all this touge in my backyard
>>
>>14085398

There's really 3 main things to consider. How hard are you going to drive it? How good of a driver are you? What sort of tires will you be running?

If you can run a 370Z 5/10 with a good grasp of the fundamentals and you're running a hot 200 treadwear tire, r-compound or slick you'll probably be closer to the top 33% of other street cars.

If it's your 1st track day, you're on on a street tire other than a hot 200 treadwear deal, and you drive like most 1st timers then you'll stick out like a sore thumb and a mostly stock Civic with 90 hp, good tires, and a good driver will most likely show you up.

Racing is a rich man's sport, predominantly. But a 2nd gen CRX with a K20 turbo setup and a proper wheel and suspension setup would at least keep up. Also, even the fastest cars can't put down good times if the driver sucks ass

Simple. People with high dollar cars are afraid to drive them hard.

I bring my Cavalier to a track day, flog the everloving shit out of it at 10/10 with no fucks given, and keep up with 911 GT3s driven by people afraid of getting a speck of dirt on it.
>>
>>14087129

Gingerman
High Plains
Road America
Autobahn Country Club

Probably several more I'm not thinking of

>>
>>14087129

Where do you live? There's a track within 3-5 hours one way of most places in the Midwest or Great Plains. If you aren't prepared to drive at least 3 hours 1 way then just kill yourself.

Even if you live in bum fuck states like Oklahoma, Nebraska, Iowa you've got good tracks like Hallett, Hastings Motorsports Park, and Raceway Park of the Midlands.
>>
>>14091015
>>14089679

This.

You must live in South Dakota or North Dakota because all 10 of the other Midwest states have a road course.

Street legal events are nice because there are tons of ricers you can beat, but as soon as you go into the knockout stages you get "street legal" cars that run low 9's and high 8's.
>>
>>14091015
I live 15 minutes from Hallett. Went there on a random weekday when it was closed and he let me take my F-150 around it lol.

I wish they would fucking repave it though and re-do the curbs. It needs a renovation.

Road America (WI)
Milwaukee Mile (WI)
Blackhawk Farms (IL)
Autobahn CC (IL)
Gingerman (MI)
Grattan Raceway (MI)
Putnam Park (IN)
Mid Ohio (OH)
Mid America (IA)
Gateway (IL)
National Corvette Museum (KY)

Unless you live far west, there are more than likely at least one of these tracks within a few hours drive. Gateway and Milwaukee Mile are the only partial-oval tracks on there. I'm sure that list is incomplete as well.

Man, you guys are fortunate to even HAVE a track within a few hours of you. This is 1 of 3
(paved) tracks in Saskatchewan, and the other 2 are the exact same shape. The closest track to me that has anything more than 4 left turns is ~10 hours away.

Hello fellow Reginafag

http://www.rallywest.com/

time to build a rally car m8.
these are actually really good turn outs for regional racing.
>>
>>14091808

Not the guy you responded to, but I live in Saskatchewan and I've always been curious about Rally West stuff. Is it accessible to beginners at all or is it fairly high-level?
>>
>>14091813
idk i just googled saskatchewan rally lol
looks like most of these events are still pretty far away though. most are in calgary ~7 hours.

anyway, they have a novice class
>>
>>14091851

Just read about the Class D rally. It's /o/'s wet dream - the cars have to be more than twenty years old, two-wheel-drive, and displacement can go up to 5.1L. Seems like it could be a hell of a good time.
>>
>>14085002
Mines a 29 year old 6 cylinder shitbox thannks.
>>
>>14085338
I hear ya man. Plus all the idiots that park on both sides of the road that semis regular pass through.
>>
>>14091119

Not officially. But Gateway is just across the Mississippi river in the St. Louis on the east. Heartland Park is just across the border from Kansas City on the west (although it is temporarily closed). Raceway Park of the Midlands or Hastings Motorsports Park serves the northwest corner. Hallett serves the southwest corner.

>>14091127

>Three hours is too long

Well, then your're a shit head. I've occasionally driven 9 hours one way to go to tracks, but I got to tracks that are within 3 hours more often.
>>
>>14085338
