>let car warm up for a little bit to full operating temp
>drive down the freeway at 60
>so fucking cold my oil temp actually drops 20-30 degrees just from the cold air flowing against the pan
>mfw
Who else /frozen/?
>>
Where on earth are you driving? I've never had or heard of this happening ever around here, even when the temperatures have been going down to -40

Are you sure you're running the right type of oil?

No

Do you live in fucking russia
>>
>>14016346
Alaska. Currently -20. Sure am.

>>14016352
> sits in heated garage all night

See above

In Ontario, where winter at?
>>
>>14016638

Strange... does your car have a dedicated oil cooler?

Also; you get this shit aswell?
>>
>>14016328
>cold air flowing against the pan
Don't you have one of these?
>>
>>14016660
someone put mustard in your tank?
>>
>>14016668

My first oil change when I bought the car... I think it had been sitting with the old oil for some time, as the car had been barely driven the past few years

Happens quite a bit with cars in colder areas where they go from hot to cold to hot and so on all the time
>>
>>14016666
wait, mechanics steal a part of MY car when they work on it?

also nice quads.
>>
>>14016643
I dunno. It's pretty nice still. If I had known the weather would be like this, I wouldn't have put my winter tires on. I miss my summer tires :(
>>
>>14016660
No and no

>>14016666
It's a sports car, so no super Satan
>>
>>14016328
That's what you get for buying a 1l econobox.
>>
>>14016767
It's 2l get it right faggo
>>
>>14016638
>not warm
That is correct.
The coolant may be warmish, but its not really warm. The block, head and manifolds aren't heat soaked yet, the transmission oil is still cold, and the oil is nowhere near operating temp.

This

Full fucking retard. The engine wears the most when its cold and by not driving it you're just making it take considerably longer to warm up
>>
what car has an oil temp gauge these days.
>>
>>14020162
No.. you're the retard.

If you drove it cold you'd be putting load and rpm on it. Which is why you let it warm up idling.
>>
>>14020187
You don't WOT or redline it while it's cold but you still drive it. Go read your car's manual before spreading misinformation

You're still putting heated stresses (combustion and exhaust) through a fully cold system. Yeah it'll heat up faster but that's still taking hundreds of miles off its life you dipshit.

you're legit retarded.

we let our race motors idle for 10 minutes before we start loading them.
please go back to /ovg/ or whatever containment thread you escaped from.
>>
>>14020197

I let it idle for 5 minutes then below Half of redline for the first 15 minutes of riding. This is a motorbike tho. Car is pretty similar.
>>
>>14020266
Thermal stresses are quite a thing...IDK about 100s of miles, but at the base concept that he more than likely doesn't fully understand, he's right.

It's more of a risk factor than a measurable time being removed
>>
>>14020507
mfw you are trying to act smart but dont understand why you let a car warm up

CLEARANCES
metal expands, cars are designed to run when hot, not when cold. higher clearances = more wear.

loading rings and bearings while their clearances are still high = more wear than low rpm zero load warming.
