Reasonable use of force is strayan law
The cops are probably doing anon a solid cus the abo was a cunt who violated parole and was gunna get sent back anyway. In most situations blindsiding someone, even if they are breaking into your shit is gunna raise questions. Cus the po-po view property as 'not worth protecting with violence', and expect everyone to be keks who pay out of their own wallet and fuck around with insurance rather than be proactive.
You're lucky anon. Very lucky

>>
>>13883913
I hear you can use force if you're protecting your family from an active threat, i.e. a burglar with a knife

otherwise the cops were probs just all "this fellas foghting the good fight against some abbo, can't keep him down"
>>
>>13883913
Only if the way you defended yourself is justified.

So you can't bash a coon with a 4x2 if he is unarmed.

But if he happens to have a knife, its perfectly fine.

Shit laws but thats how it is. They want us to all be potential victims.
>>
If some cunt spits on you, that is classed as a serious assault . So you can fuck them up without getting reamed too hard.
>>
>>13884019

Deal with this shit erry day

>(1) An authorised person may direct a person to leave public transport infrastructure if—
>(a) the authorised person finds the person committing an offence against a relevant provision; and
>(b) the authorised person reasonably believes the person may continue to commit or immediately repeat the offence.

>(2) If the person does not obey the direction, the authorised person may use force that is reasonable to get the person to leave.

However, we are recorded by at least a couple cameras every time we use force to remove someone.
>>
>>13884005
Mine vehicles are always flogged out and fucked. Don't buy a 2nd hand mine spec vechicle.
>>
>>13884035
Spit is common assault
Beatings are aggravated assault or assault occasioning bodily harm
>>
>>13884035

lolno, spitting makes no difference as a matter of law except if you spit at a cop or other public officer (ambos etc). You can't use force to exact revenge, this is why closed-fist strikes are never seen as reasonable by a court (unless its a cop doing it)

You may only use reasonable force which is necessary to repel an attack.
>>
>>13882697
Broken hand that didn't heal, can't open it fully and get pain in it. Couldn't find a job so went back on the certificates
>>
>>13884044
Serious assualt. As it is a biohazard. What if they have hepatitis.

Cops charge boongs with it all the time due to the coons spitting on them.
>>
>>13884053
Ok. I had a coon spit on me. I'm just a civvy and the coon got charged with serious assualt.
>>
>>13884069

Yes, it's a specific offence to spit at a public officer (police, ambos, etc)

If you spit at a random on the street it is common assault.

>(i) the offender bites or spits on the public officer or throws at, or in any way applies to, the public officer a bodily fluid or faeces;
>>
>>13884073

Then the police erred, it is not as a matter of law, a serious assault unless you are a public officer.
>>
>>13884086
>>13884073

Full list of conditions to make it serious assault:

>(c) unlawfully assaults any person while the person is performing a duty imposed on the person by law; or
>(d) assaults any person because the person has performed a duty imposed on the person by law; or
>(f) assaults any person in pursuance of any unlawful conspiracy respecting any manufacture, trade, business, or occupation, or respecting any person or persons concerned or employed in any manufacture, trade, business, or occupation, or the wages of any such person or persons; or
>(g) unlawfully assaults any person who is 60 years or more; or
>(h) unlawfully assaults any person who relies on a guide, hearing or assistance dog, wheelchair or other remedial device;

Alright guys, thinking of selling my '95 E36 328i (5-speed manual) for cheap.

You all probably know by now it doesn't run, been sitting since Easter now. At the time it just blew a pulley (snapped belt) so the alternator and water pump went out. I didn't have the money to fix it.

Then decided I couldn't justify fixing it with the reasonably high odometer reading. Be about $2000-3000 to bring it up to running nicely again.

250,000km on the odometer, M52B28 in there has somewhere around 140,000km on it. It is NOT one of the nikasil engines. Runs strong when it's on with no issues besides onset of VANOS rattle.

Needs:
rear brake light sensor switches
left door panel to be attached properly
power steering rack
clutch
and various general maintenance items

Got a box of custom made coil overs that were in the car prior to it's defect, would throw it in obviously.

It has the silly 19s on it at the moment, but I have some OEM 16s as well, just got a flat on one, so they were off the car at the time it broke down.

What's a reasonable price to ask?
>>
>>13884185
It's spread out over two levels and the exit's not on the same one as the entry.

Not to mention the top level is split up by other walls and shit and there's hardly any signs pointing to the exit (only found one near an escalator) so yeah...
>>
>>13884202
Because I like cars but don't know anything about them
>>
>>13884206
1k.
>>
>>13884184

So I had a car come in for a service, Noticed on the road test before starting the service that the clutch felt like shit. Could feel it slipping under mild load.

Put the car up in the air and found a shit load of gear oil coming out between the engine and the gear box. Removed gearbox and started to tear it down, the first photo it just the box without the outer case.

The second it with all the gear assembly and diff removed, the third is the Input Shaft seal that was leaking, then its just the box getting slapped back together.

Last two photos are the pressure plate and the heat marks from the clutch slipping and the last is the fucked clutch disc..

The gear box is from a i30 Hyundai

>>
>>13884233

2011 with 68,000KM on the clock
>>
>>13884206
Close to nothing.
It's a 20 year old car that doesn't run, and the body has 250,000km on it. There's no recouping the value of it unless you fix it or sell the parts.
>inb4 I know what I got
>if fond memories translated to money... I would have a few dollars, from back in my childhood
>>
>>13884206

Doesn't run and 250,000KM, you can buy a running manual for around 7K with the sameish KM's

MAYBE 4 or 5 grand if you find some idiot
>>
>>13884215
Soon you will, I started out not knowing anything, then I kept seeing dohc when looking for a car, it went from there and now I know all the internals. Still can fix shit though, no skill with diagnosing issues
>>
>>13884221
Nah just getting the feelers out on what's reasonable really. Working out if I should drop some cash into it first then try.

>>13884243
Body isn't too bad really, there's a crack in the rear body kit, but the common issue with the rear swing arms collapsing has been addressed awhile back. All the bushing were done not too long ago.

Thankfully I know it's not in good shape haha.

>>13884252
Yeah, it's claim to fame is the motor only has about 140,000 on it and is one of the warranty no-nikasil engines.

So long story short, it'd be worth me getting it running and tidying up the easy shit?

The clutch is the main issue with it. The CDV went faulty and started riding the clutch, blew it out really quickly. Not to keen on replacing it myself, but I suppose if I fix a lot of the small stupid issues it'd be a lot easier to sell as a running 328i with a dead clutch.

Mainly looking to get enough cash to start funding the replacement haha.
>>
>>13884206
1.5 - 2k considering it's a manual and a 328i. Also be negotiable, you'll probably need to settle for less than 1.5k.
>>
>>13884288
elaborate on what a nikasil engine is and why its bad please. i keep seeing it be talked about as being terrible but never what it is or why.
>>
>>13884290
I know what needs to be fixed to get it running fine again. If I did everything major except the power steering and clutch what would be reasonable?

If I went the extra step and fixed the power steering as well?

I want to fix enough that I can come out with 2-3k if possible.

>>13884294
The original M52s used to lose compression unusually early due to nikasil being used to coat the sleeves (correct me if I'm wrong). The original engine in mine lost compression somewhere around 100,000km. It was replaced with a new-engine under warranty at that point.

I've got all the paperwork for the engine swap somewhere around here.
>>
>>13884288

I didn't even see the clutch in the post for some reason, cut another 1.5K off that price man.

Selling a car with a dead clutch is nigh impossible.

You would be better fixing everything and trying to sell it then. Still wont get your money completely back depending if you can carry out the work yourself or not.
>>
>>13884299
Fix all the cheapest parts and then take a look at the more expensive fixes. If you don't want to settle too cheap you'll probably need to fix the car up entirely.
>>
>>13884299

Is the powersteering leaking or noisy?

Noisy you will need to fix, leaking just clean that shit up and fuck it off depending on how bad.
>>
>>13884307
Car cruises fine, it's just super slippery if you actually put your foot down haha.

>>13884312
Looking like this might be the best route. It's not that I can't, it's just making myself do it, you know?

Suppose best thing to do would be to swap that pulley and belt so it'll run again, clean it up, and start picking away at each problem over time.

I was going to fix it up and give it to my brother (turns 16 next year), but I'm thinking of buying him something else instead.

>>13884316
Leaks, but bad enough that if you fill it it'll drop all the liquid in the same day. Racks are about $300 and it's not a huge deal to swap them though thankfully.
>>
>>13884312
This, selling a non-operational car ain't worth it unless you are prepared for peanuts. People still won't buy it for a decent price unless the power steering and clutch are fixed too

If I fixed it up completely what would I be looking at getting?

Recap:
250,000km
~140,000km on engine
Box of coilovers and second set of wheels included.
>>
>>13884328
~5k from a wog
>>
>>13884319

Thats a serious leak, but if its easy shit like just pulling off the rear of the K-Frame and not a case of dropping the frame completely then yeah, just replace that shit

And if you lack motivation just set out to do one thing a day man, shits easy.

>>
>>13884335
if you're lucky.
>>
>>13884328
If prices I've seen on gumtree and carsales are anything to go by, probably 5-6k. The new parts and fixes will definitely attract buyers.
>>
>>13884328

6 to 7K for them online with the same KM's, probably on the 7K side if you have proof of work carried out and the interior isn't shithouse.

Speaking of Gumtree, I'm selling my old Gen 1 MPS wheels with tyres on there, and this chink emails me saying "hey you, you sell me wheels for 450 dowlaas"

They're on there for 650 so thats out of the fucking question. I go back to him saying "If you meet me at $550 i'll consider it".
He then comes back to me saying "No, dere other guy selling for 490, you sell. I no pray game."

The wheels im selling are OEM, so I look up other examples, finding the wheels he claims are "only 490" are without tyres on them, just the rims. I got KU31's on mine with 95% tread. I called his bluff and I haven't heard back from him.

Otherwise, Ford has no fucking presence here (saw one dealership all up), and just about every other nice car is either a high spec Mercedes driven by some wealthy housewife, a guy in a Maserati, a few GT86's (very few), a Toyota Century, Nissan Cedric or dated Rolls. Decided to do a good and proper holiday (seeing as I haven't been on one in over a decade) and take a month to go and see the everloving shit out of it. Have found that this is not quite enough to go and see everything at a good pace, although I am comfortable with the amount I've been able to see already.

They're cheap, heavy, knock-offs.

If you have any sort of performance car and you intend to engage in performance activities with your car, you should probably look to something better.

If it's just for show then go for it, if you like the look of them and they fit your budget.

The wikipedia article is just showing you an "ideal" circuit, with no supporting components or even anything to start the oscillator oscillating.

I'm not an expert on oscillators but there's a couple app notes;
https://www.maximintegrated.com/en/app-notes/index.mvp/id/5265

This website has some info too, and i've attached their example of a 32.768KHz pierce oscillator;

hope that helps

I frolick about like a tourist, because I am a tourist.
I hit up the Tokyo Motor Show (probably slid off the catalog here, search the archive or peruse an alternative /o/ board in a certain other place), and have been visiting tourist traps such as castles, temples and famous districts in cities.

I'm a little jelly. I've heard good stories about teaching English, although I hear it's a bit abrupt, as you're only allowed to speak English to the students once you begin. Will be a bit lonely, though, if you're not in Tokyo (and I doubt you will be), as foreigners are few and far between and English is typically known only in relation to how it applies to someone's job. I've found two competent English speaking Japs thusfar in a month.

Public transport is a mixed bag. I usually pay $2 to get from one side of the city to the other, with cash (not ICOCA or SAPICA or any other member card, which I'm certain is cheaper, definitely get one of these).
It's all private, firstly, and there are a bunch of providers.

JR Rail is the cheapest and most prolific. They offer most of the loop lines around major cities, plus a number of connecting lines between towns. They have a mix of trains (increasing in age and decreasing in technology as you get further out of Tokyo. They max out at about 85km/h) and these travel quick and efficient, and tickets start at about 120 yen and go up depending on how far you want to go.

After this, there's the subway. This is more expensive, I think starting at 180 yen for one or two stations (10 minute walk), and quickly going to 280+ for decent travel. I avoid the subway like the plague because of this, as a bit of walking and the JR lines typically get you everywhere.

There are also alternative providers who service small routes in rural areas (there's a short stretch of non-JR rail from a JR station to Mt. Fuji, for example), as well as new developments (I think Keisei run a sort of train/car hybrid with tires around the Tokyo bay; also quite expensive, and slow!) and express routes, and these tend to cost more but typically are used for special outings (for example, the Keisei express Skyliner train line between Narita Airport and Tokyo Nippori station; about $20 for the trip, but fast). There are also tram networks in some cities (Sapporo and Hiroshima come to mind), but I've never used them. I also haven't used buses.

In all this, there's no ticket inspection on most trains because tickets are bought at a machine, and then you use them to enter and exit gates at every station, and they're consumed when you leave a station. You can travel as far as you want on a ticket so long as you leave at the station you paid for, and there are of course fare adjustment machines for when you get the fare wrong, so it's possible to put whatever in the machine and fix it up when you get where you want to go, which is swell. I once lost my ticket and was waved through by the man at the service counter, so Japanese are very understanding here.
Tickets also don't dictate how you get somewhere, as you might have guessed, so that's up to you. Only a few express trains and the Shinkansen have reserved seats which you need to explicitly buy.

One challenge a foreigner may find is that some fare maps, particularly with non-primary JR stations, have no English, meaning you have to know the kanji name of a place to know how much to pay to get there (not a huge deal in light of the existence of fare adjustment). For this, get Google Maps for phone, plus their Translate app. With the former you can scope out where you want to go before you leave, and it should have the name on the map which you can look at even when offline. Otherwise, there is always an official rep on duty somewhere who will be happy to help and they know just enough English pertaining to their job to get what you ask for when combined with the station name of where you want to go.

When it counts, I've found that just about every train will have bilingual spoken announcements for station arrivals, first in Japanese and then English, but if you're on the ball and know where you're headed, you can make out the names in the Japanese announcements. JR's better trains (and some subway cars) have digital screens which do bilingual scrolling info about location too. EVERY station has bilingual station signs on platforms, and bilingual directional signs as well, which is excellent. What is not always clear is what platform you want to be on, as the directional signs usually denote end of line locations, so once again use Maps and ask around to figure out what line you want to be on.

A note. Trains get packed at rush hour. Usually 8-9AM and 5-6:30PM. You very realistically may get squashed like a sardine with people actively pushing on three sides of your body, but then again you may just be just close. I've found this is not a consistent phenomenon, but I have experienced serious crowding. Not a big deal if you're travelling solo, but be mindful of this if you have luggage. In Tokyo, JR trains come every two minutes or so so missing one isn't a big deal, and this usually goes up to five or ten in major cities further out, like Kyoto and Osaka.

Also another note. There are women only cars in some places and it pays to be aware of priority seating, as some old people, particularly women, have a powerful sense of entitlement as to what life should be giving them at this juncture (this is a shame, as others are enormously sweet and conciliatory and you can't help but go out of your way for them).

Travelling distances between major cities is cheaper by Shinkansen up to around $50 (for say, Kyoto to Osaka), and then after that, Jetstar and Spring Airlines Japan offer tickets at about $90 AUD that quickly become cheaper (and faster). Sure it's a hassle, but if you're looking at a $200 ticket (Hiroshima to Tokyo, for example) and 5 hours of train compared to $90 and two hours, the savings are obvious. There are reserved and non-reserved seats on these trains, and I usually find that they're about 60-70% full at any given time. The Shinkansen runs on time, all the time, no matter the weather, as do most trains, I've found. Normal trains usually give the reason for delays on electronic signboards, which is neat.

That's about it.

Only other useful tips are that 7-11's and post offices are your friend, as they're pretty much the only places that let you get cash out with a MasterCard or VISA, and a lot of smaller places won't take card (restaurants, hotels and convenience stores do, so you can survive) or only take rail cards (as mentioned before, SAPICA, ICOCA, etc.., which seem to be not quite just rail cards). Some places also do not take debit cards, which is strange and arbitrary (particularly road toll booths).

I have had trouble where some 7-11 machines would arbitrarily not accept my MasterCard, which allegedly got support last in this country, so I'd suggest getting a VISA card if you can. Would also suggest getting something like a Qantas Cash card (a frequent flyer card doubling as a proper credit card with pretty reasonable terms) and to put $100 or so on it for emergencies.

Oh, road tolls are sort of cheap. I've paid maybe 500 to 1000 yen for one when driving long distances in expressways over Hokkaido. Would avoid if I could, but they really are faster and people usually blaze down them at 130 (even in snow. It seems every shitbox is driven like a GTR. Limits incidentally range between 70 and 80).

Also, avoid Jap satellite navigation, no matter what it says on the tin, they're never English enough for a Westerner to actually use and demand Japanese character input or phone numbers, which can be bewildering. Bring a Garmin if you're wealthy or use location services with Google Maps.

Also also, there are taxis everywhere. Flagfall is usually between 550 yen and 800 yen, and they're okay value. Drivers are very polite and I have had a driver take me beyond what I could pay for free which was astonishing. Some cabs take card and some do not.

So yeah, that's about it. Honestly, as long as you have a backup card or are diligent with emergency cash, you'll be fine and will get the hang of the nuances and tricks of public transport within a week.
