Does Chevy still use the Allison transmissions on the HD diesels? Bacause that was the good thing about those. But GM so little shit will constantly break.

The allison trans in the silverado is allison by name only. It's not as tough as people would lead you to believe. Its dirtymax 6/ is a decent diesel engine but its a bitch to work on

The cummins is a amazing diesel engine witha great stock output. They tend to leak a bit and they have a dodge trans behind them so if you plan on driving it you might want to upgrade the trans first.
The powerstroke engines are hit or miss. the 7.3 is the one everyone swears buy but its a real stubborn cunt to start when it gets below 40 degrees and now you really cant find one that isnt beat to hell and back. The 6.0 is a piece of shit in general and doesnt like to be fucked with at all. The 6.4 is slightly better but if you plan on doing anything to it the first thing you need to do is stud the block so you dont rip the threads out of the heads.

back in tech school there were two kids that dumped a shit load of money in their 6.blows and they are actually amazing when you get rid of all the kinks they had, which obviously is a lot. also it takes a lot of money, the kid was 21 and had a decently paying job previous to going to school

ive only worked on a handful of durmax engines but the ones that come in are usually fucked beyond fucked
right now we have one in the shop that had a hole in the piston. not saying they are all shit but i just havent worked on one with a simple problem yet
duramax would probably be the last diesel motor i would want from the big three though
