Yes, it's beat to shit. I've always liked these for some reason. It's a 92, so no LT1. From what I've been reading online, the L05 is easier to work on, cheaper, and somewhat more reliable.

Got her for 1750, 103k on the odometer. Of course, it needs a lot, like brakes, full dash, some rewiring, and endless little things fixed, but I love her already. Missed driving a land yacht.

It also had an LT1, power everything (including heated mirrors and an auto tinting rear view mirror that actually worked) and I picked it up for a grand. Loved that car, but towards the end of its life it turned into a shit heap,and then I got the boned into a light pole.

L05 should be 210hp, 300ft-lbs. I have one in my suburban. Before you go spending crazy money on an engine, look into a rear end swap. 3.73 or 4.10 should be fun in a car like that.

I don't doubt you. Interesting that they would derate/detune the l05 for that application, however. I know that the literature for my suburban rates the l05 as 190hp for the 4wd versions.

If you want to hop it up, I'd recommend a vortec swap if you aren't in a position to spend money on tuning and what not. I've DD'd my suburban for 3 years now and it hasn't let me down. Still nailing down 15-17mpg. As anemic as it may be by modern standards, the TBI Chevy's don't stop. Good choice, anon.
