Sup /o/, looking for paintwork advice.

Bought a car that needs some touch ups and I'm wondering if there's any good products on the market for doing so? It'll need Ford Panther Black paint.
Any good tips you can pass on to a noob?

Pic somewhat related, the scratches I'm on about aren't as deep.
>>
You'll never fully hide it without painting an entire body panel.

Depending on the scratch your options are either to make a spray line with a rattle can or dab in paint with a brush. Afterwards, polish and hope it blends decently.

Good luck, black is by far the hardest color to hide imperfections.
>>
Well OP here's what I'd suggest. Go watch AMMO NYC's video on paint repair. Larry is a good dude and shows you how to do it.

The basics apply regardless though. Sand, clean, apply glaze or filler (depending on the depth of scratches), sand, paint, wet sand, clear coat, wetsand, buff.
>>
you can do it without doing the whole panel but it will probably not match well.

but if you want good results you still have to do it the same way you would do a whole car.

>sand
>primer
>block sand
>color
>clear
>polish

just filling it with touch up paint will look ass.
better than a scratch though I guess.

How much would it cost to respray a panel?

>>14063839
I'll write that down, cheers.

The rear bumper, grilles, and basically anything plastic that was black has faded. If I lightly sanded these plastic bits and sprayed them black, would that blend in or stand out?

Sounds like the time I fixed a guitar scratch with black nail polish... looked fine as long as you weren't in the same room as it.

Can't really sand the plastics. They're textured 99% of the time and sanding would remove that which would make it look really weird. If you're not against reapplying things, Chemical guys and various other detailers make dressing for that. CG brand is called back to black if I'm not mistaken.

Also if ur feeling frisky, you can get a more permanent result using a heat gun. YouTube "heat gun on plastic trim" or something similar.

not him, but honestly this is what i would suggest. go to the junkyard and grab a cheap panel or just a piece of it. scratch it to resemble yours and then try to repair.

if you're happy with the results then you can try it on your car.

this way if it looks shit you wasted money but you didnt ruin your car + waste money.

I tried various different Back to Black sprays and rubs and found that they only lasted around a months, maybe two. The heat gun method sounds interesting, I'll look into it
>>
>>14063936
Cheers fella that's a good idea
>>
>>14063943
I've never tried this, but you MIGHT be able to spray black plastidip on the trim with good results. It dries somewhat textured, and its got that matte look. I've used the stuff plenty of times, just never for trim.
>>
>>14063893
trim paint maybe. ive heard good things but never used it.

wont work on the plastic painted part of a bumper obv, but it will work on grills, window trims, bumper trim, etc.

i saw a vid on toms turbo garage he used it on a galant and he seemed happy with the result. and he seems to be a detail oriented guy so if it looked shit he probably wouldnt have done it.

>>14063915
do you do all the steps or just fill it in with a brush?
the nail polish type touch ups on paint always look trash.

>How much would it cost to respray a panel?

Well if it's like the scratch you have pictured, it's an entire door and rear quarter of a car. Probably right around $1000.
>>
the results ive seen from heat guns are uneven and noticeable. i wouldnt do it, personally. i would either get a plastic dye kit or use trim paint (probably basically a dye in itself more than its a paint)
>>
>>14063984
A dye kit sounds like it'll do exactly what it says on the tin, cheers mate.

>>14063975
Well that sucks, it's as if it's a specialist job or something
