Why not contribute to the economy and buy/lease a new car? Buying and driving 20+ year old used shitboxes is degenerate behavior and negatively affects the economy. There is literally no justification for not buying new.

Unless your parents tell you about credit, no one else will.

No one in my entire life ever told me about credit, ever. I never heard about it, never read about it, did not even know it existed till I got my first student loan.
>>
>>14081562
and even then I only learned about loans, not actually credit cards, credit scores, or building credit.
>>
>>14081446
I think I've seen that exact car parked in Redwood City, CA near the intersection of Woodside Rd. and Middlefield.

Also when I can buy a used car that will last me 2 years for 1/20th the price of a new car that will last me 10, I have multiplied my expected value by a factor of 4.
Also, since I turn over vehicles more frequently I get to drive a far wider variety.
Also, since they're cheap to the point of disposability, I never worry about one getting wrecked or stolen so I drive them hard and park them anywhere I want.
>>
>>14081562
>>14081565

You have to pay attention to the world around you m8. Anyway it only takes a few years to pull your credit out of the shitter, so don't despair. When I was a stupid 20 year old I had a score of like 520 after making some shitty decisions. A few years later, paying my bills on time, I was deep into the 700-800 range.
>>
>>14081446

I totally agree, who cares about depreciation anyway right?

name 2 situations where a broke high school student or college student would learn/be introduced to the concept of credit/credit cards/building credit unless someone told them about it?

I'm at 650 after a couple months, but still, if you have people around you who don't tell you certain things you might not learn for a while?

I learned when I went to get a cell phone and they said "your credit is shit man, you need good credit to get a cell phone."

Were you out of college before you got a phone?
>>
>>14081610
Most kids parents give them a cell phone in their teens, even a shitty one. They get used to it and don't question getting a new one unless it breaks.
Even then, upon hearing the term down payment (pay money you don't have), most don't even try to get a new phone. Someone just gives them an old one.
Smartphones weren't a big thing while I was in school.
It was just calls and texts.

You shouldn't care about other people, or the economy. As far as you're concerned, you're the only sane creature in the universe. And when you die, the universe ceases to exist, because you're the only one able to perceive it. It is logical to be egotistical

You don't think that schools should teach kids how to safely invest, or how auto loans/home loans work? Even touching on student loans, before most of them go and get into tens of thousands of dollars in debt.

One of the major reasons it doesn't exist is because schools have focused on what's on the standardized tests which determines funding.

I 95% agree, but sometimes taking out a loan for a home is necessary. You need to live somewhere and with a home you'll see most of that money again when you sell, also the payments stop after a while.

Exactly. Only difference between the corolla and prizm is the styling. I prefer knobs over sliders, though. I owned a Prizm, it was a horrible shitbox, but at least the way it drove, it felt real. Going into a 2003 corolla now, the electronic gas pedal is just too fucking finnicky. I either go too slow from a dead stop, or I wind up spinning. Gotta work on my sensitivity, I guess. Weird though since I drove my mom's forester back when I was learning, with an electronic gas pedal, and had no issues with sensitivity.
