I'm looking at buying a 2010 Toyota Yaris with 45k on the odometer for 7 thousand. I've taken it to my mechanic to get checked out, and it looks good. Insuring it will be pretty cheap too. Anything I'm missing?

Kind of faggy little cars, but fairly reliable. The RS had transmission issues with both the auto and the manual, so be wary of that. Also, the exhaust system is prone to rotting out if you live in a snowy area.

Other than that, fairly good as a basic DD. The non-RS models are slow and boring as fuck, keep that in mind. Like, to the point that it will annoy you.
>>
>>13945319
Why do you want that vehicle?
Do you think an auto enthusiast board would have extensive knowledge of the 'Toyota Yaris'?
What does Yaris mean?
Do you have children, and/or a vagina?
>>
7k is a little steep, try to negotiate. They may look terrible but the Yaris is really quite reliable.
>>
Chienne en tabarnak (SLOWWWW car)
>>
>>13945319
Shit cars. Dat 4-speed auto, terrible interior, drum brakes.
>>
>>13945345
Reliability is what I'm looking for, so the rest doesn't bother me. Drove a 98' Chevy Cavalier for the past 7 years, so I'm used to poor performance. Driving a stick will be fun though.

>>13945351
I just figured a car board knows more about cars than I do. Something that I can put 100k miles on with no problem while getting good mileage is basically my barebones requirement. No kids, yes to the vagina last I checked.

>>13945365
I'm not a huge fan of the speedometer and etc being in the center of the dash, and it basically looks like a smartcar that got fat. But I'll keep the price in mind.
>>
>>13945319
I'm not going to give you shit about the slowness and fagginess of the car.

But its looks and build quality... ugh.

I guess Mini's and shit are out of the price range.

Why not get a 2012 or 2013 Mazda3 (first gen of the Skyactiv but didn't have room for the exhaust that gave better mpg) for like $8000-$9500?

Given that you can get a 28/40 mpg Mazda3 for around the same price, I don't know why you're getting a 2-3 year old Yaris.
>>
>>13945445
2-3 year older*.

>The RS had transmission issues with both the auto and the manual, so be wary of that.
America never got the RS until 2012+. American market 2012+ RS's are known as the Yaris SE.

All US market cars are 1.5L 1NZ-FE and either the 5 speed manual or 4 speed automatic.

OP they're endlessly reliable. Do it.

>>13945351
>Do you think an auto enthusiast board would have extensive knowledge of the 'Toyota Yaris'?
I like researching shitboxes. The Yaris has surprisingly large aftermarket support.

Build quality is good on the Yaris.

A Mini would be a nightmare, they're unreliable and expensive/difficult to maintain. Only BMW dealerships know how to properly work on them, and only dealerships with Mini trained mechanics.

Mazda3 is truly GOAT compact car, Civic can suck a goat's dick.
>>
>>13945484

Canada got the RS prior to 2012, I worked with a guy who drove a 2009 RS. That being said, it's unlikely OP will be looking at a Canadian-imported car.

I still maintain the problems with the exhaust, I know 2 people who have had to replace theirs just after 100,000km each. Can't even chop parts in, it's a single unit so you have to replace everything.
>>
>>13945520
>That being said, it's unlikely OP will be looking at a Canadian-imported car.
Even then, there's no issue with the transmissions like the one retard was claiming.
You know what the difference was between the RS transmissions and the normal transmissions?
Absolutely nothing.
>>
>>13945530

To be fair, you drive a GM vehicle and think it's a good car. Your credibility is fairly limited on pretty much anything on this board.

Plus you're gay.
>>
>>13945536
I said my Ion was decent, not good. It's reliable and quirky, which is why I like it. I never claimed it was good

Also
>not having a valid argument so try to ruin credibility with unrelated points.
>>
>>13945445
The only one I can find is the next state over. $9700 is more than a bit over my budget, but a 2011 with 87k doesn't seem bad. The problem is that state has a higher car sales tax, so I'd be paying closer to $3,000 more.

>>13945484
I like the Yaris for what it is. I wouldn't pretend I'm confident/competent enough to modify it though. The one I've been looking at is the 5-speed manual though.

It's like you don't even know that you should be transgendered. That's true bravery.
>>
>>13945550
Wow really? There's dozens and dozens of 2012-2013 Mazda3s with around 50k miles for under $9,500 within 50 miles of me. That sucks, man.

Why don't you contact the dealer and say you're out of state but would drive there if you can get it for $8500 out the door, with all fees included?

>>13945499
You're right. Mini's are too unreliable even if in the range.
>>
The price seems a bit high for a nearly 6 year old econobox. If you're buying from a dealer they are trying to fuck you (monetarily, not literally).

I guess the only other thing is to either pay in cash or get a loan from a separate institution other than the dealer.

Even if you were, there is literally no point. These cars aren't meant to be be for performance, they are quite literally throwaway cars. Investing money into the car that isn't needed for general maintenance is a waste.
>>
>>13945599

There's a difference between a throwaway car and a basic DD. The Yaris is a basic, reliable DD meant to serve a long life.

The Dodge Neon is a throwaway car, made cheaply and sold just the same. Poorly made, unreliable, and mean to be thrown in the trash when repairs outweigh its meager value.
>>
>>13945550
Also you pay your states tax no matter where you buy it. If they are charging you their states tax, they're scamming you.

They think bringing my sexuality into conversation is a way to discredit me.
>>
>>13945621
Come on man. They always put cars at least 10% higher than the price they really want.

Try it. You can just email their sales team. It's either they sell it for $8500 or they don't sell it.
Sometimes dealers even sell used cars at a bit of a loss because they're wasting lot space and you're still doing them a favor even when they do that.

I don't understand paying $7000 for a 6 year old Yaris, either way.

You are a cis-gendered male driving a domestic, gas guzzling car.

I mean come on, really. It's 2015. You need to be a trans woman driving an electric/hybrid import.

Stop ruining America with your traditional homosexuality.

>>13945644
That's not a bad idea. I'm mostly relying on Consumer Reports and Kelly Blue Book, I'm not as familiar with the ins and outs of buying from dealers.

>>13945599
>>13945611
I don't mean to do anything to it besides check the air pressure and get the oil changed regularly.

>>13945634

>>
>>13945754
KBB is made to the benefit of dealers and not you.

Just tell them you're out of state, and it's a bit out of your budget, but if they drop it to $8500 out the door including all fees that you'd travel there to buy it right away.
>>
>>13945550
>>13945754
What are the options on it?

KBB for buying from a dealer on a 2011 Mazda3 base model with 87k miles is $7,333.
>>
>>13945801
It's the 2.5 Liter Sport model. Probably what makes it that much more expensive.
>>
>>13945842
Ohh. That'd be a really nice deal at $8500 then.

Is it within 200 miles? That's not that far. Just see if they can give you a good deal.
That's so much better car than the Yaris. Have you even test driven the Yaris?
>>
>>13945866
It'd be nice if I could get them to come down that much, 8500 wouldn't be too bad. It's about 120 miles away, so I'd either have to drive the Cavalier that's on it's last legs or get a ride.

I did drive the Yaris. I've never felt like I was on autopilot as strongly as when I was driving it. And that was when I was trying to pay attention to how it behaved. Just kinda bland. But it would get me from A to B better than my Cav.
