where's the fucking black and gold oil
Shell Rotella. The best oil in my opinion. After 6K miles its comes out clearer than with other synthetic oils.
I stopped using Mobil One after I saw a study done with my car, it was compared to lots of other oils, but Rotella was the best.
If you are happy with your oil, you are happy with your oil.

I mean from my own personal experience and pretty much 95%+ of the guys at the 3si forums we use it for all of our cars. VR4 engines after 3K mile service intervals the oil comes out decently thick, which is a plus.
Most of the people there also use it for their track day cars. We all love it and use it in pretty much any car we all own. I even run that in my 2003 Jetta DD. I change it every 3K miles and in my mothers 2014 Civic I change it every 6K.
You could give it a shot if you have the chance.

>>13986372
You definitley want to have synthetic oil especially in high RPM applications. I would recommend 10 thicker than your OE spec oil as higher weight you go, better heat protection you get. I'm unfamiliar with miatas but I can tell you that synthetic oil acts very differently than conventional and is better suited for an engine that will see high RPMs more often. I wouldnt force an engine on conventional oil too much, fine for daily driving if you want to be economical but performance wise you definitley want to to use a synthetic.

my 350z is supercharged and I use 5W50 in it as nissan recommends 0W30, 5W30, and 5W40 if driving in weather above 10 degrees celsius, now since I only drive it in the summer and I push the engine hard often Ive read up that it's wise to use a higher weight oil for the enhanced heat protection. The only downside to heavier oil is the wear on the piston rings is very slightly increased than using the recommended viscosity but it is better for all your other bits (cams, crank, lifters, etc)

I don't drive the car insanely hard other than the occasional spirited acceleration to work the engine, but would any oil even last that long? What do dealers usually use their servicing that lasts the 15k between services.
>>13972500
Same. Always run T6 in the winter, T5 in the summer.
ITT: People who have no idea what they're talking about.
>I use Mobil1 because of the opacity. It's comfy and easy to drive.
I got my talon two years ago. Ran valvoline 10w-30 conventional until after owning it for a few months I started to actually do shit to it and read about all the good results/findings with rotella.
Switched to conventional rotella t 15w-40. Been on it since March 2014. Car made 380-420whp until summer 2015 when I changed some stuff up and was likely around the ~500whp ballpark until I just removed and sold my turbo a couple weeks ago.
Around 15k miles around ~400whp and 10k miles around ~500whp.
Have had conventional rotella 15w-40 the whole time except for driving it through last winter I went to conventional rotella 10w-30.
Still runs great. Compression is great. Oil pressure is great. Valvetrain and rotating assembly look mint. My 16g and HX40 I took off both still were in mint shape when removed.
Imo if nothing has happened due to oil brand by now nothing will happen due to oil brand.
When an oil change for my race car only costs me $12.99 for a jug of oil and $2.99 for an oil filter - I'm happy.
I'll be running rotella t6 5w-40 in my SRT4 with my first oil change.
>>13973175
I have a n/a subaru. calls for 5w-30. Want to try for summer since the logic is the thicker 5w-40 would be better under heat.
>2015
>not using graphite oil additive so your shitbox runs slicker than greased owl shit.
In all seriousness what does /o/ think of this stuff?
>>13993411
Good oil lasts longer. In my car the manufacturer recommends max oil change interval is 30,000km or one year. But the engine requires full synthetic oil with ACEA A5/B5 rating.
If you are using cheap blends or straight mineral oil they wont last nearly as long.
Have to run 20w50 because slow oil leak, car dumps it all out going up 10% slope sudden power loss and I have to pull over, hang int here buddy, you're getting serviced next week ;_;. Had to drive 200KM after that, get home and the oil's still on the full mark.
It's just viscosity isn't it? It dumped it all out because the engine got hot and oil became more fluid and found it's way out of the "slow leak"?
