Both were factory-built cars that run on the stuff. Pretty hard to find though. Wasn't a popular option.

Now, this only leaves the economical rationale of LPG being cheaper than gas/diesel. Now, yes, it's cheaper, but you'll pay up to three times as much road tax.

Now, because of that, LPG is only cheaper if you drive over 30-40 thousand KM's a year. Which means you 5K budget will get you ragged-down stationwagons with 300.000KM on the clock.

Anyways, neither were offered here iirc. Every LPG car in the Netherlands has a (mostly 1 off) professionally installed unit, not something offered by the factory. Well, not in OP's budget at least.

Go with methanol instead. 105 AKI, better thermal efficiency and much lower emissions than gasoline, and $1 a gallon in 300 gallon quantities. And all you need to make your car use it is double everything (you'll need twice as much fuel flow and twice as much fuel capacity).

LPG and NG is superior. Your engine will run forever, you can go 60k on an oil change, never any carbon ever. The industry loves it, but refeuling is tricker.
