I actually repo'd wheels for awhile in Austin, TX. Really shitty job. You wouldn't believe the type of debt these people get themselves into. No shit I have actually had to chase down a tow truck because the repo man for the car came the same night we were there to repo the wheels.

No good stories come to mind right now, just a lot of stolen roll-on tint and wrenches. And typical "customers are idiots about cars" type stories.

Had a guy buy a rebuilt engine from us (a 1970 LT-1 reproduction, 11:1 compression, solid lifters, and camel-hump heads, pretty much the highest performance factory-spec 350 that you can buy over the counter), installed it in his donked G-body Pontiac himself, then immediately drove the car to our store with no oil in the engine. And it wasn't like "oops, I forgot to fill it with oil." He drove it in to ask us what oil to use.

The same guy ran 87 octane and complained to us that it pinged and dieseled. I did mention the engine was 11:1 compression, designed in the era of leaded gas when regular was 95 octane and premium could be 105 or higher. Of course pumps were rated in RON back then instead of AKI, so that'd be closer to 90/100 in todays ratings. I digress.

We never could convince him to buy even Arco 91 octane, he was just too cheap (but he could afford a new engine...) Every once in a while he bought a bottle of octane booster. He recognized that the octane booster made it better, but thought premium gas was a rip-off... go figure.

Back to donking... Most of them just use a shitload of those twist-in coil spring boosters to get clearance for the big wheels, instead of doing a proper lift. That why they drive so slow over bumps and in corners; hit a pothole or a driveway too hard and BAM they pop right out, maybe putting a dent in the fender on the way.

I also used to make a little cash on the side wiring amps and subs for these guys. And by "wiring" I mean hooking black to black, red to red, on cables that were already strung and equipment that was already in the car. Which for some reason no one could figure out.
