Opel's been a part of GM since the 1920's. Also, all design of the Kappa cars was done in America. There were also built in America.

>But there's this one Opel version so they're all Opels, right?!
doesn't work that way. The Kappa cars were done by American GM the entire way.

I'm all for manual tops. They're lighter and it's less shit to go wrong on the car. However the Kappa design is objectively bad. Any convertible top that you have to exit the car the put up and down is a bad design. I shouldn't have to make a dedicated stop and exit the car if I decide it's too chilly/noisy/rainy for top down driving and if I'm sitting at a stoplight and the sun comes out I should be able to just unhook the latches, throw the top over my shoulder, and go rather than having to get out of the fucking car open the trunk, fold the top in, and then close the trunk. I see why they wanted to do it, but they fucked it up.
>>
>>13849391
You know that car is entirely unrelated to the Kappa-based Opel GT, right?
>>
>>13849492
nope, but i do remember an opel version existing.

They never released a holden one though, an old friend has a Vauxhall badged one in black, kinda cool, quite blocky which was uncommon in its day.

Almost positive that the GXP/Redline come with it standard. I know for sure it was a option on the base model. Check the RPO code list in the glove box for G80. That is the code for LSD.

how well does it do when you go to the store and have to take stuff home? cargo space basically
>>
>>13850798
kek
look here >>13849039

How well do you think it does. If you aren't a fat piece of shit and don't need to buy half the store its fine. If you are the size of an average American though you won't be able to fit all the groceries in the trunk, but also you wouldn't be able to fit your fatass in the driver seat either. Basically what I'm saying is I knew the size of the truck when I bought the car, and I have never had a problem with it. If the size storage space is gona determine if you buy a sports car or not, then you need to leave.
>>
>>13850839
can I at least fit a 12 pack of cans with the top down, thats really all I ever buy
>>
>>13850845
Yes, the passenger seat. It's not like there's going to be anyone sitting there.
>>

>>
>>13850951
Don't get a a first 1000 or any 06 model for that matter. There was quite a few things changed and/or updated for the 07 model year. The first ones had a couple of known problems. Also no turbo model offered in 06.
>>
>>13851002

Is the gearing as bad as everyone says?
Is it biased towards understeer or is it fairly easy to get the tail end to slide?
>>
>>13848520
>typical GM build quality
>get a Z3/Z4 instead

Listen to this guy. Forget the Solstice/Skyy with the reliable drivetrain. Buy the BMW with the self detonating cooling system. At least you know with the BMW your doors will sound smooth as butter when you close them.
>>
>>13851086
The gearing is fine with me. I just wish 5th was little taller. The real problem with the transmission is it isn't really smooth. They sourced the 5 speed trans from the Chevy Colorado and you can tell.

All production cars are biased toward understeer. You won't notice it on the street though. I can swing the end out (mainly with power over but also lift off) pretty easily, but I'm sure it would be harder to do with the base model. You will notice the understeer on the autocross coarse though. The car will plow right through those really tight corners. But there are sway bar upgrades and frame bracing to make the handling better than it already is.
>>
>>13851242
Do things break often? And when they do do you fix them yourself? Does the engine bay make it easy to do stuff like timing belt replacements?
>>
>>13849570
>based on the lotus europa
*Lotus Elise
>>
>>13851343
The Ecotec engines have no timing belt. They have a timing chain that doesn't need changing for 300,000 miles minimum.
Engine bay is pretty easy to get to shit. This is a non-turbo Solstice's bay

The Ecotec engines are very reliable. I have had to replace a couple of thing though. I do all the work on the car, and engine bay ease of access was one of the things I was looking for when I was deciding on my next car. The front facing hood makes it easy to access the engine from either side. Also the Ecotec engines have a "lifetime" timing chain.

Thanks, regular store bought ramps would scrap the front bumper and I dont want to use a jack and jackstands very often because they just pokes holes in the asphalt that is in serious need of repaving. Here is a link.
