What is the ultimate anti-benchracing car? As in, a car that performs beyond what would be expected of it from its raw, on-paper stats alone?

any go-kart or motorcycle.

This, or basically any sub Ton kit car with decent suspension.

The Nissan GT-R is faster than it has any right to be when you take into account it only has 500hp and weighs as much as an iceberg.

The Chevrolet Cobalt SS Turbo.
Went above and beyond what anyone expected of it.

>People don't expect a car that weighs 2,000 lbs to do well?
People don't expect a car that low on power to do well.
I think that's the general rule for benchracing: people mostly just look at a very superficial level (i.e. power and torque)
>>
the fact that this thread exists and is getting responses is a testament to how shitty and bankrupt this board is
>>
>>13951637
Only if you blast eurobeat.
>>
>>13951640
And weight. I've heard so many benchracers say "OMG PIGFAT"

Which leads me to say:

Any car with a Supercharged Series II 3800.

Even the fucking fat cars like the Park Avenue and Lesabre can move with that power, plus that blower sound. If you cut away most of the shit weight, the sonofabitch can be made to corner okay for it's size and weight.

True, but a lot of people know the Grand National and GNX as a sleeper.

Bring up a seemingly normal Regal and thats where the fun begins.

Oh shit, almost forgot the Hurst/Olds. Another one people forget about.

Make it a "normal" Regal T-type. Same car, just without the blackout appearance package. Nobody will know.

Purists would hate hearing anything other than a 3800 in a Regal T-type.

That being said, I'd much rather see that in a Monte Carlo of the same generation.
>>
>>13951708
Eh, their power balances their weight. My buddy had one for a couple years and got bored with it. Great car, but an lt1 in a 4500 lb package is not going to beat much nowadays
>>

I would hate to take out a 3800T to put a
455 in it, but if it was one of the more common 307 platforms, then there's no question.

So would anyone with a brain, the Caterham is an actual track toy as they have a race class built around them. Cars like the Donkervoort make 0 sense to me, why buy a "track toy" that you can't race, and can only do open track days with?

i'd say e36 328i or 328is
runs high 13s-14s 1/4miles with basic suspension mods
not something you would expect from a cheap n/a 193hp bimmer
also it gets muuch better with an inlet manifold swap, a remap and some weight reductions
>>
>>13950641

any good looking classic car with a big engine
>>
>>13951922
correction - you can expect mid to high 14s with a stock 328i and mid to high 13s with suspension mods and engine tweaks.
>>
>>13951922
>runs high 13s-14s 1/4miles with basic suspension mods
Fucking Bullshit. They were a low to mid 15 second car. 14 seconds is about E36 M3 performance.
Still, 15 seconds for a mid nineties mid size sedan is still pretty quick.
>>
>>13951922
It's a sporty looking German coupe that's slower than a V6 Camry, it could not be less related to this thread
>>
>>13951966
the FRS runs high 14s to low 15s so...
>>
>>13951964
with the inlet manifold swap, custom air filters, plugs and a remap you can get around 230-240hp out of the engine, and with some decent suspension mods and weight reduction you can beat the us spec M3 and get mid to high 13s easily.
>>
>>13952008
So... what? You didn't complete your thought, you just ended it with some ellipses.
>>
>>13952041
oh and i forgot to mention you would need a custom/m3 exhaust manifold
>>
>>13952042
so it is decent for a cheap, unassuming, old german sedan/coupe

Maybe 200hp with those mods. You'd need the m3 cams to make anywhere near 230.

Bentley GT-3. Dam thing isn't supposed to be that fast, not at that kerb weight.
VW Golf GDI (and rebadges). Sure, it doesn't fully match a GTI, but you'd never know if you weren't at a track. Will run with a GTI in city traffic, despite lower power figures.
Volvo S60R is also surprisingly quick despite an 1800kg kerb weigth, and relatively low power for that amount of weight.
CVT equipped Honda Fit's are probably the faster car to 25MPH you can buy for anywhere under 25 grand.

In terms of disappointments, the Cayman GT-4 would be a good one. Porsche really outdid themselves on keeping it slower than a comparable 911, especially witht that rear end ratio.

m3 cams arent necessary. There is a local 328i with an intake manifold swap, custom air filters, a 68mm throttle body, ecu remap, lightened flywheel and he's making about 230hp and ~330nm.
