ok, so I just got a ticket for rolling through a stop sign. Here's the catch: there is no stop sign at the intersection because it was ripped out maybe a week or two ago, the word "stop" is marked on the road but im trying to figure out if the sign not being there is enough to dispute the ticket.
Also I live in NZ
Appreciate any advice

It says stop. That's enough. You're fucked.
go with a paint thinner and something rough and mark up the STOP thats written on the road as much as possible. take a picture of it from your car as youre rolling up to it. present in court that due to the lack of a stop sign and insufficient road marking you didnt stop.

The yellow limit line alone is enforceable, sorry anon.
(I work in traffic management in NZ)

contest it.
TAKE PICTURES
go to court.
let the judge know that you where driving there for the first time, didnt think there was a stop sign.
might get off with a lower fine, or dismissed.
I'd contest it. Cop knows the sign is missing and uses it to write tickets instead of trying to do something about it as a safety precaution.

Suck shit kiwi, pay the fine.

This.
It is your fault for not stopping if the STOP paint was clear, but these types of cops need to eat shit.

You're fucked. If that wasn't there you could probably fight it. I got a ticket for going straight through a turn only lane that was unmarked and the judge told the cop to shove it up his ass.

Even if you blasted through several stop signs doing 50 in a 25, a traffic lawyer could make the ticket go away. If you represent yourself, you will lose.

Nah your fucked, the yellow line on the ground means stop. The sign doesn't need to be there.
