Are auto companies fucking retarded? You can't see shit with these candle-lit headlights. Not only has xenon been around for over a decade, but we're well into LED/Laser technology as well. The fuck?

Oh, right. Jews.

More shit that needs expensive repairs, yay!

>>
Newer is not better, OP.
Any decently designed halogen headlight is more than adequate.

Besides that, the warm white color temperature of halogen light is generally much more conductive for seeing contrast than shitty cool white garbage xenons or LED - and dazzles oncoming traffic much less.

The only really good arguments you can make for Xenon, LED, and Laser over Halogen is that they last longer and use less power - so it's a bit less maintenance and a bit less gasoline used, and it's easier to develop adaptive headlights for them than it is for Halogen.
>>
>>14038850
There's nothing wrong with halogen headlights and we aren't 'well into' LED headlights. Expect LED headlights to become the new standard, though.

>Halogens will be stock

Meaning XENON/LED will be an upgrade, for which you must pay extra.

How do you not understand that automakers are a business, and that they wish to make money? Your kekish obsession with stupid shit like LEDs will grow these companies to epic proportions. Buy into the gimmicks little goy, keep the machine going.

I work in the lighting industry (for buildings but whatever) and LED is still in its infancy. While we are moving further and further towards it becoming the standard it will be a long time before the price of LED matches that of halogen or flourescent. It's getting closer, and it's becoming easier to justify the cost, but for now seeing incan lighting isn't surprising.

Fucking lol, some people are absolutely pathetic. It's not even like a base model Toyota where you get a shitton of stuff loaded into the vehicle.

>I gotta have that BMW badge

Does anyone even think BMWs are impressive anymore? I feel like they're so commonplace that even posers and wannabes know a 3 series is just a worthless piece of shit.

LEDs for consumers are actually pretty affordable now. Picked up two 60 watt replacements for $6.95 CAD. Supposed to last years.

CFLs are shit, always have been. They were a terrible stopgap measure between EVIL incandescent lighting and the messiah of energy conservation.

Yeah it's a pretty stripped out model, which is fine. I like the "leatherette" fine, finding a 6MT was a gift from god, and I'm glad it doesn't have iDrive which is shit. The only things they paid for were xDrive and power heated seats.. seems weird.

I didn't get it because I'm a badgewhore, i test drove about 30 cars before I decided I liked the overall driving feels of an E90 over everything else.

I like the stock headlights in my S2000. As long as the lights illuminate the road ahead of me so that I don't crash, I couldn't give a fuck about what bulb is used though.
>>
>>14039084

wow you are a shitty bench racer

do you not understand that having LEDs means you can TELL people your car has LEDs? i mean, LEDs are SO impressive, they're like the NEWEST thing and totally haven't been around for over 2 decades in normal mainstream use

>BUT NOW THEY'RE IN CARS SO IT'S A NEW THING
>>
>>14039070
>but still they're cheaper than originals
The reason for that is that they're slapped together bullshit.
>>
>>14038900
>dazzles oncoming traffic much less
The reason people think this is because you always see dumb hick fucks with their riced out trucks with them. They just swap in the xenon lamps without changing the housing and don't bother to tune them so they point down at the road properly.
It doesn't help that they're all lifted too.

>>
>>14039129
It isn't just trucks, far too many people get ebay HID light kits for their cars and know nothing about adjusting or setting up headlights.
It's people doing things like that to their cars and trucks that have places actually banning replacing the headlights with a different type (can't go from halogen to hid even if you do it right).

>>14039276
Having driven a Model T, cranks are fun as hell. Plus, it's anti-theft that can break the fingers or wrist of the person trying to steal your car since they don't know how to properly do so.
On a serious not they'd be awful on a modern car, but throwing new shit onto a car before it's developed enough in that application to be reasonably reliable is not great for the average consumer. Better to keep the finicky fancy things to the really expensive cars to start with and repair them with the required services the car gets anyways.
>>
I don't think i can go back to halogen lights after having LEDs. They're just so much better.

>>
>>14039808
Yup thats them. They look pretty neat and they are miles ahead of the halogens I had on my civic. I think LED really does make a difference. And if the lights fuck up you just swap the whole assembly, but I doubt they would need replacement for at least 10 to maybe 15 years.
>>
>>14039838
Honestly you'll probably have to replace the whole luminaire due to UV damage before one of the LEDs dies. Enjoy it, bruh.
>>
>>14039772

>>14039063
Confirmed for living in a shit southern state. Heated seats are a godsend for those who live in colder areas.
>>
>>14038850
Manufacturers use halogens to save cost. The thing I don't get is why base premium cars like the 3 series have halogen lights. When you're paying like $40k for a car, even if it's a base model, it should at least have better lights than a Yaris.

>>
>>14039979
>Mine conform to my state's vehicle code
I doubt that. Even if they did, I doubt they are FMVSS 108 compliant. There's more to good lighting than brightness.
>>
>>14039939
America has different options for BMWs than Europe. Our base 3 series is the 320i, but most people here consider the 328i as base (I'd say about 85% of 3 series here are 328i).

Europe's base model 3 series is a 318i that puts out 136 HP. It's closer to a Corolla than a 328i.
>>
>>14039991

You don't have the 320i or 323i in the US? We have them in Canada.
>>
>>14039998
>You don't have the 320i or 323i in the US

No. Lowest model is the 328.
>>
>>14038850
Most of it is because the US has retardedly slow to update regulations, and that's why none of the fancy german car laser auto headlights are sold here, even though they're better. We were stuck with sealed beams until 1984 when the rest of the world had flush composite headlights, which is also why popups were popular.
>>
>>14040020
>Most of it is because the US has retardedly slow to update regulations
No.
>>
>>14040018

The E90 325i was in america.

http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/bmw-325i-short-take-road-test
>>
>>14040028
But it's true bud.
>>
>>14040028
If that's not true, feel free to provide a source. Until then, remember that European cars started having composite headlights in the 60's and our laws prevented them from selling those here without replacing them with shit sealed beams until 1984 when Ford pressured the legislators to allow them, even though replaceable bulb-style headlights are much better.
>>
>>14040018
This isn't true, I've seen F30 320is in the US.

Also, technically the 328d that they sell in the US is actually the 318d or 320d (I can't remember) that they sell in the rest of the world, just re-badged.
>>
>>14040052
That's why I said technically the 320i is the base, but most people consider the 328i (2016 330i) the base.
>>
>>14040106

>They sell the 320i but arbitrarily i've decreed that the 328i is the base

this doesn't make any sense anon
>>
A better complaint is, why is plastic still being used? We went from glass, which will work well forever through anything short of completely shattering it, to plastic that fogs up and is ruined in a few years. I'm sure a better glass lens could be made nowadays.
>>
>>14040182
It's cheaper and slightly more durable when rocks are involved.
>>
>>14040221
Also it weighs less and is more easily recycled.
>>
>>14040221
>>14040227
All fair points, though I wonder what all the advances in glass making that smartphones have brought could do about the durability.
>>
>>14040260
Using gorilla glass for headlights would probably be cost prohibitive, especially with how fuckhueg headlights are these days. They don't need to be more expensive than they already are.

High CRI LEDs have existed for a long time. They're used in video production because they replicate sunlight so well. Some nicer ones have ratings over 95. Its really hard to make a distinction when you get much over 80 anyway.
