Miata killer? http://www.fiatpress.com/press/article/117404
>>
>>13887867
Anything is a Miata killer. Even the toyobaru is faster around a track than it.
>>
>>13887881
I'm just saying in the sense of sport convertibles
>>
they better not get retarded with the MSRP

even with a turbo engine there's no reason it should be $1-1.5k more than the equivalent MX-5
>>
>>13887867
You do realize that's a Miata with a body kit

right?
>>
>>13887893
Fair enough. Anyway it should be slightly faster and much less ugly and girly than the Miata, which is perfect.

>>13887902
This
>>
>>13887902
With a turbo, it will likely be shy of $3000 more.
>>
>>13887903
That's fine by me so long as it's faster. Personally I think it looks better. Do you think it will retain Mazda reliability or gain terrifying FCA gremlins?
>>
Day one purchase. Not even kidding.
>>
>>13887867
>Miata killer
>literally a fatter miata with worse styling
>>
Its power to weight is actually worse than the Miata due to its added weight. The gearing is also longer, though the added torque may offset that. It probably wont accelerate any faster is the point. The dimensions are worse too, it is taller and has an extra 5 inches of overhang, mostly in the rear. This is too give it a bigger trunk. To me this shows this will be softer than the Miata as well, focusing on comfort. My next concern is the weight, primarily where it is. The only places it could be is the extra overhang and engine. Either way not good, preferable its on the engine.

The styling is polarizing, but no more than the Miata. I think they would both look far better with swapped hedalights. The Miata has a very happy face and smooth curves, but angry eyes. The Fiata had agrresive lines and face, but they gave it round headlights. Both cars look conflicting. Someone should make a shoop with swapped eyes.

On the plus side, its got a turbo. If the car isvat a similar price as the Miata, Im sure that will win a lot of people over. After a tune it should make a lot more power than the Miata. If only the Miata had a turbo version. Maybe Fiat will help Mazda with a turbo engine for a Mazdaspeed Miata. However, Mazda is making its own line of turbo engines next year so maybe it is unneeded. If the Miata had a turbo, made ~200hp from the factory and cost 32k with the club package it would be near perfect. This thing will be good, but I wouldnt call it a Miata beater yet.
>>
Looks like a retard child of fiat 500 and miata. I think this look will age.
>>
>>3887881
Faster around a track means nothing with these cars. The two cars take very different approachs to handling, appealing to different driving styles. The Miata uses a lot of body roll to gain extra grip, while the FRS encourages breaking out the rear to maintain speed through a corner. Depending on road conditions, driving style and the track one way may be faster than the other.
>>
I'd buy one to experience those exclusive and passionate Alpha Romero problems that Miata owners will be cheated out of. Plus the badge, which will make secretaries and nurses panties drop.
>>
>>13888231

...does the latter not outweigh the former?

I actually like this thing; I'd get one as a DD.
Reminds me of the fairlady Z (which a thread is already in catalog about) and it's a nifty little thing. I like the styling over the current gen miata, which reminds me of the marionette from Five Nights at Freddy's.

I don't care if it's unimpressive or I'm a faggot for it; I'd totally buy one for my first car, and it's the prettiest vehicle I've seen for that price tag.
>>
A more powerful Miata is exactly what the world needs.

really?

It has a lot more torque and it's only a tune away from 200hp.

It's a little longer, but the construction is the same.

WELP. Glad I didn't have faith in them to begin with.
>>
>>13890332
>Storage and passenger space as two relevant factors in a sports car
Can you try any harder than that? Don't forget to give two more points to the ND for better braking distance and turning radius. Oh yeah, another two points for getting better city/highway fuel economy, too.
>Transmition

Luckily no one is going to buy the thing so in two years you'll be able to grab a new 2016 that's been sitting on the lot.

I've seen 1-2 year old $28000 500s new and discounted to 19000-20000
>>
>>13891229
Its dumb because

>lap time, which tied but they gave it to the FRS
>
>>
>>13891233
>Can't detect sarcasm
>>
>>13891264
odd because the FRS is faster if you look at the C&D website:

3:18.6 Vs the Miata's 3:20.8
>>
>>13887928
The engine is 100% FCA
>>
>>13891238

Not him and I'm not too adept with bench racing but how would anyone even remotely be swayed by stock tire choice when looking for a new car or even comparing? Would it be nice if they had top dollar tires? Of course. Do I ever expect that? Absolutely not.

I'm much more inclined to decide based on things that will not change after a few thousand miles of spirited driving.

This is my biggest concern. Combined with extra weight, worse dimensions and worse looks imo I would hold out for a Turbo Mazda version. Mazda is supposed to be announcing a new line of turbo engines for the new CX9 at the LA show. Hopefully that means a new turbo Miata

Should use the base price for the BRZ. The Series.Blue only adds slightly lighter wheels and an aero kit. A base FRS/BRZ would destroy a base Miata around a track.

I'm still waiting to see how much you need to spend on the Miata before it can beat a base model GT86.
>>
>>13887867
You know what the FIAT stands for? Fix it again Tyrone.
>>
>>13891264
>torque, which the Miata has a better ratio

Alright, that just seems like grasping at straws. The Toyobaru has more HP, more torque, a higher HP to weight ratio, but a lower torque to weight ratio.
>>
>>13890332
>both get points for 6M "transmition"
>only one gets point for 3:20.8 "laptime" from god knows where

I didn't do the tests Car & Driver did, they tested both fully speced so it's only fair to use the price as tested on the lap.

Well, looks better than ND.
But then again, if i wanted the looks i'd just buy the NA.

The only concerning thing is the engine. Fiat's non-diesels are unreliable as fuck.
But whatever, i'll wait for a potential abarth edition and then i'll decide.
>>

Can it be called a miata killer if it is a miata itself? It's got a different front bumper and powerplant but apart from that...

>>13891600
The Miatas torque to weight ratio is better. Not that it really matters without looking at gearing or rpm

According to this warranty company Fiat engines are more reliable than Mazda engines.
http://www.reliabilityindex.com/manufacturer/Engine
Do you have any other engine reliability study which shows otherwise or just your feelings about the subject?
>>
>>13892950
Let's see... Would I rather have a turbocharged 4 banger with 160hp stock and easily capable of 200hp with just a tune, much more torque, a pre-existing aftermarket, and no evidence of unreliability besides "Fix It Again Tony" memes on /o/, or a naturally aspirated 4 banger with 155hp, less torque, and weird ass skyactive technology and super high compression that'll complicate aftermarket options and quite possibly reliability? And you do know that the first mod that any Miata owner does to their engine is turbocharge it, right?

This

Even the American spec with more power I bet is going to be the same speed or slower than the ND MX-5 while costing like $5k more.

It's over 100lbs heavier, and I bet it's softer and less rigid.
