I got rearended while I was at a complete stop in gridlock highway traffic by a dumbfuck about a month ago.

It took them a month to get my car fixed. The damage really wasn't that bad, but it ended up costing $10,000.

Before the accident, my car was worth $17,000~ private party. How does something like this impact the value of the vehicle? Is it completely shot?

the guy's insurance paid for everything and the car is back in pristine shape.

Is your title now salvaged, rebuilt or clean?
Did you go through a dealer?
What is your car?

Title is clean, dealer did all the work, it's an Audi A4. I owned the car in full prior to the accident.
>>
You're fine then.
Of course. Only Audi would charge that much for a fucking bumper

Supposedly, according to someone at the shop, the "lead technician" forgot to check the seat belts after they finished and they were "locked" and needed to be replaced. they (allegedly) fired him over it, and that delayed the process and increased the priced. The trunk lid was also damaged.

How did you get the work done at the dealership? I thought the other persons insurance always tries to get the work done at jimbobs bargain auto shop so long as it's "certified" or whatever.

They approved the original estimate and the supplemental work.

>$10,000. Before the accident, my car was worth $17,000

something is wrong here

any reasonable insurance company would have called that car "totaled" because repair costs are more than 50% value of car

I think you got screwed pal anybody looks up your car in those accident history sites will pass on buying it

Insurance companies have to fix vehicles to pre-accident conditions. Chances are they had the dealership do it because it was more replacing expensive Audi parts then it was straightening body panels and other things a body shop would actually do.

Lots of confusion and misunderstanding in these posts. This is what happens after an accident-
1. adjuster looks at the car, to record the damages and decide if it's an obvious total
2. you get an estimate. You can go wherever you want for an estimate and it's up to you whether you agree to it. The insurance company may recommend a certain place but you don't have to go there. If you are smart, you go to the most expensive body shop in the area and make sure they know that you expect the job to be perfect
3. The insurance company settles with you for the estimate amount you agree on (if it's not a total)
4. If you so desire you go get the car fixed. You do not have to go to the same shop that you got the estimate at. The insurance company can not tell you where to go, this is illegal. At this point you go to a cheap bodyshop and get it down quick and dirty because it's an old Audi and will have no resale value anyway.
