Hello /o/ , Britbong here.

Is pic related really the best way to get from Orlando to Miami?
Was thinking about going to Florida for my 21st birthday, which is 18 months away. And would a Chebby Suburbiton be an appropriate choice to haul around 5 people and 2 or 3 weeks worth of luggage, including this possible trip?

Tldr: Pic related good way to get to Miami from Orlando or not, Chevy Suburban a good rental for the trip?

Long distance driving/road trip general thread.
>>
>>13968750
Turnpike ftw. And eventually it runs parallel with I-95 so you can hop on I-95 if you want to get into downtown MIA and the beach.

It's not that long of a drive or anything. Gas is cheap enough, get the Suburban of you want.
>>
It's not long, its 4 hours of highway driving on the Florida turnpike

Be warned, people drive like assholes in south Florida
>>
>>13968750
Why florida, go to the mountain west or a national park or something not that humid shithole
>>
If you're going from Orlando to Miami, maybe you would want to take a little detour to the east to see Daytona Speedway and Kennedy Space Center.

Both good East Florida attractions.

Dont go to Miami. Go to Tampa Bay. Clearwater beach is way better than almost every beach at Miami, usually less tourists
>>
>>13968819

Hahahahahahaha.....
>>
>>13968750
Come to Daytona instead, it's lonely here but the car culture is somewhat decent depending on when you come.

Nigg you stupid as fuck, theres so many places to go there
>>
>>13968832
Confirmed- St. Pete is the place to go on vacation with your kids
>>
>>13968819 OP here

Hands are sorta tied with Miami, would be going with at least my girlfriend and it's one of her dreams to go there.

Though the entire trip is my idea because I've never been to the USA. Having a drink while the fireworks go off on my birthday (4th July) is a nice thing to look forward to.

Anyway blog over. Ish.

I've heard good things about the Kennedy Space Centre from family and friends, and Orlando obvs for Disney and Epcot etc.

And why would you recommend Daytona? What's special to you about it? Just curious.
>>
>>13968828
>more strip clubs than mcdonalds
>loads of hot chicks at beaches even during the winter months
>bars and nightclubs aplenty
>some of the finest hotels in West Florida
>there's even fucking race tracks and kart tracks around here

Now tell me why you wouldn't want to come to Tampa Bay
>>
>>13968855
Daytona is a waste of time unless you are going for a race or bike week.

North Florida is redneck as fuck. Do the Disney thing in Orlando and then go live it up in Miami. West coast is for retirees.
>>
>>13968865
>some of the finest hotels in West Florida

Nigga, you can go to Miami and have the best of everything in all of Florida. Plus King of Diamonds.
>>
OP again

I find it amusing that 4hr drives mean nothing to North Americans (and to a lesser extent, Australians) whereas 4hr trips in Britbongistan will take you from one end of the country to the other.

Is the difference in attitudes down to different car cultures? Or the sheer distance disparity that exists between the UK and North America / Australia? Or even both?
>>
>>13968866
>miami
>not dangerous as fuck and filled with tourists
east coast is the worst. Id rather party in the panhandle than go to east Fl
>>
>>13968855
>why would you recommend Daytona?

Its the mecca of car racing.

They hold several major races annually there, and there are car shows everywhere, especially the cars & coffee on the weekend.

Plus, you can actually drive on the beach there. Beautiful weather too.
>>
>>13968874
Im just used to having to take long (to you) drives. I commute an hour. If I were to go to Orlando right now it would take me an hour and a half which I consider a very short trip. Relatively far is going to Tallahassee which is about 7 hours. I dont think it has anything to do with car culture
>>
>>13968874
Yes.

4hrs is like a weekend thing. Leave for Orlando with the kids on Friday night and come back Sunday morning.

I would never consider flying for anything less than an 8hr drive.
>>
>>13968750
The turnpike is the most based highway in the southeast. Keep under 100 and FHP doesnt give a fuck.
Also gulf coast beaches are god tier. Atlantic beaches are literally shit tier.
>>13968883
This. You dont realize how fucking huge the state actually is until you drive from Orlando to Pensacola. That shit is over 8 hours its fucking silly. Its actually less time to go from Pensacola to New Orleans than Orlando to Jacksonville.
>>
I went to Florida with my wrestling team once. Everyone had $500 Canadian for two weeks. Stayed in shitty motels with bloodstains on the mattresses and one hooker murder. Watched the Leafs play the Lightning, got ambushed by gators on a canoe trip, went to Tampa strip clubs, got high and went to Busch Gardens, almost got mugged by two bix noods, could not believe how cheap the food was down there (send Waffle House up north please). Payed one guy to lose his virginity to a snaggletoothed hooker from Louisiana.

Was great fun, would recommend.
>>
>>13968911
>send awful house up north
Fucking gladly, I've only lived here 3 months and I still have trauma from that "well, I'm living in the south might as well try all the southern food joints" experience.
>>
>>13968903
I wonder if the police give less of a fuck if its a rental car?

Like do rentals have different plates to make them stand out compared to privately owned vehicles? (it was the case in Cyprus at least)
>>
>>13968911
waffle house is pretty good imo.
>>
>>13968750
Why the fuck would you want to go to florida?
>>
>>13968929
No, same plates.

And the Turnpike is a 70mph speed limit and you can see cops from miles away. I normally just cruise around 80mph and have never had a problem.
>>
>>13968929
Nope. Just dont act like a reckless ass and FHP doesnt give a fuck.
>>13968911
Fuck gators. Those fuckers think its a good idea to sunbathe on my fucking driveway. I just poke them out of the way with a the pole i use to brush my pool.
>>
>>13968911

Wew lad.

Sounds like you a whale of a time though.

Would be staying in a holiday house in Orlando, dunno about Miami because I dont know how many of us will make that journey. No bloodstained mattresses in shady motels for me.
>>
>>13968929
No, but they may have out of state plates as the rental car companies use cars from all over.

Some places cops like to pick on out of state drivers.
>>
>>13968926
I dont know how they expected us to wrestle a tournament after we'd just gotten a double burger with eggs and bacon on it with pancakes and hashbrowns for only five bucks. Every day for the last half week.

>>13968930
If they had those in Ontario it'd be 11/10 would lurk in hungover every morning.
>>
>>13968926
What gave you the idea Waffle house is southern food?

Waffle house IS only good when you're drunk.
>>
>>13968934

Because I'm a child at heart that wants to go to a Disney that so many of my friends went to as kids. And its my gf's dream (well, one of them) to go to Miami, hence this thread.

Well as a southerner to a yankee.

That isn't southern food, its typical American Diner, type food.

You want southern food? Go to memphis or hit pretty much any hole in the wall BBQ joint south of the mason dixon line.
>>

Ive lived in Japan and Florida. Never have i lived over a hour away from a disney park. Not to mention Ive never paid to go to any of those parks.
Ive gone to Disney World 113 times. I go to MGM for food. Its bretty gud.

>>13968969
Key West is bretty cool OP. Only thing that sucks is the fact that the speed limit is piss low and it takes about 4 hours to get to Key West.
>>
OP here, I would like to go to the Keys, but that's for another trip I think.

Will post plans for future NA road trip if this thread isn't kill tomorrow. It's on topic after all.

And on a Miami related note, other than the beach, shopping, and film history, what else is there or around there?
>>
>>13968855
Before you head to FL, make a thread. Orlandofag here, I might be able to get you cheaper park tickets. Also show you where to go for non-theme park shit in the area.
Kennedy is neat, but be prepared to roast. A lot is outside, and there isn't much shade. Bring sunscreen and drink loads of water.

I probably will make a thread nearer the time, thanks for the offer.
>>

Clubbing jeezy. Also lots of food from tons of different cultures. You can always head out west and get on a swamp boat for a day. Or rent a boat or jet skis on the ocean. Plus fishing. Hang out with PepsiFag. Casinos and horse tracks. Paddle boarding if you want.

>>
After making a trip to Florida, I totally understand why so many American's are fat. The kind of food you can get for ten bucks down there is like four times as much as up here, and its fucking delicious.

Be sure to take like $30 worth of quarters with you. The fucking toll roads in south and central florida are everywhwre.
>>
>>13968750

I do this drive every month.

My advice is use waze, because the FSP are like ninja's. They will hide in ditches, up on hills behind bushes everywhere.

also, Follow the White rabbit.

let a car thats speeding get way ahead of you, and match speed. If you see him hit brake lights, you do the same, cause he probably spotted a cop
>>
>>13969450
It's almost all "toll by plate" now, especially in Broward or Dade. So you go online and pay afterward.

Otherwise, there are only a couple of toll plazas between Ocala and Broward and they take cash and give you change.
>>
>>13968750

Take Turnpike to Ft. Pierce and in Ft.Pierce you would hop on I-95. They both run side by side the whole way to Miami so you can avoid tolls that way. Kennedy Space Center is pretty cool. Especially if you have never seen a rocket launch or anything space related that close. I like in Kissimmee which is next to Orlando so that is they route I take to get to Miami. I also work at a small theme park called Fun Spot America so when you come to central florida you should definitely go

The Turnpike is going to be your best bet. Be aware that some of the Turnpike near Miami uses automatic tolls by taking a picture of your number plate, make sure you figure out how the rental company will settle that. When I rented with Enterprise a few months ago, they just rolled the automated tolls into the final bill.

about 1.5hours north of Orlando there are some amazing natural springs you could visit and tube down. If you're going to miami I recommend trying to get an airboat ride in the everglades. Easiest way to find a place for airboat rides is to drive down US 41 towards Naples. Tbh you should also visit Naples and Marco Island. They arent far from Miami and are much nicer.

+1 that will save lots of money in avoiding the turnpike. My mom lives in east Orlando next to UCF and it's easier to take the 520 down to 95 to get to south Florid and avoid tolls entirely.

Btw OP, get a Publix sub. Not just any, but specifically a chicken tender sub with buffalo sauce. You can't beat that.

Go to KSC and check out Atlantis on display. Among the three orbiters on display (Endeavour and Discovery in LA and DC, respectively), it's the nicest display. I saw Enterprise when it was in DC before the move and it's not as nice looking a real shuttle that went into space.

Anyway, go to an Orlando Magic game. Tons of fun and affordable. Disney, Universal, Sea World, etc, will be fun. There's some good outdoors stuff in Orlando like Wekiwa springs like said before.
>>
>>13976774
There are airboat rides outside of Orlando on the way to Cape Canaveral/Cocoa.

Off the 520 I take to get to the beaches. No toll, pretty empty roads, can drive nice and fast.
